The G12-65 was originally designed and built in the late 1970s, there are lots of variations (not all of them were guitar speakers), but the most popular was T3053/4 (8 and 15 ohm), which were introduced in 1978 and were around for five or six years until the launch of the G12T-75. After the successful introduction of the Heritage Series (2005), we looked for the next obvious model to re-visit and settled on T3053/4, which eventually saw the light of day in 2007. The Creambacks were a different mission entirely: they were developed when we decided we wanted to make the "definitive" high-power greenback. Greenback flavoured tone with more power handling capability. As a result, the G12M-65 and G12H-75 Creambacks were introduced in 2013. As a side note, The original G12M (aka Greenback) was also built with different coloured cans at various points in the 1970s, including, for a short period, a cream coloured can. The contemporary Creambacks are a nod to that aesthetic, but are not and were never meant to be a recreation of those 1970s G12Ms. Hope that helps!

Great work thank you guys! This video confirmed that I made a good decision for my tastes getting a G12M greenback for my Mesa Boogie combo. It has enough top end and bottom end for beautiful clean tones without aggressive highs cutting your head off on high gain tones the way a Jensen speaker will, while not letting the Boogie low end get too thick. It’s got a vintage-style brightness and aggression that sits really nicely in a mix and is classy in so many genres.

I've gotta say that's next level lettering.. I complained I couldn't see your doctors scribble.. You actually took heed or it's a happy coincidence. Thanks very much. Now .. How much are your magical little speaker cabinets?

So a full rundown of the G12-65: it's medium magnet speaker the same as the other two (extra confusingly), originally made between roughly 1978-1983 when Celestion omitted the magnet size from the speaker names. The G12-80 (proto classic-lead) was the heavy magnet version with all the same moving parts. The difference between the three is the voice coil former material: Greenbacks have the old school paper former, G12-65s have a fibreglass former, and I have no idea what the new Creambacks have, could be Nomex like the V30 but nobody seems to know for sure. The T-75 was what replaced the G12-65 in the 80s Marshall cabs, and they're a very close re-work of the G12-65 with a kapton voice coil former, and the T magnet is the same weight as the M magnet so not sure what the difference is there (the late K magnet was also the same weight as the H magnet, so there was probably a similar thing going on with the G12-80 and K-85/K-100: K-100s also had a kapton vc former). As far as what the G12-65 is best suited to, it gets claimed by both blues players and heavy heavy players - there are a whole list of famous Dumble users who picked G12-65s to go with, probably out of how smooth they are, but being the stock Marshall speaker for a time they were also popular with classic metal and early thrash players, and obviously their most well-known use was on the Back in Black album. I find because they have such smooth mids and treble, they respond really well to cranking the treble from the amp for bright high gain stuff, especially with EL-34 amps that tend to be a bit less tight on their own. They don't have a reputation for being versatile speakers, which I think is incredible given their history with such a broad set of uses - if I had to pick one speaker to do everything, I imagine it'd be a G12-65.

We’re not a Brexit success story. We sell proportionately less to the EU than we did before Brexit, even though for items this expensive that are UK made the cost difference is close to nil - but psychologically Brexit has put up barriers between us and all our potential customers in Europe. And all the VAT that we used to pay to HMRC on EU sales now instead gets charged at the EU end and goes to their governments instead of ours - must be over £100k of tax that would have gone to fund the NHS etc but is instead being split between France, Germany, etc where our EU customers are. We are yet another business that has been damaged by Brexit whilst also damaging our country’s finances.

@@BarefacedAudio I'm sorry you don't support it, hopefully things will evolve into a healthier relationship, situation.. I saw it as a rare moment of democracy.. The tories haven't seized the opportunities ..Mutually beneficial Trade partnerships with Africa.. For example.. Anyway it was so divisive.. So was covid.. If democracy was to be seized... A vote before going into war with Russia... Britain is not getting any LESS angry .... I used to enjoy the discussions back when so many subjects weren't taboo.!! Great products you made.. When wew you setting it all up.? Best wishes

@@gushutchinson8758 sadly there were very few economic opportunities that could be seized - successful two-way trade requires similar economies and benefits from shorter distances, as well as aligned product standards and minimal red tape. We had that when we were in the EU and there was never going to be anything that could replace it. Maybe one day African countries will have the buying power to form valuable export markets for the UK but probably not in my lifetime. It’s been very sad seeing my country divided by this and the lives of younger people disadvantaged through a weakened economy and restrictions on living and working elsewhere in Europe, especially as we now have a whole swathe of 18-26 year old adults who didn’t get a say in the referendum. The most frustrating statistic is that since the referendum, over 4 million older voters have died (who voted 2:1 leave:remain) and over 5 million younger voters have reached 18 (and almost 90% would vote remain), so if the referendum was run today, and no past voters changed their mind, the result would be about 60:40 in favour of remain. I’m not sure that we can thus call the vote a great example of democracy! I’m just thankful that Barefaced was able to survive, as in this building alone we have seen a number of previously successful businesses shut down due to the increased costs and decreased revenue post-Brexit.

I’m sure the cabs are second to none, but are these speakers brand new or run in? Also, sorry to say it but your Rat distortion is awful. If you are going to do distortion please use a decent Marshall valve distortion for us AC/DC/, EVH, Satriani etc rock fans…… a Rat won’t sell your speakers!!
@BarefacedAudio
@BarefacedAudio 2 месяца назад
A bit of both, you should still be getting a clear representation of the differences in tone from each speaker regardless! And the Rat certainly needs dialling in - the PackRat has so many presets and can sound incredible on, for example, the LA preset with a specific guitar and driver (especially in the room) but admit when listening back it can be a bit harsh and "digital" when using say the Reverend Tele and the Greenback. We aren't giving up on it though!
