This game has a lot of potential but the ghost sounds and the rest of the ambient sound effects are not that great for this setting, they should cut those and leave just the sound of the water and boat, it will be more terrifying than how it is now. Also, it would be great to have more Nessie interactions, not just the time when it attacks you and you die, if they make her pop up to the surface from time to time, or make her swim close to the surface and eventually under your boat, it will be more scary :D

@@jonathanpilcher337 I don't know, could be yeah but I didn't see Nessie + the boat movement is weird, like at some point he tried to turn left or right and it looked like the boat was turning upside down almost. I get it it's in early access and it can be improved, I like the idea of the game a lot and I'm curious to see what the devs will do in the future.

I feel like the ambience was really heavy handed. Kept feeling like the game designers tried to communicate something to the player, but it was always just noise that didn't mean anything. As for the gameplay, it looks interesting, but this player seemed to have problems grasping some core concepts. Like sitting still, patiently waiting. And that inventory system looks awful.

I’m from Glasgow in Scotland, my gran would take me on holiday to Loch Ness every year for a few days. I spent soooo long staring over the loch trying to see if I could spot her, but never have but lots of memories of Loch Ness with my now passed gran. I can confirm the loch does look this cold and Misty a lot 😂

I have Scottish blood dating to the Lords of Lanarkenshire. Loch Ness and its mystery has always fascinated me. Is there a general consensus by the people Scotland that something is in there? If so what do most think it is???

@@battlecross8540 Recent studies suggest that Nessie isn't a prehistoric reptile or sea monster. In the studies they took DNA samples in various areas of the loch, none of which came up with any unidentified DNA. However, there is an extraordinary amount of eel DNA within the loch. Its now suspected that Nessie could have been different individuals [giant eels] breaching the surface of the lake. It's underwhelming, but at least Nessie is technically real and it wasn't just hoaxes. But then again, we know the folklore, she's great at playing hide-and-seek.

@@battlecross8540 it’s more something to tell kids and get them excited about really. It’s like a tourist thing even shops in my city, Glasgow, sell Nessie stuff for when people come on holiday. When you go to the loch there’s a lot of stuff like boat rides and tours you can do plus a lot of the restaurants and bars use it as theming. I always found it fun to go with my gran and have a picnic and look over the loch to see if you could spot something just for fun but it’s a huge boost to the area around :)

I'm just really confused at the logic in it all though. "Let's go look for this potentially giant creature in the most unstable and smallest craft that can still legally be considered a boat." Is ultimate extreme difficulty going to be a plastic bin and you're basically "Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy" but on a lake and you're getting Nessie'd? Not like that.

I know the whole point of the game is to freak you out while rowing the boat, with the danger of capsizing, but they should allow you to upgrade your vessel to an outrigger canoe, or later on, a submersible vehicle to explore the bottom of the lake or any hidden caves and tunnels.

the point is to be vulnerable in a rickety little boat. You start adding submarines and it really takes away from the experience and what the game is trying to accomplish.

@@tomatodamashi of course. But look at what Icy and IGP went through at the beginning. They don't look like they're having any fun fighting the controls. I know the game has a lot of bugs to work out and all that and I will eventually play it myself. I was thinking more of a rewards upgrade system, so the more money you make with sightings, you can eventually upgrade to better gear and then better exploration. Just an idea for the devs.

Out of all of the games in the finding Bigfoot style I didn’t expect a Loch Ness one but I suppose it was inevitable. Kinda want one for Mokele-mbembe since it would combine hunting both in water and land (unless this game already does that I’m typing this only 30 seconds into the video)

I mean mokele mbembe is technically the same as the loch ness monster since both have been known to go on land and in water so their the same creature in a way except different countries tho watching this gave me very bad anxiety since its the water and I hate the water where you can't see the bottom and it doesn't help that this actually contains a monster in it so Ik that the water isn't empty it makes my Thalassophobia go crazy and the fear of being watched when in the water like something big is coming that's another so this video was my nightmares in a nutshell

An idea for a Mokele-mbembe game could be one of the objectives be finding the eggs of the creature- that way a certain research lab could research the dinosaur babies and their genes. Basically, Cryptid Hunters but more genetic research and less Nazi-clone Zoo Owner.

Funny you mention the lake to be haunted. There was a dude named Aleister Crowley who had a house there. Apparently he was into witchcraft and opened a portal that he never closed. That’s when Nessy sightings started to happen and all sorts of weird shit. 👁 🕳 🐇

If the physics are realistic, every time you send out a sonar ping it may be able to locate you as well. You should also consider the fact of a possible echolocation mechanic.

Echolocation would be cool, except that there have been no reports of Nessie being able to echolocate. Now if the game takes my idea with adding more maps based on other similar lake monsters (like what Bigfoot did with the Yeti), then there we go. Lake Champlain's Champ has in fact been recorded echolocating. :D

I guess that would explain the ghost ambiance, though again, not a big fan of it. There are no reported encounters of people being attacked let alone killed by Nessie, not since St. Columba's sighting in 565. Takes away from the realism of the game in that regard, but hey. A bit of creative license can't hurt. :)

The reason you can't travel forward is both the boat design and where character is sitting, its due to one side is pointing and the other is flat, and the reason for the character sitting away the direction of forwards is that its easier to paddle and allows you to put more muscle to pull against the waters then using your back to push the paddles

Not gonna lie, I love the realism with the boat. It's been a while since I was out rowing, but I did it a lot as a teenager to early 20s. From my experience, while you can row "forwards" the way you're looking, it's not as efficient. Normal rowing uses the back muscles, bisceps and shoulders, you become less fatigued, and travel further with each stroke as more energy gets transfered from you to the oars. Forewards rowing leaves one heck of an ache afterwards. I'm not well versed in muscles, but I guess that since it becomes pushing instead of pulling, you put more strain on thr muscles, and can't get as much out of it. Sorry for the mini essay, I'll go back to my hole until the next video 🤣

There actually are licensed Nessie investigators who dedicate their entire life to searching for Nessie. Between 1962 and '72 there was a foundation called "the Loch Ness Phenomena Investigation Bureau."

Well you wouldnt want to row against the flat back of the boat, thats for sure. Also you sit with your back to the direction you are rowing, because of the muscles groups used to row. It is SOO hard to row facing forward, for any length of time. Id like this more in VR, it would be a lot more easy to control the boat in VR than it is with some buttons. lol

This was really cool, and I think it has a ton of potential! The rowing backwards and not being able to really see where you're going, or what you might bump into is honestly one of the most terrifying aspects! Storms make it difficult to collect audio, and fog makes it difficult to rely on visual. I also like the spooky (event?) of the skeleton in a boat floating past you in the fog and bodies in the lake. I'd love to see more "events" like that, but I know they're not the main focus of the game so I understand if they don't. I really hope the dev/s continue to work on this and really make it shine!

The Lochness monster I always believed was in our oceans as well as many other huge monstrosities that live in our ocean which I would love to explore and find out.

I love how just the mere presence of the monster has some sort of supernatural influence. Bigfoot causes flashlights to flicker, Wendigo creates a carnival and Nessie apparently causes a skeleton ferryman of the River Styx to manifest along with dead bodies. This game has a lot of potential as well as bugs. The boat capsizing for no reason is one. Icy cursing everything is another. I can't wait to see how much they will patch up in the future

The game is TERRIBLE; bugs in the menus, bugs in the game, controls will randomly stop working, you can't pick up items you're directly looking at, the oars will disappear from the boat (so you can no longer row it), you'll be randomly flung/teleported across the map and appear underwater... Absolutely not worth its current price, even on early access. In a 48 minute session with three friends, at no single point did the game function properly for all of us all at the same time.

I like the concept but honestly the scariest thing about it was those boat controls. I hope they keep working on it and give you the ability to look around since that camera restriction of not being able to look where you're heading really limits the effectiveness of the spooks. Half the time it seemed like potentially interesting things were happening but by the time you were able to get the boat turned so you could see it there was nothing there or worse you were getting hunted/attacked or whatever and couldn't tell what was happening. Cool idea, needs a mountain of work.

I feel like they should just make you face forward, if they really wanna keep the stronger backwards positioning that also happens to make the situation scarier then you should be able to just look behind you

I think quite the opposite actually, the whole idea that you can’t see behind you makes it possible for Nessie to sneak up on you, and when something crazy starts happening you panic and try to turn your boat around to see, but it all stops as soon as it started.

21:30 You are facing the rear of the boat, and going backward from your perspective, meaning you are going forward relative to the boat, not the direction you are facing. The icon on your map is depicting the boat direction, not your character... kinda strange setup honestly. It would be much easier just to orient the player facing forward, with the option to row clockwise or counterclockwise to change direction.

Loch Ness monster is my greatest fear. I used to have recurring dreams where I'm lost at sea in a raging storm and it was there hunting me screaming and roaring. It was angry and there's was nothing I could do. The nightmares never stop no matter how many times awoke in terror. They ended only when I was eaten. And then restart the process over the next night. This was back in 2012-2013 my ninth grade year.

I had a recurring nightmare similar to that during the same timeframe.I would be standing on a lakeside dock, when suddenly the board I was standing on would break and I’d fall into the murky water. Since I can’t swim in real life, I would desperately be trying to reach the surface, only for the Loch Ness Monster to ambush me from below and my frantic doggy paddle only resulted in me getting eaten. Then I’d wake up.

The ironic thing is, my first roller coaster was Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg (my home state theme park) at age 6. I loved it to pieces, and still do.

Bruh most of the steam reviews are negative, legit this game came out a bit ago and people are shitting on it All imma say is you can't expect a game that just came out to be fully polished and perfect so you have to give the developers time to fix things that are wrong with the game, don't say crap like "Garbage game!" Or "I'm glad I got a refund!", Since devs look for feedback so actual positive feedback would definitely Anyways great video man, keep up the fantastic work!

Many gamers are children, even the adult ones, so I tend to ignore steam reviews and concentrate on the metascore. Or look for gameplay on RU-vid if the game is in alpha and doesn't have a metascore yet.

I think him nearly flipping the boat in that water knowing what could lurk in that water scared me more than anything else. As someone who dislikes deep water and has a fear of it when it is murky enough so you can't see below you when it's 100+ feet deep, this was very anxiety inducing.

I hate how unrealistic two things in this game are. 1) There should NOT be this much marine/fish life since Lock Ness is known for being freezing cold and having pretty much no plants. 2) The underwater sound detector doesn’t make any since whatsoever because it needs to actually be IN the water to work. Hence the name UNDERWATER. Sound waves pretty much can’t be detected by anything from above the water if it’s coming from below the surface. That thing physically should not work. This goes for the underwater sonar as well.

Dont understand why they had to go with a whole "Loch Ness is haunted by a ghost Plesiosaur" aesthetic, its a little jarring. Ive been to Ness, incredibly beautiful but yeah I probably wouldnt want to go out on it at night in a rowboat and I dont even believe in Nessie.

This game has a lot of potential, but I think they should cut the ghost and scary sounds, it makes him less scary, just make it more water and boat as just having normal sounds and seemingly nothing going on while you know a underwater monster is lurking to get you yet you can’t see it is way scarier, it adds more mystery and tension and overall makes it more scarier when the Loch Ness attacks
