I watched an episode of the "Outer Limits" when I was 12 & it was all about huge killer tumbleweeds. Sacred me & did I have nightmares, but I couldn't tell my mom because we were not allowed to watch that show. I'm 73 now, funny how a memory from 60 years ago comes flying back. Stay away from the tumbleweeds!! 😄😄😄 ☮💜🎶
Thanks for coming back and clearing things up. Nothing is ever easy as we age. Our parts are no longer under warranty. Hope your surgery goes smoothly.
Yes both my step mother and brother in law had a detached retina. They had to stay face down. You do get to get up with short breaks. Tumbleweeds yes! I’m from the Texas Panhandle but a year ago last November I moved to New Mexico! I prefer the mountains to tumbleweeds and dirt! Lived 61 years in Texas! 😁👋🏼💞
Been watching you years Carolyn! Love your content, got a mini education on macular degeneration which my daddy had. Luv your energy and you look marvelous. GO Girl!❤
I had the vitrectomy surgery about 18 months ago. Saline with easy recovery, although i was told not to take any flights for a while. I had lived with PVD and floaters for several years, not wanting to do surgery. The floaters had mostly subsided on their own, but my affected eye saw things about 15-20 percent larger and closer than the other eye. I was hoping vitrectomy would resolve that. It really didn't. It changed the aspect ratio such that horizontal distortion is unchanged while the vertical is reduced. Horizontal lines can look a little wavy. I find myself reading or working at the computer with the affected eye held shut, but distance is no problem -- the brain resolves the difference. That's my experience, so don't take it as yours. I have other distortions in the shape of my retina. Your surgery should take care of the floater problem just fine. You should expect to need cataract surgery afterward. Vitrectomy accerates their formation. I already had one slowly forming at the time of the vitrectomy, but six months later I had to have the cataract removed because I couldn't read road signs. I'm still amazed they're able to do such things inside the eye. Hoping your surgery is easy and your recovery quick.
I grew up in the Mojave Desert. The tumble weeds were huge! I remember them rolling across the yard when the winds were high! I also remember making forts out of the dead dry ones. 😂 The desert was a fun place to grow up! ❤
Wow Carolyn! I really hope you don't end up face down for two weeks. Praying it's saline. That's a big tumbleweed, as big as a Volkswagen. 😂❤. You're really getting around for sure. Drive safe and hopefully we will see you soon. ❤
Yep, there's tumbleweeds in central and Western KS, too. Interesting about the surgery for floaters. I have floaters, but most of the time I don't really notice them too much. After hearing about the recovery I hope I never need that surgery. I can't imagine how you could do that 24/7! Can you get up to eat and use the bathroom? Anyway doesn't sound fun! Hope you don't have that type!
I don't think I could horizontally face down for even an hour. 😮 Seriously. I am somewhat claustrophobic (small elevators) and this is 'kinda" similiar being not able to move.
Hi Carolyn, fingers crosses on the 24/7 thing...regarding needing to wear sunglasses, the ones you are wearing in your video are very cute, stylish. My husband had macular degeneration & he was given Cocoon Sunglasses by his VA Opthamologist...they wrap around the side of your eyes, very protective...I liked them so much I bought some for myself.
My dad had macular degeneration the last few years of his life. My eye doctor also recommended the PresserVision Areds 2. I take 2 every day. I'll do whatever it takes to keep from getting MD.
I had the same surgery last june. I had the bubble and had to sleep and stay face down for 7 days and night. My eye healed but I have a small shadow in my vision, the Dr. said it should go away with time. Good luck on your surgery.
That would be a difficult recovery for a simple surgery! I pray that you’re not having that one, but the one where they use saline. Sounds like you’re traveling up highway 54 through the panhandle! Every time we drive through Texas on that road, we always sing, “the stars at night, are big and bright, ( clap, clap clap!) deep in the heart of Texas!“ and then then through Oklahoma, of course sing “Oklahoma,” from the musical. We have driven many times from Southern California to South Central Kansas. And I understand about those tornado warnings. They scared me too. Hearing about the San Andreas Fault, all my life doesn’t scare me as much as tornadoes!
I had a detached retina several years ago. I had to have my head down 50 minutes out of every hour. Thankfully it was not facedown. I did a lot of reading❤ Good luck with your surgery.
I had this done to repair a hole in my retina, at the macular nerve. It didn't hurt, but I did have to do face down luckily only 4 days. My doctor filed my eye with gas (bubble). But I also just looked down with a tablet in my lap & as long as I didn't sleep on my back I could do my side, trying to keep it somewhat down. I could take a break every hour, but I😮 didn't generally do that since it's spooked me to do that. It did great. You can actually see that bubble floating in there, pretty weird. Finally Sam's Club has a generic AREDS which is much cheaper. I've taken it for many years. Get ready for the crazy body eye you get though for a few days.
Well that clears that up! No pun intended. :) I met a woman having Macular Degeneration treatment, she gets injections in her eyes (both) every 2 weeks...won't stop it but supposed to slow it down. She said it didn't hurt, she just felt pressure (same as cataract surgery) only you can see the needle coming. Yuk. I'm old enough to remember tumble weeds in the San Gabriel Valley (east Los Angeles) they even named the local movie house in El Monte "The Tumble Weed Theatre." 😁😁😎😎👍👍
Hi Carolyn, you look beautiful as always. I would love to get my hair cut like yours. It is adorable. Also, I love your sunglasses. Are they prescription ones or can they be purchased at a store? I sure am glad you are posting often now. I really enjoy your videos. I would love to hear some stories about when you were a police officer. I bet you have some interesting ones. Enjoy your trip!
My wife had a vitrectomy a few months ago for a floater. She had the bubble and they only told her not to lay face up for a while. Hopefully yours will go that well too. Good luck.
This is the surgery I was told its a matter of time and I will need it ...and will need to lay face down for 3 - 5 weeks !!! 👀 Good Luck Carolyn ❤ P.S. wearing sunglasses more definitely helps a bit.
:) THANKS MUCH for the updates and hope eye Surgery goes well! Safe travels, and OMG 4 states in 1 day! I can't drive as far anymore :( Used to do 13 hour commutes to Bay area :( Stay well and ALL the BEST! Cheers :)
2 weeks face down I can’t imagine what it would be like. I pray that you don’t need to do that. I’m having cardiac surgery the end of May already losing sleep over it. You both be safe driving. See ya ❤
It's OK , I find it difficult to get my point across concisely sometimes these days too . I'm a few years younger and don't have MS , so in my unprofessional opinion you're doin' great ;)
Here in California, one day on the 101, 2 tumbleweeds came out of nowhere and 1 landed in the no. 1 lane and the other in the no. 2 lane ahead of me and I didn't have time to think so hit it and it scratched my hood. Another day on the 26 freeway there was a large roller brush that looked almost as wide as my lane and about 2' high. I had time to go into the no. 1 lane to go around it. I thought that maybe it was a street sweeper roller brush?!!!! It can be dangerous out there.
Typical for us folks with MS..oh something else just fell off or sudden blurred vision.👀 I'll deal with it later 😅😅😅😅 You will be good to go... positive vibes all the way 👍🏾
I had both of my eyes done, nothing to it.I wore glasses since 5 grade and now I don't.. just a little note the floters do come back and you just have to get them lazered off may sound bad but nothing to it!!
My mother in law had that surgery, as long as you walk with your head down & sit with your head down it was fine for her no TV ( although she had it on for noise) you can sleep on your side. It was a long week and a half but it worked.
THERE IS NO SURGERY FOR MACULAR DEGENERATION BUT THERE IS AN INJECTION YOU GET EVERY MONTH THAT STOPS THE PROGRESSION. Sorry I yelled, but I wanted you to read my message. My dad has macular degeneration and he got the injections for several years. It’s expensive, but insurance and Medicare pay for a lot of it and the drug company will often comp the rest. PLEASE get your ophthalmologist to get you started right away. Is yours wet macular degeneration or do you know? It makes a difference in the treatment options.❤TN Nana
Were you having a Migraine headach? Migraines can cause eyes to do that. I know people who went to urgent care when their eye had the same issue. The hospital analyzed and it was not a stroke. It was from a migraine.
Hit one of those huge(boulder sized) tumbleweed..flew right in front of my car lol..car handled it like a champ til I could stop and untangle it from my front end lol.have a wonderful day 😁
Oh my goodness, Carolyn, you sure have had more than your share of different health issues. My mom had macular degeneration as well. She swore the Dr said it was called mascular, not macular. (Her hearing was bad obviously). Anyways she would get shots for it. She was told to wear sunglasses as well which wasn't an issue as she lived in Yuma. Take care.
I don’t have macular degeneration but have retinal hemorrhage and have to get injections every 3 months. Also have floaters which I always confuse with bugs😂.
