This week, I'm continuing to work on my 1888 Daisy Fancy Dress costume from the fashion magazine, Der Bazar. In this video, I will be drafting and adding sleeves, making the cotton voile overskirt, and making a bazillion (or so it seemed) daisies out of cotton organdy.

It’s deceptively labour intensive dress. I’m amazed at how much you got done even if you were hoping for more getting done (isn’t it always the case we want more done than what we actually get done? Lol)

Oh, the daisies are perfection! I have learned so much about applique from you. I think I may be ready to start my Disneybounding idea for The Ugly Dachshund. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Hi,I'm glad you're planing to be able to remove the flowers and wear the dress again,it always seems sad that you make such pretty dresses and you can only wear it so little
@LadyRebeccaFashions
@LadyRebeccaFashions 3 года назад
So it turns out that the flowers would take a lot of work to remove. Luckily, cotton voile is pretty inexpensive, and the skirt itself was very easy to make, so if I need another one, I'll just remake the base skirt.

Am I really the only person commenting on this video? Hmm. I have been watching all of the #historicalhalloween2020 videos with envy, I must say. I'll get there eventually, but work has just taken up a lot of time, and I'm in the midst of writing up a piece of research that spans about 7-8 years of fieldwork, so, a lot of work. I haven't made myself a halloween costume in literally years, I used to make the boys a few for school parade and trick or treating, but boys often have simpler costuming needs, e.g. overcoats and scary masks. I have the simplicities Dalek/Tardis costume in my stash, which one day I am going to make, though it would be fun to make them 'historically accurate' since they are already crinoline and corset style dresses. I guess that would be circa 1860s. I am really impressed by the daisy production. I quilt as well, and all of that stuff really is time consuming. It takes me about a year from start to finish to make a quilt, just because of my free time, but also because you really have to work carefully when patchworking. Or I do , anyway. Fingers crossed you are finished in time!

I totally respect quilters - that really is a ton of work! Good luck with all your researching -- that sounds intense, and I hope you're able to have more time for sewing in the future!

this reminds me of a time I fussy-cut 30 twigs with three leaves each for a handmade card swap... now there's often dies that will cut a co-ordinating image in stamp sets, and I didn't mind fussy cutting at the time - I guess it was like hand sewing and then along came the sewing machine. And I find myself thinking "I'd be die-cutting those circles" but they are the least of the process LOL, though maybe with the folding it might fit in some sort of narrow oval die... anyway, if you know any papercrafters and you have another monotonous multitude of things to cut for a future costume maybe check if they had a die cutting machine & die that might do the job for you. Anyway, it's coming along nicely, hope the crunch to get it done in time isn't too stressful!

Yeah, every so often, I feel like it would be nice to have a cricut or something like that. And thanks!

I love, love, love, love your Daisy Dress!!!!! I would love to make one myself if it wouldn't give offense. You are awesome! Did I mention that I love this dress? 😍 Love to hear you talk yourself through the process. I used to think that you should know every step of the process before you could even start a project. You have taught me that you can problem solve as you go, and that gave me courage! Sending lovely sewing vibes your way 🌻

You are more than welcome to make one! (And I'd love to see it if/when you do!) And oh my gosh, if I had to know every step, I would literally never be able to make anything.

Great idea to make the Daisy's removable. You've done so much work on this dress, it would be a shame not to get the use out of it. A perfect dress for lounging around the house 😊😊😊
@LadyRebeccaFashions

It turns out they're going to be way too hard to remove. But the skirt was easy and fairly inexpensive to make, so I can always make another one if I need to.

@@LadyRebeccaFashions So true. I sew kids costumes, and sometimes its just easier to re-make something rather than undo or modify a garment. I had a princess dress returned with a huge grease stain on the bodice, and I was just going to replace that, and re-use the skirt and sleeves, but by the time I unpicked and repaired everything (I overlock all my seams for durability) , it would have been easier just to sew a completely new dress. With kids costumes, the fabric cost is fairly small.

I am appreciating those nails. Could I ask you, if possible, for a picture of the fabric from the extant fabric of the polka dot with lily of the valleys on it from your last video? I am going to have that fabric printed.
