As a Lakers fan, I'm so glad it wasn't the Lakers trading for him. If he plays, he's a good stat filler, but he'll randomly disappear from the team and torpedo the team. He's done it on every team he's been on. He's still living off the 2016 Finals.

I think the best part for the Mavericks is that he's only around for 1 year. While that could be seen as a negative, with Kyrie's track record, keeping him for a very short stint is probably best case scenario because he'll leave soon anyways if it doesn't work out

KD staying on Golden State would be the easiest choice, but his name would be attached to a franchise that won without him and hypothetically would be (we saw in reality was/is) good enough to still compete for championships without him at all. Leaving to team up with Kyrie and Harden wasn't as clear-cut. There were no previous years of working together, there was not an existing mold for one new player to fit into; so if he won in Brooklyn too his legacy would show that he could win without Golden State.
