True fact: Don't let the sweet innocent faces and happy catchy music fool you. These ladies were HARDCORE. They partied harder then a lot of the guy rock bands of the day. They also managed to have hit after hit for the short time they were together. 😉
The blonde guitarist -- Charlotte Caffey -- got kicked-out of Ozzy Osbourne's dressing room at the 1985 Rock In RIo Festival because she was so wild. Legendary, indeed. These women were the BOMB!@@CdnTrader1
The Go-Go’s were finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. They were the first all woman rock band have a number one album. You definitely need to listen to We Got the Beat next!
@@michaelasay8587 Okay well then there the 1st all female band that played all there instruments that had a #1 album Oh we Got the Beat is Definitely Rock And Rock And Roll Isn't Just All About Rock Music!!!
The Go-Go's are all in their 60s and still touring... and looking awesome! Blondie's Clem Burke was sitting in on the drum kit to fill in while the band's drummer is on the mend (he's a percussion legend).
This was my time. I was in my 20’s all through the 80’s and it was the best time of my life. The emergence of all these great artists plus the creativity of the videos, mainly on MTV, made it an unforgettable experience.
I saw these ladies in 1983 and they were amazing! They’ve always been my favorite girl group and I was so happy when they were finally inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame last year. These girls are the real deal and I love love love them!!
I love that Shawn gave it his pumping his arms ultimate enjoyment of a song. I was a kid when this came out, and I played this single on a record player over and over again. Still love this song to this day.
I got to see the Go-Gos in Korea when they did an overseas tour, always respected them for traveling overseas to entertain us servicemembers. I'd suggest "We got the Beat" for their next song.
The Go'Go's were so much fun back in the 80's. The Go Go's and the Bangles were two great girl groups. always loved that they were all "girl power" and played their own instruments. Their songs were so catchy and made you want to dance. I was in my 20's then and before I got married to my husband, I was working and rooming with a good friend of mine and her three little girls. They loved the Go Go's and every time I hear them I think of us dancing all over the house. No matter what we were doing we had the music blaring and were dancing from one room to the next. Their music takes me back to those happy days. How I wish I could bottle some of that energy.
Grew up with them. I hear this song and it takes me right back. My friends, the fun, the girls, school... all of it.. Just a fun song during such fun times. Someone wrote this on another page ----> The early 80's were the Saturday morning on the modern era. Bright, sunny, innocent but action packed and lots of cartoon colors. The best part about the music was that it still required real singing and playing, so even the pop stuff had soul and staying power. The drums had swing and bounce, the guitars and vocals had humanity in them. Every track a one of a kind slice of goodness committed to tape and transferred to vinyl. Think I'll go back for another listen.----> nails it.
Very young Belinda Carlisle on lead. Hope you recognised her. The Go-Gos are great. I like all the female groups, Bangles, Bananarama, The Runaways, etc. I love 90s female groups or lead singers like Echobelly - King of the Kerb, Lush - Single Girl, Sleeper - Inbetweener, Republica - Drop Dead Gorgeous, Catatonia - Road Rage, The Cardigans - My Favourite Game and Elastica - Connection
The 80s had so many awesome bands!!!!!!! Love the GoGos...you should do their song We Got The Beat!! Bananarama was another girl group of 80s but didn't play instruments...they have great songs called Shy Boy ....and Venus
I love the Go Go’s! All girl band with catchy hooks and amazing musicality that formed in 1978 in L.A. Eighties fun!! They were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021! Check out their hits, Vacation and We Got The Beat!❤️❤️
*the song that started it all. i was 13 when this hit. was obsessed. had a cheap synth back then & learned to play all the chords in the song (I was a 'by ear learner'). i only wish we had PC's etc back then to mix/record/etc. But LOVED this song & loved The Go Gos during their **_too-short_** run! great reaction!*
Bassist Kathy Valentine is my second favorite Female Bassist of all time behind Tina Weymouth of the Talking Heads. FYI Back in the day I had a Crush on her.
I remember the Go Go’s from the late 70’s. They had a couple good songs but never really followed them. This song does bring back great memories when we were in our early 20’s.
This song was written by the drummer From the Go Go's( or the bass player cant remember..the girl with short dark hair. That sings that lille verses in the red 50's car) and a lead singer from an English band ...''Fun boy three'' Who where having a fling when the Go Go's where touring UK. They wrote it together over the phone when she got back to the USA.''Fun boy three'' released a version as well so diff from the girl's but I love it! It's more English new wave.
The song was co written by Jane Wiedlin who plays rhythm guitar. The bass player is Kathy Valentine The drummer is Gina Schock The lead guitarist and keyboardist is Charlotte Caffey The lead singer is Belinda Carlisle.
Hi Shawn and Mel, These girls came out the same time as some friends of mine The Blasters, and my friend who played the Drums from The Blasters, went out with the Singer, Belinda Carlisle, but they made it big. The Blasters went big too but not as much as the Go Go's. You two should react to one of their songs? I would suggest either Marie Marie, So Long Baby Goodbye, American Music, Red Rose or One Bad Stud. A lot of their Music was used in movies too like One Bad Stud and Blue Shadow were used in Streets Of Fire plus many more
Oh, Mel, I would hang out with you in a heartbeat! I live two blocks from our City Park; we could rent an old convertible & drive it around the park blasting fun good music. There is even a fountain!
The lead singer is a young Belinda Carlisle. You should try some of her later solo hits like 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth'. 'Leave A Light On', 'Runaway Horses', 'La Luna'. I recommend 'Summer Rain', 'Big Scary Animal' or 'Lay Down Your Arms'.
love the Go-Go's always have awesome high energy and just so great of a band a lot of good songs too. great reaction S&M. might like the group-fanny one of the first women rock and roll groups. they are really good. fanny-cat fever-changing horses-badge-it takes alot of good lovin'.
They are singing about the hatred they got as an all girl band in the late 70s. They were not going to respond to the jealousy. Very important message.
If you really liked that song, try these two out from other females: “I Wanna Go Home” by Holly & the Italians and “Johnny, Are You Queer” by Josie Cotton
Belinda Carlisle should be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame as a solo artist. The native Beverly Hills, Californian, and former basketball player at BHHS.I'm so glad that basketball career didn't workout. There would be a HUGE,HUGE,VOID of great hits to missing from the 80s music decade.👍
This was their first hit song from their first album 1981 Beauty and the Beat. The 2nd hit from the album was We Got the Beat. Other great songs from that album, Tonite, Lust to Love, How Much More and World's Away. Their 2nd album 1982, Vacation: Vacation was a hit song and title track. This Old Feeling, We Don't Get Along, I Think It's Me, Girl of 100 Lists, Beatnik Beach. 3rd album Talk Show - hit song Head Over Heels 2020 song from them: Club Zero
Watch the movie about The Runaways, a all girl Rock group. All the sht they went thru a young women in the business. Spawned a couple of famous artists, Joan Jett & Lita Ford.
They recently got inducted to The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame! You guys need to watch their performance on the Rock andcRoll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. They are all still alive.
Damn........I don't know why, but I guess I just needed to see a couple of my favorite reactors watch this for the first time. It was like seeing it for the first time, myself, which is how it's supposed to be.
You have it backwards. Back in the 1980s, female singers/bands did get the same recognition/respect as male singers/bands. Good music was good music and gender didn't colour our expectations or perceptions. It seems that society has regressed/gone backwards since then as people these days seem genuinely surprised to find great female acts. How odd. Back in the day, we viewed it as normal that both genders made great music.
Love your reactions and the songs you choose. ❤️. Have a request, my son left the house one day 8 weeks ago and hasn't been heard from since. I'm on an emotional rollercoaster and I don't know what to do. Thought maybe if I could get the word out someone somewhere would know something. Don't mean to bring depression to you or anyone. I'm just a lost mom. He's 30, name is kile. Idk what I think you can do. I only know I need help. Thx
