I don't think a lot of younger people realize how big a star Elton John was in the 70's. He was selling out stadiums. You really can't go wrong with any of his songs from this time period.

First time i heard "your song" i just dropped everything (huge metal head myself). What a genius Elton is to music. And i also love that he introduced me to rap via Eminem. Good music is good music, and poetry shows in every genre. I would have never looked at the beatuful side of rap music (that i just thought was garbage cursing out other people), if it were not for Elton.

Why is it always people into metal that like to announce their status and how they identify as a metalhead in music comment sections? You're not special, although you all seem to think you are and your approval of other music is some kind of blessing.

So thisTaupin guy had Elton John sing all his thoughts and dreams? How cool.
@Carl-gj4ed
@Carl-gj4ed 2 года назад
@@NJTRAF I disagree. This song makes me feel something completely different based on what I've experienced in life and how this song fits in that piece of my life. I cry every time I listen to this song. Thinking a song only has one particular meaning is stupid. Everyone interprets music differently and assigns an emotion or event to that song which they relive every time they hear the track. This track reminds me of the time me and my friends watched Almost Famous when we were in high school. I remember that day clear as day whenever I hear this and miss many of them. Many lyrics aren't meant to be literal. The best ones aren't.
@NJTRAF
@NJTRAF 2 года назад
@@Carl-gj4ed you can interpret a song how you like but the literal meaning of the song and what it's about has been explained by the person who actually wrote the song. So that is quite literally what the song is about. Regardless of whatever you might think. That's not how it works. Master of Puppets is a song about drugs. We know this because the song, as James Hetfield explained, "deals pretty much with drugs. How things get switched around, instead of you controlling what you're taking and doing, it's drugs controlling you." If you think it's about the Toy Story movies it does not matter and is factually incorrect.
@MrRondonmon
@MrRondonmon 2 года назад
This was about Bernie Taupin's wife she actually sewed and mended the bands clothes at times. Bernie wrote the lyrics then Elton added the music later. She was his Tiny Dancer in life, the going down the highway with the lights hitting them was a band traveling on the highways and lights from two way streets (far fewer freeways/interstates back in the day)
@chriswildhaber35
@chriswildhaber35 2 года назад
Yessaahh, so true love this song, but everything that Elton does is great music.
@Wolverines77
@Wolverines77 2 года назад
Nope, 95% of today's freeways were in existence in the 70's that are out there today. Now, total lanes of interstate is a whole different ball game. I know, because we travelled coast-to-coast 8 times berween 72 and 84. Lots of bands, even mega hitters would play EVERYWHERE, not just the biggest venues. Performers used to travel to the masses, whether it be NYC or Redding, CA. Also, to keep the money train on the rails, these tours very often were WAYYYYYY outside the legal boundaries on legal hours of operation and were constantly taking to side roads to avoid "weigh stations" and the majority of law enforcement out there.
@MrRondonmon
@MrRondonmon 2 года назад
@@Wolverines77 Thats just not true, no one is speaking about Just interstates. I know many, many roads that were just two lane US Highways that are now double lanes and separated. That's why I said Freeways, I know most of the Interstates were here already, Many state Highways that are busy look just like interstate roads from the 60s and 70s, they are Four Laned and Separated. Besides that most modern roads have also been straightened out, I remember state highways so curved you could not really do over 50 MPH on them. So, those roads in years gone by were much different from today. People went from medium to small cities on back roads or state highways, nowadays those same "freeways" looked like our old Interstates. That's the point I was making, as a retired Truck Driver I should know. 😊You googled to see and you got a stat, but stats can be misleading, I am not speaking of just the Federal Express Highways or Interstates but rather all of our US Highways and even State Highways. U.S. 280 in Birmingham was a 2 lane curvy ass road, now its a 6-8 lane highway that's lit up for miles, you can't see lights from cars heading your way as that song speaks about because there are a 100 cars zooming by and the whole freeway is lit up. Things were just different, back in the day those same highways went by farms, so when another car was coming you NOTICED the other cars lights, now with strip malls and 100s of cars, not so much. You have to be in the TIME to understand it sonny.

The man is a genius, when he was coming up in Los Angeles, it was the place to be, and the time to be there. The piano riffs and the strings throughout are just a masterpiece. Lyrics perfectly encapsulate Los Angeles in the late 60s. The song is about a specific girl (a tiny dancer,like in a music box) a nickname, but generally about that type of girl, the kind of girl who wore a headband, and hung out on the streets, you know, hippie girls! The lyrics were written by Elton's writing partner Bernie Taupin. The song's lyrics were inspired by Taupin's first visit to the US in 1970, and were intended to capture the spirit of California, where he found the women he met highly contrasted with those who he had known in his home country of England. Taupin also stated in a 1973 interview in Rolling Stone that the song is about Maxine Feibelman, his wife at the time. The lead singer of Metallica was 7 when this came out.

The tiny dancer is the little dreamer in all of us that dances to our lives This seamstress for the band lives her life with the spirit of the tiny dancer in all of us. She’s not caught up in the world. She’s a dreamer and dances to her life. It’s a spiritual song telling us all to never let go of the little dancer in our soul

Tiny dancer is a sort of conglomerate figure of feminine comfort for a rock star living on the road, experiencing periods of lows and exhaustion and too many drugs ingested, too much energy put out. She's in his hand because she is reliably there. A charm

Think about a tiny ballerina spinning on your dashboard as you make your way home to your woman you love and is just as precious and characteristic as a tiny dancer but now in the palm of your hand. When he is with her she is real to him as real can be. She gets him home. I can see this song taking many different meanings but I can see myself in a old pickup Chevy making my way home. Love Elton John and his music is so thought provoking like YellowBrick Road, Daniel. You got to love this man 👏👏👏👏

Suggestion. Someone Saved My Life Tonight from Elton John. I played that to death as a teenager. It tells the story of the time Elton John considered suicide during his engagement to Linda Woodrow 1n 1969.

Bernie Taupin wrote the song and said that he and Elton came to California in the fall of 1970. It seemed like the populace is radiating sunshine. The lyrics of the song capture the spirit of California from 1970. Talking about the meaning of Tiny Dancer, Bernie Taupin said that he was just trying to capture the spirit of that time. He shared that he was encapsulated by the women they met, especially at the clothes stores and restaurants and bars during the Sunset Strip. He further mentioned that the women were very contrasting to what he had seen in England. He also added that the women had a thing about embroidering clothes and they wanted to sew patches on the jeans. Bernie Taupin had called it a perfect oedipal complex. Bernie Taupin has effortlessly brought all these women to life by calling them ‘Blue Jean Baby’ in the song. See the Tiny Dancer song here.

I'm old, from the 70s, and it's not about tripping. It's about Bernie (Elton's lyricist and good friend) in Venice beach near where Elton was playing in L.A. in the early 70s when Elton was getting started. The "tiny dancer" was Bernie's wife Maxine dancing around on the beach. It's just meant to be a sweet love song and nothing more, with Bernies imaginative take on the Venice Beach scene in the early 70s while they were all having fun in their 20s. Hope that helps.

You are overthinking it. Not a huge story behind it. He wrote the song about his writing partner’s (Bernie Taupin) girlfriend just for the heck of it because he thought Bernie would like a song about his girl. No deep meaning. In the video for the song they show people in L.A. going about their lives, but all are unknowingly brought together for a moment, listening to Tiny Dancer on the radio. Btw. A ballerina is a tiny dancer which I believe Bernie’s girlfriend may have wanted to be. Instead, she made many of Elton’s costumes in the beginning of his career (seamstress for the band). And, Driving down the highway with your arm around your girl, “hold me closer”… And if your girl is a ballerina and you are holding hands… you’ve got a Tiny Dancer in your hand.

I think it’s about the bus driver for the band who watches her during shows and with the band and then they load up and all he has is this little plastic dancer on his dashboard as he drives the bus or the rig to the next show. You used to see those back in the day. This song kept me going through high school. Kept me alive just hearing beautiful feelings and sounds during the early 70s, so full of promise and so very difficult. No cellphones, no cable, no computers, just records, stereos, and your imagination. Actually better in so many ways back in the day. Keep it up you guys. Your awesome. Takes me back. Thank you. Written about Taupin's wife Maxine Feibelman... "Taupin (Maxine) recalls the iconic song as the only one Bernie had kept secret from her during their relationship. “How it would work was, Bernie would sequester himself in his study, write the lyrics, show them to me and ask what I thought of them, and then we’d drive them down to Elton in London,” she says. “But I’d never seen the lyrics to ‘Tiny Dancer.’ Bernie gave them to Elton. We showed up at Trident Studios and it was just the engineer, Elton, Bernie and myself and they played that song. They looked at me and Bernie said, ‘We wrote this for you.’ It was just an out of body experience.”
