There’s a beautiful tie in between this song and the last song The Rev wrote for the band, “Fiction”. In “Fiction” there is the line “Promise me you’ll never feel afraid” In this song the response is “Sleep tight I’m not afraid”. Something about some of the greatest, “heaviest” metal songs is that they tend to be the least heavy musically. Slipknot’s “Snuff” is another great example of this.
Snuff is another example.. its right... music is just so vast and especially metal genre is just so beautiful.. it can be demonic and angelic at the same time...
I've been a fan of these guys since 2003, I'm in the crowds of several of the shows in the video at the end. I remember reading when Jimmy died on MySpace back in 2009. Song still absolutely breaks my heart.
The 19th of this month my best friend passed away 6 years ago, we played this song at his funeral. These lyrics just smack you right in the feels everytime.
This song is always cyclical for me. I found out the day after the Rev passed away and when the album came I really hurt for it because he was one of the main reasons I became a musician. Later on, I lost my best friend and I came back to it with him in my mind. I lost my mom and came back again, and just recently I lost my German Shepherd I had for 15 years and it's for her now too. I hope to be with them again some day.
Hey Beth, thank you so much for the reaction to my favorite band. So far you have listened to songs from A7X that are older than 2010. The guys have developed in the meantime and I would be happy about a more up-to-date reaction from you. "The stage", "Roman sky", "cosmic". Unfortunately, there are no official live recordings. But you're sure to find something. :) Greetings from Berlin ❤
I've lost a childhood friend for cancer when we were still quite young and this song reminds me of him. We were like these kids on the clip! And I love M. Shadows vocals in this song!
M.Shadows voice is so good in this song but Synyster Gates has always been the best things from this band he’s often called one of the greatest Guitarist of all time for a reason
Should have mentioned how m shadows voice actually sounds unique. He could go from low to high range with that little growl, which made him an hell of a singer.
Can never get through this song without tearing up. I think of the Rev, but I also think of my dad who passed way too young from cancer. I saw A7X in March 2024 and was disappointed they didn’t do this one live, but it was an awesome show regardless.
Writing songs and poetry has always been my form of journaling (as evidenced by my lyrics lol), so I'm really glad to hear that it's being developed into a formal therapeutic method.

If you like to reaction like this, you need to react some indonesian metal band. And i recomended you burgerkill - an elegy orchestra version. That song was amazing
Hi. Beautiful video. Can i suggest you to react new malaysian artist, elica paujin - oh huminodun? She was so incredible. You will love it. Btw im your fans from malaysia. 🎉
Great to see you analyze some more avenged sevenfold 😁 to bad you skipped the last part of the song, its the most emotional (and vocally impressive) part of the song! Long story short, you missed the best part ;(
Bands like Nirvana and Alice in Chains used terms like "Go away" and "Stay away" multiple times and it felt like a genuine emotion. But in the late 90's/2000's the rip offs got completely out of control. From Staind to what we called "Puddle of Creedsmack." Every other word was "away." Godsmack was literally an Alice in Chains song. I absolutely understand being influenced, you can hear Nirvana in my music, but that was just ridiculous.
