Hi again ;-) I was the DoP and did the VFX and color grade on this video, double hats once more. Thanks for the compliments... You pretty much nailed most of the things. About the rest, I'm not sure how much of the specifics I can disclose at this point, as we're so close to the release and there indeed is some BTS (about the upcoming album and **perhaps** this video too) that will be released out in the coming weeks. I do not want to steal the thunder. But i can discuss some stuff in general, i think. Part of the reason for not releasing in 4K was indeed the fact that even with today's much more powerful hardware, some things in this video still were very tasking computing-wise, and there was a LOT of stuff in the video. Another reason was consistency: we used bits and pieces from pretty much all available sources you can imagine, and some of it was not very high resolution to begin with. So, we decided it was better to have consistently sharp HD than inconsistent 4K, where some of the shots are sharp, and some other shots jump out as blurrier. The same goes with the colour grade: we tried to remain as consistent as we could with the rather notable colour grade, as well as things like grain, vignetting, lens flaring, and chromatic aberration as we could, not only for the look, but also to tie the vastly different looking source imagery together. The library of the Natural History Museum at Tring was indeed a beautiful location to shoot at. We were surrounded by priceless old books and specimen from the museum - and rather strict rules to not touch anything were in place.

Hi!! Thank you again for sharing all your insights - I absolutely love these stories that you have been sharing with us! It sounds like the shoot at the natural history museum was particularly challenging, wow. I don't know if this is something you'd be interested in, but would you want to record an interview with me at some point, perhaps after the release of the album/other videos including BTS, so that we add to the thunder rather than take away? :) If so please follow me on instagram @manondereeper so we can DM?

@@manondereeper NP - glad you like my scribblings ;-) Like with any shoot, you take the parameters you have, and make the best of it. I guess the shoot was challenging in a way, sure, but didn't really feel that way - we actually had fun there, and to me personally, as a sort of a science nerd, it felt like a great privilege to see some of the items, like the actual Darwin's finches from the journey of the Beagle first hand - and to have the exceptionally great museum staff answer all our silly questions. That's not something that happens every day. I will of course need to talk with the powers that be about the interview, and about what can be disclosed and what cannot - but sure, i'd be happy to talk with you. I followed you on Instagram...

Something you commented on, about Floors vocals in parts of the song, where it was difficult to hear Floor clearly, was done on purpose. Tuomas wanted Floor's voice to blend in with the choir. Your insight into the production of the video was very informative.... I really enjoyed the learning experience! Huge Nightwish fan....even at 66 years old...I still love heavier music! Oh...you have a new"Subscriber!"

You need to do Shoemaker, Elan and Harvest. Edit: note that Tuomas, the founder, keyboardist and composer of Nightwish, who turns into a tree (representing the circle of life(, considered becoming a marine biologist and has a lasting obsession with oceans. Note also that Nightwish are official ambassadors for the World Land Trust and have a wildlife reservation named after them in Mexico.

Wow! It was so nice to actually watch a filmaker reacting to this amazing Nightwish video, I love how you go back and breaks down a little all the technical stuff of the video and you are definately a Heavy Metal fan as well, very well done! Thank you for reacting to Nightwish, they really are telling an important message, I'm pretty sure that's the story Tuomas mentioned on a interview that he really don't see many people talking about it, and indeed we don't take it for granted how rare that we are here in the now, and everything that really happened resulting in us against all odds. Nightiwish changed a lot from fantasy to more grounded and scientific lyrical content, but keep the absolute poetry of the lyrics, really inspired in how Dawkings say about nature, I'm a fan since their very beginning, they realy deserve to be the greatest Symphonic Power Metal bands of the last decades...

During the pandemic lockdowns Nightwish were supposed to tour their album Human. :II: Nature. - with the help of computer animation they had an Entire virtual world created and sold tickets to their concert. Live show with a green screen “in a tavern”. The room, glass roof, tiles on the tavern floor, mugs of ale all included and “tavern” was set on the cliff above an ocean. It was definitely a highlight in what was a unique time in our history. Planet Hell ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y_wKS-zBt40.htmlsi=AfmBg4n53F7_8RUa

Some probability calculations: Step 1. Probability of boy meeting girl: one in 20,000. Step 2. Probability of same boy knocking up same girl: one in 2000. Step 3. Probability of right sperm meeting right egg: one in 400 quadrillion. Step 4. Now lets assume that you have just those 12 generations of ancestors mentioned in the intro to this song. For the probability of every one of those 12 generations of your ancestors having reproduced successfully with right sperm having met the right egg is 400 quadrillion to the 12th power. Given these 4 steps, the probability of you being born you at the present moment is 20k x 2k x 400 quadrillion to the 13th power. Going backwards in time with even more generations of your ancestors, we soon reach a probability of 1 divided by the number of atoms in the entire universe. This makes each one of us a unique miracle.

Thanks for your insight on the video, you highlighted Mankind’s influence of the CGI, combining real life footage from nature with the videography. The color choices. The historical events & discoveries of Mankind from science, art, poetry, music & dance There is a lot of Evolution/ Darwin theory in the video too from the lizard. the spider under the stingray, the butterflies, the flight pattern of the birds. The finches “Darwin observed that when two groups of finches competed over the same food source, eventually one of them would evolve a different beak shape so they could feed on something else”. And I think the droplet at the start of the video is the same drop with the little fish at the end of the video. 🐟💧

Nightwish dont dissapoint "did you feel the ghost energy song" I listened to this song many times by now, and it is one i like to listen to with my headphones or without, its really a good song, when i can do so to me. Some say Floors voice is low in the mix, and i can agree its hard to get all words she sing, but if you look at it soundwise it sounds amazing!! and after a listen or 2, you know most of lyrics, and its no problem at all, its done fully on purpose for the sound experince of it.. cant wait for rest of album!! Yesterwynde is the opening track on new album, i belive its only like a intro, its a little over 2 min long, #2 on album then is a almost 10 min song, thats proberly another epic!! #3 is where i think they bring in a heavy track, and this Perfume of the timeless is #5.. so i think its gonna be a good mix of heavy songs, Epics, and maybe a full balled.. Perfume of the timeless, well its almonst a ghost energy song right, telling all these ancestors is perfume around in a timeless world, being around you still, also a message that your existens matters!! i feel tuomas also put in a little message that mankind could do better still, Einstein turn to ape.. The title of the album is a word made by band member Troy Donockley, which Holopainen describes as the feeling of time, history, memory, and being connected to past generation, who have "all had their lives, their ups and downs, and they don't exist anymore, except as atoms scattered all over the universe. And we're going to be in that state pretty soon as well. So that should give you something to think about." Holopainen has described the album as being about humanism, history, and the inspiration thereof, and that outlook of the album is positive and optimistic ] Track listing Yesterwynde: release date 20th September 2024 All tracks are written by Tuomas Holopainen. Yesterwynde track listingNo. Title Length 1. "Yesterwynde" 2:43 2. "An Ocean of Strange Islands" 9:26 3. "The Antikythera Mechanism" 5:55 4. "The Day of..." 4:34 5. "Perfume of the Timeless" 8:11 6. I don't think that's the case. Designing things so you can downscale them while still keeping them legible is not very difficult. More likely is that the pre-existing footage they licenced for this one was not available at higher resolution. And then maybe the cost of CGI; someone needs to hand-tune all those masks and blends and higher resolution means more work. And more hours in the rendering farm.

It could easily come out as a sloppy mess, if not done properly, but everything just seems to flow together really well, and fits the music perfectly. A song this "big" needs a video to match that kind of grandness, and they definitely delivered. This one will be talked about for years, I think.

Hi, I so like your rection/analysis to Nightwish videos, you put another perspective/layer on the take. As we all know already Nightwish (Tuomas, the keyboard player) has always a deeper meaning with both lyrics and music and for sure when they are making videos too. He is a Poet using music lyrics and visuals. It is very common for him us use references between Nightwish songs also, so as you go deeper into the catalogue of Nightwish you will get that too. As I said is really like your analytic take on the visuals, and I would be even greater If you can connect them to the lyrics, so can I suggest that you read the lyrics beforehand? and in that way connect the visuals even more? You connected some dots already in this so you are close :) Sadly there is not that many music videos to Nightwish HUGE music repertoire but there are a few more. The previous album "Human. :II: Nature." has aloot of videos since it was released at the beginning of the Covid19 pandemic, and some of them can be hard to "interpret" the visuals, so it would be great if you can take on some of them :) You did "Noise" already, but I can suggest "Shoemaker" and "Pan" but then again you also have "Harvest", "How's the Heart", "Music", "Tribal" well the whole album actually :) Really hope to se more Nightwish from you soon :)

You mention the opening and it's text pointing out the many who had to come before us so that we could exist. From my reading about the history of humanity, you come to realize that a frightening number of times we have come very close to being wiped out as a species, either by nature or by our own hand. Or perhaps if not wiped out, at least relegated to a much less successful species.

The shot where character falls past the semi-still images is I think a represntation of the perception of linear time from an external non-linear point of view from a higher dimensional point of view. You would see a timeline as a still set of images, one moment after the other that you could walk through as you wished. You could also enter and interact with each moment in any order you wanted to. Also an RL eagle can carry away a deer. They can even do a human but I've never heard of it happening.

4K is the problems of the first world and the current generation, in my parents' childhood the radio was the most amazing invention and many families did not have electricity. A couple of generations ago, life was probably mostly about survival , and life hasn't changed much in decades or centuries. Today, the average Westerner has the opportunity for things that royalty and nobles could not imagine just 150 years ago (access to vast amount of information all over the world, communication with almost anyone on earth, food and goods available from almost anywhere all the time, the ability to travel thousands of kilometers away in hours) Even this would not have been possible twenty years ago, namely to write a comment in Finnish on the phone and it will appear translated for anyone to read 😉

What perplexes me the most in this music video is the underwater shot starting at 15:00 (going by the timing in your reaction video). They must've composited a water surface on it... but then something else is going on, is it in reverse? It couldn't've been just a shot from One Breath, could it?
@manondereeper
@manondereeper 2 месяца назад
It is from One Breath - I just found the moment you see it in the video (really truly, watch all of it, it's surreal). I'm fairly sure what you see is Néry walking upside down, feet at the surface, in a cave. That's why it looks so weird. If you look up over his head you see the actual sea floor. It looks unreal, that's why it messes with your head. They didn't need CGI - sometimes just shooting stuff upside down can warp your perception enough to make you feel like it's fake. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OnvQggy3Ezw.htmlsi=AojrcSM1dGq_2r1E&t=369

@@manondereeper Thanks for the reply! I didn't realize One Breath was short form, so I was kinda saving it for later. Thanks for the breakdown! And mad props to Julie Gautier who apparently filmed it *while* freediving, that must've been even tougher.

Great reaction. Élan and Shoemaker are a must, if you're interested. Yes, for some reason some videos go through for some when the same ones are blocked for others. That's like the silliest thing to me. I say, if you're gonna block it, block it all the time. If not, don't, all the time! Then again, it may have to do with whose upload you're watching?? My suggestion is to get it from the band or the record company, that being Nightwish or Nuclear Blast Records respectively. Stay safe and stay blessed. 😊❤️🤘🤘

It's all done by computer software - sometimes it catches you, sometimes not, depending on what exactly it's looking for and when and how often you pause. I've seen artificial "snow" overlaid on videos so as to break up the bitstream, presumably into pieces that don't entirely match the string(s) the software is looking for. It seems to work but it's annoying to the viewer. I expect that one could stretch a video just a tiny bit horizontally or vertically, and re-digitize it, so it looks the same to a viewer but is unrecognizable to YT's software cop.
@ytcag2007
@ytcag2007 2 месяца назад
@@jpdemer5 I understand. But record companies own the copyrights, not RU-vid. And then there is the process of the appeal of the "block". What's that about? Because sometimes some channels win the appeal and their reaction videos are released for viewing and some don't and stay blocked only to view on Patreon if the channel has an account.
@jpdemer5

@@ytcag2007 Well, YT saw fit to remove my post... I guess the truth hurts. The problem is that while YT doesn't own the content, they do enforce the copyrights, and they do it with bad software and a total disregard for the actual law, which allows fair use for commentary and educational purposes. When blocked, you're guilty until you can prove your innocence, and good luck fighting them even with the law on your side: they invest very little, if anything, on making that possible. (More truth - let's see how long they let this post last.)

Pretty sure Darwin had more books than "Origin of the Species" and that as he found a new species, he ate it. He'd document it for his books and have it prepared for a meal. Interestingly, the means of reaching, documenting, and classifying species changed so much at the beginning of the 20th century that we found that many early classifications were blatantly wrong, and others simply didn't exist at all. New evolved species come into existence every day, while several species die out every day. We used to say that fish all evolved from common ancestry, but we've found that this concept is completely wrong. With genetics we've found some truly unusual discoveries. Elephants evolved from Manatees (or from the common ancestor both are related to at least). In the last 100 years we've learned more about the evolution of every living thing than we learned combined prior to 1900 - and everything is still evolving. We may never learn everything, but with genetics we'll at least gain understanding how things relate.
@Halsu
@Halsu Месяц назад
To clarify, all fish (as well as us, butterflies and dandelions) evolved from the same ancestor, as far as we know. But yea, fish are much more diverse than it looks to the eye. We humans and other mammals are more closely related to salmon than the sharks are.

Musically, with their last album Nightwish have shot off on a tangent to what they were previously. Its like a totally different band and doesn't appeal to me nearly as much as their previous work. I had hoped it was a one-off, but this song, sadly (for me) seems to show it isn't. I get that its good.....but it just isn't for me. I've been a fan for over last 25 years, but now? Ah well, it was great while it lasted, but all thing end eventually. I always have their other previous albums and live concert videos.
