What a story, Mat. I couldn't imagine what that must have been like. I'm sooo happy to hear that you are recovering well. You are a stronger man than me. Wishing you all the best!
RIP Mat. Your eloquent dissecting of all things motorcycle will be dearly missed. Thankfully, we have your splendid videos here on the channel to watch over and over again with grins on our faces and joy in our hearts.
Good luck Mat on your journey back to health. Thanks so much for all you do and for sharing your story. May your journey back to health be a very speedy one.
Mat , that was the biggest kick up the backside I needed to appreciate life for what it is - a gift! I wish you well mate , you have courage and belief ! 🙏
Legend mate, been in same position and just bought a 1290 Superduke GT after watching you compare the SAS vs Gt I’ve come back from the Cancer treatment, but at 62, and not riding from treatment for 9 months , loving the GT, thinking of you mate, but you’ll be fine!, it ain’t easy, but these things make you appreciate a lot of things, including wife , family and a life of living properly
Thanks for sharing Mat, I’ve always been blown away by your proper journalism approach on the motorbike world, especially your frank rants. Keep up the good fight, thoughts are with you.
Thank you for sharing Matt, I'm not religious but I am saying a little prayer for you and wish you a speedy and full recovery for many more years with your family, friends and motorcycle adventures. 💪✊👍
Christ Mat, I thought it was bad that I had arthritis in my wrists, but what you have gone through takes the cake. I hope there is still many more happy riding and other sorts of days left ahead and more of those irreverent Bike Show installments also. Get well soon.
Wow Mat, WOW!!! 😯 You sir, are a warrior of highest order! I'm so glad you lived to tell the tale. If you're able to ride again, or decide to go full on back into moto journalism, we'll all be better for you continuing to share your talents. I know you'll do what's best for you and what brings you happiness and peace. Sending you all the strength in the world. Best wishes to you and yours, all the way from Texas 🙂
Mat...will keep you in my prayers...always loved your content and have every expectation that I will continue to love your new content in the years to come... best wishes from San Diego
There are spanners and spanners, that’s some spanner. Thank you for all the great content which has made my life richer, and you’ve only gone and done it again, respect.
Mat. You look just like your old self on the video so I hope that's an indication that you are on the mend. I wish you a speedy recovery. I really appreciate your work and that you bring a balance of maturity and enthusiasm to your reports. You commentary on how motorcycling has enriched your life really resonated with me... and caused me to reflect on the people I've met and friends I still have through my involvement in our shared interest. (Even those I've been introduced to virtually!) My very best to you... and thanks to Donovan for holding down the fort! Alan (Victoria BC)
The ones who experiment a little longer life have to face this health intricacies . It’s good to know that you’re coming back. I love your work. Rock on!🤘
G'dat Matt.Isn't it funny how life throws a curve ball at you just when you think that you are at the pinnacle of your game! Shortly I will make it to 65, but I will be wheelchair bound (former military). I have ridden motorcycles for the last 50 years and as you stated, the therapy that also keeps me going can only be found on two wheels.Bravo to you Sir for keeping on keeping on!! Great spirit to have and I sincerely hope that you fully recover with the help of your family and the passion of motorcycles running through your veins. Strength will always come from within brother. All the best from an Aussie vet.
Best wishes Matt, here’s to a full recovery and seeing you back on your bike. Always enjoyable watching your style of honest journalism I look forward to watching many more episodes. Stay strong.
Oh Mat, what a sorry state you’ve been in; I truly wish you all the best for a speedy and full recovery. You’ve been missed: your wit, charm and insights form part of my own mental therapy and I look forward to each episode with glee. Take it easy - your audience will still be here when you’re ready to return to two wheels.
Love your witty discourse on the world of motorcycles, always enjoyed watching your videos. Wish you a speedy recovery and a quick transition back to two wheels.
Bloody hell Matt, another amazing chapter of your life has been revealed. Stay strong and heal fast. I have been following the RU-vid channel from Australia since I stumbled across it all those years ago. I have always enjoyed the show that you and Donovan create. 😊
Thank you for updating us on what you’re going through. Thoughts and prayers! You truly are one of the best motorcycle journalist I listen to, and I look forward to reviewing and riding more motorcycles.

Hi Mat. So sorry to hear about the very difficult journey you’ve been on. Thank you for sharing. My thoughts and prayers are with you my friend. Get well soon. We have missed you. Genuinely one of the best.
Mat. god bless - i hope for the best for you in your recovery. cant articulate well on how much your work has enriched my motorcycle experience. thank you
I'm very sorry to learn about this. You are obviously a very positive individual, and I'm sure that will help you through it all. It will be a great day when you slip into first gear and roll down the road. I had a stage 4 cancer 8 years ago, combined with a stroke on the operating table, and I have a video of my first, very unsteady, run down my drive on my Ural, which I bought expressly to do. I have just ordered a Streetfighter V4s, so, as you can see, I'm still going, although my very, very dear wife recently died and motivation is hard to find at present. All the very best to you and your lady from England.
I wondered what had happened. I've subscribed to the Bike Show for years. It has always been one of my favourite subscriptions. I think mainly because you don't pull punches and are happy to be controversial and, ultimately, honest in your opinions. Good luck with the recovery and further treatment. All the best to you.
All the best from Australia Matt, love your work and I hope you have a full and speedy recovery. I was floored watching this, and your amazing resilience I the face of adversity is inspirational. Take care
Incredible how you can look so good so shortly after such a major and life saving operation! You're so right about your positive attitude and desire to get back on your two bikes! I have a Triumph Rocket 3GT and BMW K1600GT sitting in the garage waiting for me to recover from my oesophageal cancer op and chemo so I am a fellow biker with you in more ways than one! 😆 Good luck with your recovery, like you say there will be ups and downs but the bikes are waiting for you! 🤗
What a massive speed bump for life to throw at you Mat! And a bloody scary one. Great to see you looking more back to normal, though I appreciate you must still have a long road ahead 👍🏼
Shocked at your news and especially so as I lost a very close friend recently to the same illness... he was only 60! Get yourself as well as you can and enjoy life for all its worth.
Definitely been missing you these last few weeks. Listening to the first part of your story, I couldn't help but think you must have a really good GP...if he hadn't told you to go get scanned right away the consequences would have been dire. My prayer goes out to you for a full recovery. Get well soon, Mat.
I am sorry to hear about your health issues. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and good health going forward. A massive "widow-maker" heart attack and complications took me into the afterlife and back in 2022, and though I made a near-full recovery, my priorities are forever changed. Enjoy your bonus time and stay close to the people who love you!
Dear Mat, my best wishes for you - I keep my fingers crossed for a full recovery - my thoughts are with you, your family and your entourage - your show, your ability to express emotions, your reviews, your language and personality inspired me over my last years of riding and hopefully will continue to inspire me in the future - lots of strength - keep on fighting …
Glad your on the mend and will be returning creating more great videos! What a wild turn of events and yet you life to tell the tale. Good on you for seeking care and your wife for bursting through the stubbornness.
Positive thoughts to you, my friend. Thanks for letting us know what you've been going through. I think we all agree that motorcycling, even thinking (day dreaming) about riding, is good therapy. Good to know that your wife and family are 'working the pits' for you. ;-) ✊✌ Looking forward to your future commentary/reviews.
Great to see you recovering mat , wishing you a speedy recovery and hopefully back on two wheels and enjoying yourself in the corners in a few months 😊
OMG Mat 😳, stunned best describes hearing this. I hope you are well on your way to a full recovery. Although I know there are many hard days ahead with chemotherapy, please take some solace in the fact that many of us are wishing you well, and even saying a prayer or two for you. And as feeble as it sounds, get well soon.
Wishing you all the very very best in your recovery, you've obviously been through a bloody awful time, fingers crossed mate for better times, and better rides ahead 🤞🏍️
Thankyou for sharing your story. It must have been horrific going through such a surgery, our son had gone through a similar ordeal. I hope you continue with your recovery and it gets you back enjoying bikes soon. I love that your passion is what makes us have no regrets and remain positive through dark times. We can all relate to this and is why we all relate with you. Great to see you back on RU-vid. Goodluck to you and your family.
Hey Matt! It must be said. You have positively impacted so many of those people you have met over the years. Me being one of them, I can only attest to your positivity, sense of humour and overall great character! I will never forget the phone call I received from you, telling me that I won a spot to join you and Harry for the inaugural BIKE SA Bike of the year test. It was a life changing experience! Thank you for sharing this rather personal matter with your fan base. It again reaffirms your values. All the best for the road to recovery my friend! Regards, Juri
Crikey!! What can one say, except for the massive admiration that you still manage to be so entertaining and concise, so soon into your recovery. It’s not very blokey of us to pour praise, but got a feeling yer gonna have to get used to it, at least until a few reviews back into action. In particular I’m looking forward to your review of the R12nineT, so please pull your finger out…..you’ve got work to do. Best regards.
Best of luck Mat, what doesn't kill you will make you stronger mate I'm sure you will bounce back in due time. I've enjoyed getting to know you and watching your reviews. Thanks
