It's okay to cry, Amber. This song is here to remind you that family is forever. Pull your children and your husband CLOSE, and thank the stars for the gifts you've been given. My Rob Squad Family is everything to me. Thank you BOTH eternally, for the joy you've brought to so many of us.
So true Simon. Sure, we listen to Classic Rock on the radio but now we have the pleasure of seeing folks react to our music the same way we did. A good song will always be a good song. Hearing it today for the first time or 50 years ago for the first time doesn't matter. We loved those songs for a reason. Talented musicians and singers made these tunes and to not pass them down to younger generations would be quite a loss. The way I see it, maybe somebody will be inspired by these tunes.
This song is one of their earlier hits along with "house on pooh corner" "your mama don't dance" and " watching the river run". All great examples of the folk rock era.
Kenny Loggins has had a great solo career. Jim Messina has also had quite a career. He was with Buffalo Springfield and Poco. How lucky we were back then. Both are still playing and performing. I hope they go on playing for many more years. Another great song by them is _your mama don't dance_ .
In 1978 I was a senior in college struggling to graduate. One Saturday afternoon I fell asleep unplanned. I awoke in a state of sleep paralysis, I could not move but could hear Danny's song on the radio. The message in the lyrics caused me to re-evaluate my life and want the life suggested in the song. I've been married for 43 years have 3 kids and 5 grandchildren thanks in part to this song! Thanks, Kenny for writing one of the greatest songs ever!
Loved your reaction guys. You guys are the sweetest most real and beautiful hearted people out there. I was born in 1955 and love that you love the music I grew up on. Those days had the best music EVER!!! Boomer music ROCKS!!!! Thx for the love!!! God Bless You!!!
Yes. It was so sweet to see Amber's reaction. Thanks, you guys, for just being so genuine and honest. I love watching your reactions. I had that album when it came out and my wife and I (we were so young and broke) loved that song. You just helped me relive it.
"... and if you find she helps your mind, better take her home - don't you live alone - try to earn what lovers own". My favorite line in this amazing song.
Kenny Loggins wrote "House on Pooh Corner" when he was a 17 year old student & later recorded it with Messina in the early 1970's. Then in the 1990's, as a father, he added a final verse to the song, now called "Return to Pooh Corner" and rerecorded the new version with Amy Grant (she is mainly a gospel artist whose husband is Vince Gill) as a duet. Please pick "Return to Pooh Corner" as your next Kenny Loggins song & be prepared for some misty eyes.
I have always loved this song. It reminds me so much about my wife and starting a family. Watching your reaction is the first time I have heard it since my wife passed and it rings so much differently than before. Love your family and rejoice in your lives with them. They are THE ONLY thing that matters.
It makes me lament the end of my decades long marriage. Although things weren’t so great at the end. It reminds me of us in our early 20s living on our own. We struggled paycheck to paycheck. But in that moment it didn’t feel so dire because we had each other.
Amber...I was teary eyed along with you. Absolutely beautiful song. This brought me way back. My first true love and I. This was OUR song. I learned it on acoustic guitar and I would play it for her often. Thank you for making this old dude cry!! Peace and love to all.
Kenny wrote this song for his brother and his brother's wife. If you get a chance listen to Anne Murray's version of this song. She does an amazing job. She has a beautiful voice and has a lot of great songs of her own. Definitely worth checking out.
My girlfriend and me were on our was back to our little l bedroom apartment in Shelby NC from Hickory NC in my old pickup truck loaded with a couch and 2 little tables in 1975. This song came on the radio and when I looked over at her I saw tears on her cheeks when they sang the part about not having money but I'm so in love with you honey. I didn't say anything but two months later I asked her to marry me. I lost her to bone cancer 4 years ago but I have a daughter, two sons and 7 grandchildren to keep me company until I'm reunited with her one day. I love you babe,.
My dad used to sing this song to my mom on guitar when she was pregnant with my older brother. He passed away almost five years ago now and this song still brings a tear of joy to my eyes.
I love this song. The Canadian singer Anne Murray did a cover of this song about a year after this originally came out (1971-72ish) that actually made the charts in the US and was a frequent play on AM "Top 40" radio (KJR Seattle Channel 95, LOL🤣🤣☮️). That rendition makes a few relatively minor changes and dropped one of the verses, but is still worth a listen. Especially since you've just heard the original. I think you'd like "Your Mama Don't Dance" by Loggins & Messina. You'll likely laugh at the premise since you're raising your kids like we did ours, with Rock & Roll as an integral part of everyday life. Thak you so much for many smiles you have brougght to my face over this past year so since I've been subscribing to your channels. It's really been a great experience to follow your journey into this iconic music. LL&P🖖 Peace☮️😎
Anne Murray deserves to be on their "listen to" list even if they don't check out her version of Danny's Song. U.S. Country music fans crazy for her in the early 70's. "Snowbird" was her first hit
Loggins and Messina was considered a folk rock duo of the early 1970’s and had such wonderful songs such as this one, House at Pooh Corner, Watching the River Run and Your Mama Don’t Dance. When Kenny Loggins went solo in 1976. That’s when he went more towards a pop rock sound.
Yes, when Kenny did those "rocking" songs in the 1980s, we kind of thought he was faking it, since he'd been so successful in the softer mode when playing with Jim. (This was probably unfair, since there's no reason he can't be versatile. But it's not only the current "playlist" generation that tends to shove artists into a particular slot.)
The looks exchanged between these two whilst this song played melted my heart. You can tell they felt every word of this song. I have never felt more alone. lol No. In all serious, I hope for the continued success for these two spectacular individuals:)
This arrangement as well as Anne Murray's cover are magical. For another one by Kenny Loggins that you can sing to your children try "Return to Pooh Corner".
As young parents, I figured you would both relate to this song - "People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one... think I'm gonna have a son." Cheers to you both and your fabulous family.
"Footloose" is obviously a really famous KL song, but I also love "Meet Me Half Way". Plus, he co-wrote "What a Fool Believes" for The Doobie Brothers, which is, in my opinion, one of the greatest songs ever. Just such an upbeat melody with lyrics it took me years to realise were so sad.
@@TheDivayenta It is. My heart will always vote for the original over anything else, but to be there in those surroundings with that performance must have been magical.
I met Danny Loggins (for whom this song is written) and his wife 3 years ago when they were selling their condo and I was hired to photograph it for the listing. They were incredibly nice and invited me to stay for tea at the end of the job. We had a nice chat about music. Funny thing, I was told his name before I got there, but I didn't realize he was THE Danny Loggins. When he asked my name, I almost said "Ken, as in Kenny Loggins".
Jim Messina was in the buffalo springfield He was asked to produce the first Kenny Loggins album They began to write and record together and became a group
"Celebrate Me Home" is another beautiful song of his that makes me very emotional. I listened to it a lot during this past Christmas. My grandmother passed away on December 19, 2022, and that song brought me comfort because my grandmother loved it, and I felt that she was going home to all the other family we'd lost, including my mom. ♥️
Oh that is a great one! I get a bit emotional when I hear it during the holidays, makes me think about my grandparents and my mother. Jay and Amber need to react to that one soon!
Don’t compare eras, talent is intergenerational. This era also had Nicolette Larsen, Air Supply, England Dan, Anne Murray and a lot of other unexceptional and forgettable talent. Ever listened to Billie Eilish?
But I think the original studio version of "house" with it's incredible percussion is the BOMB...listen to that one before you do the live version with the additional verse after the original...
The one line always makes me and my wife smile. “Pisces - Virgo rising is a very good sign, strong and kind”. My wife and I met in college when we were both 18 and married at 21 years old. We’re both 64 years old now! She is a Pisces and I’m a Virgo 😉 Love this song!
Kenny Loggins put our an album in 1994 called "Return to Pooh Corner" and it was a collection of 10 child-friendly songs. Very gentle and peaceful. My daughter loved it when she was young.
When I was growing up in the 70’s Kenny Loggins & Jim Messina were known as the super duo Loggins & Messina in the mid-1970’s. They were played on FM radio in heavy rotation, had many many hit songs. This duo broke up in 1976. Loggins became the most successful member. The rest is music history. . Rob and Amber, explore more of their music. “ House of Pooh Corner” & “You’re Mama Don’t Dance” “Angry Eyes”. ❤❤ Great songs.
Danny’s song is a favourite and Anne Murray did a beautiful rendition of this song as well. You also need to listen to House at Pooh Corner performed just by Kenny. A tear jerker every time for me.
Danny's Song is an absolutely beautiful song. If it doesn't get your eyes a little misty, there might be something wrong with your heart. Great reaction!
IMO, Kenny's best work was done with Jim Messina. Anything off the Full Sail album is reaction worthy. It is one of my all time favorites albums. I think you'll love it.
He has three albums for kids now: Return to Pooh Corner More Songs From Pooh Corner All Join In (on which he sings the Beatles tune, Two of Us, with Jim Messina).
Jim Messina took a young Loggins under his wing to help him develop his art. They became quite popular. They were the number one duo in pop music until they were dethroned by Hall and Oates. Their style was pretty folksy. Two of their biggest hits was "Your Mamma Don't Dance" and "House on Pooh Corner." Pick one of those for your next from this duo.
One of the things I've noticed in the past couple months is y'all have a vastly increased appreciation for the complexity and beauty of layered instruments and voices in music production. I've noticed especially how Amber is picking up on good drumming and how it is foundational for good music. Amber seriously, do yourself a favor and watch "Sina-drums - Highway Star" it has nearly 9 million views. I think you'll gain and even stronger appreciation for talented drumming.
I always loved this one. We kids would all sing along and I'd think about how that's the way I would want things to be in life. Another one like that is Seals and Croft "Summer Breeze". Kenny Loggins also has a great duet with Stevie Nicks "Whenever I Call You Friend" which was a big hit. Of course life always seems complicated when you're living it, but what I would not trade for the simple times I lived back then.
Ive been dealing with a horrible divorce (involving a child) for 12 years. It involved a gun today...long story...but at the very beginning of the crapshow about 11-12 years ago, I was left homeless after a very bad divorce. I was reduced to living illegally in somebody's attic and working in "fast food" for a little while. The restaurant piped in classic rock and the walls were COVERED in class rock memorabilia. It was a great atmosphere. One day, I was deep in my thoughts and missing my child at work and this song came on. I had been keeping a brave face through those hard times, but the lyrics of the song were too much in that moment...and I started crying. Not sobbing, but tears rolling down my face uncontrollably. I continued to take orders while customers looked at me like I was losing my mind. It wasnt "my darkest day", but definitely a bad time I think of often. This song is amazing...it's timeless...and it's good to be on "the right side" of it when you hear it.
So sorry to hear about your terrible experience! My mum had to make a decision to leave my dad who was an alcoholic! My brother was almost fifteen and I was twelve! It was a long time ago! She was in her forties and the only job she could get was in a factory! It wasn’t easy! I hope things are better for you now! Peace and Blessings to you and your family from Australia.
@@wendyryder2708 Thank you for your kind words and your story. Your mother sounds like a true blessing. Ive seen God make a miracle in the blink of an eye, but Ive also seen imperfect parents perform them over decades...doing their part to make them happen every day. There's no worthier pursuit, in my opinion. My life is definitely better now...even if my load isnt lighter, my shoulders are stronger. Sending love to you and yours from Montana. Here's hoping that we always remember those struggles with a smile and some accrued wisdom....and let's hope music still continues to remind us.
2:01 mark, that look Jay gives Amber.... MY MAN!!! That is a king looking at his queen, the mother of his children, his life partner. Tell me you didn't feel that moment? and poor Amber didn't even see it. This was so awesome.
"Danny's Song" is another song that has been a favorite of mine since childhood. I love this tune, and your reaction brought a little extra joy with this listen. Thank you. God bless.
I’m not sure if you’ve heard “footloose “ yet from the movie footloose that’s upbeat but if you want another one similar to this that’s just so super sweet try “return to Pooh corner”
Logging and Massina did a song called the "House At Pooh Corner" and in 1994 Kenny Loggins released an album entitled "The Return To Pooh Corner" the song involves the characters of Winnie The Pooh, but the meaning is about growing up and losing your child like innocents. There are many great songs on the album such as "All The Pretty Little Ponies", which includes David Crosby and an excellent version of "Rainbow Connection" by Kenny Loggins.
I adore Kenny Loggins. Saw him in concert on the lake in Austin in 1987. One of my favorite concerts, ever. His bus was late and Joe Ely stepped in and kept us entertained until he arrived. Never got to see Loggins & Messina, but had their records.
One of my long-loved Loggins and Messina songs is "Watching the River Run". It's about life and friendship/companionship. Highly recommend it. There is a Kenny Loggins and Stevie Nicks duet called "Whenever I Call You "Friend"" that you should be aware of.
“Even though we ain’t got money , I’m so in love with you honey” was an all time top song line.”House at Poo corner” ( original version) is a great one of theirs from this Dara.
Another beautiful Loggins & Messina song, that would be wonderful to react to (maybe even with Luca joining in) is 'House At Pooh Corner'. It's all about the world of Winnie the Pooh, and if you're not familiar with that series of books, I'd highly recommend them for their gentle lessons on what it means to be a loving, kind and caring friend, through characters who are very different in personality and attitude but who all value individual acts of loving kindness and also community.
Loggins and Messina was a favorite group of mine in my 20s. Messina brought more instrumentation to the group, while Loggins brought lyrics, catchy songs and that voice. They fit together well. If you want to hear more Messina in the mix, try their song, Angry Eyes.
House at Pooh Corner is another sweet song which Kenny wrote when he was 17. He tells a great story in concert about how that song was okayed to be recorded. Forever and Celebrate Me Home are beautiful ballads. In concert he does a fab call and response with the saxophone on Celebrate me home. I’m excited to be seeing Loggins solo x2 in June and Loggins & Messina at the Hollywood Bowl in July!
I cried too. I would hear those exact words from my husband 40yrs ago. My first year without him but that song is just as sweet. Thanks for playing it!
These guys were a great duo. Check out "Your Mama Don't Dance", Angry Eyes", and "Pooh Corner" among others. Also, check out Poco "Call it Love", "Heart of the Night", "Crazy Love".
