Very informative. I prefer to not use chemicals but I do give in sometimes when it makes the most sense. I recently found a Japanese Knotweed plant. In my area, they can be difficult to control and I wanted to be certain to get rid of it right away. I sprayed it and so far have not found any others. I totally agree with your advice to read the label. They are very informative. I would also suggest doing some research before you chose a chemical. A few minutes of research is a small investment to make sure you are making the best choice. Thanks again for a great video.

You are absolutely right I hate landscape fabric. Years ago as a new gardener I did use it and as you said weeds grow right on it . Waste of time, energy and money. To this day I am still pulling it out.

My girlfriend got me interested gardening, then I moved 4 hours away. I miss her experience and knowledge of plants but so thrilled that I discovered your website. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of gardening, it’s like having my girlfriend sharing her knowledge.🤗

Thank you for covering this topic. Very informative. I prefer no chemicals around my property. Installed a flower bed and tree bed last summer and wow, the soil has been improved dramatically. I have never see so many fat warms.

A perfect example of how NOT to mix the chemicals and the use of PPE's. Also, never dip your garden hose into the chemicals and don't use your bare hands on the chemical overflow (on the outside of the container and the hose}. 😱

I agree totally with your advise. I use a lot of cardboard, hate landscape fabric, try to pull out weeds in early spring, prefer sweating it out and manual weeding to chemicals (which I have significantly cut back use of ) and keeping check on weeds often to keep them from getting out of hand. I use a preemergant also. Mulching and maintenance make gardening a lot easier with beautiful results. Your common sense advise is spot on😀

When using a sprayer, it also helps to add a colorant / dye. That way you can see where you have sprayed.

When filling a pump sprayer I fill with water first, then I add the chemical. That way you don't have the foaming action.

Thank you for the information. I try to use cardboard. It does work well. But there are areas that I can’t use it like you said. And pulling works well if you get rain.

Running livestock on roughly 240 acres, the weed we use chemical control on the most is Canadian thistle. We generally pull then spray. We call them the ENEMY. For grassy weeds in my flower beds I mostly pull.

Would love a video on modifying/adding to/adjusting an existing homebuilder installed drip irrigation system in flower beds. I’ve changed the plants in the beds but have no idea how to find the drip holes in the tubes or the best way to add emitters. Your channel is so great! Thanks for all the info.

Yeah that is actually one thing I know very little about. We never did irrigation, I always subbed it out.

I bought an herbicide, red the label and did not use it. I took it to a hazardous waste station to get rid of it.

I pull weeds then put down preen. I have to fight cottonwood trees whirly gigs. I don't have that kind of time. I have a perrienial grass with runners that go everywhere I'm still pulling that one.

Hi..love your videos. How the happy hell do I get RID of Bishops weed/ Goutweed/ Elder weed? It has taken over most of my beds and I am ready to scream. I have put down heavy black garbage bags every where and covered it with much. I have lost most of my gardening area due to this. After a year, you pull up a corner of the plastic, and there they are, the white longggggg roots. The only thing I have found that DOES work is Ortho Ground clear. It does kill them off, but you cannot plant the area for 1-2 YEARS ughhhh..HELP ??? Thanks,Anne

Smothering and pulling are your only 2 non chemical options. If you do decide to use a chemical, and I am not advocating that one way or another, you have to make your own choice. You will probably have to use a "kill all" something with glyphosate. Remember it kills all......so watch drift, where yiu spray and wear the proper protective gear. Read labels and make sure bishop weed is listed.

Spray weeds with a wand sprayer. You better target the weed and keep the spray farther away from you.

How would I get Blood Grass out of my flower beds? I have used round up In between my plants but have been manually pulling it out for the most part which takes about 24 hours of manual labor. I’m so frustrated and lost any advice you could give me would really be appreciated. I live in the south suburbs of Chicago.

I agree with you on everything. I would love to use organic but after being at my new place for 3 season, the organic doesn't really do it unless you use a lot, which i find no difference than just using chemical at half the cost. The issue Iv been having ever since I moved from west coast to east coast, is timing is just never right for me. NYS Capital region can be very windy a lot of times. And when the weather is perfect here I am to busy with work (work from home) and when the weather is crappy I don't have many task that need to get done except for in the garden. I love gardening but here in NYS its not as enjoyable as I always feel rushed to get things done.
