Heyy, I had this dilemma and I currently go Warwick and here’s what i can tell you: Accommodation wise Birms (infact any other uni besides Oxbridge) is obviously better because it gives more of an ap vibe rather than dorm rooms kind of thing. But for me personally I didn’t care as longggg as there was somewhere i can cook…even the whole ensuite thing i desired it but it wouldn’t have been a dealbreaker because sooo many ppl share here and not once have i heard a complaint. Tip- if u come Warwick- Lakeside, Sherborne, Cryfield and Westwood is where u might find the most black ppl but their a good walk away from central campus (what i’m not here for so i choose Arthur Vick). Degree wise: most i can tell u is that warwick is better academically and career wise because you’re always being sent opportunities through emails from ‘student opportunities’. Also i do a psychology module and I cba its toooo long, i hate it and love it at the same time- I didn’t do psychology for gcse or alevel so maybe what i dislike might be what u like (i just find their style of writing and the science and research long) Social life wise: I would go as far as saying that if i went birms i would’ve FAILEDDDD. The fun is literally at your door stop all day everyday, if you don’t have strong will power to study and stop urself from going out then forget ittt. It’s too much of a lit place!!! Very easy to get to from warwick so u can get that fun by being here anyway- the train barriers are open every night from like 9pm!!! Even within cov, there’s like 2 clubs that is black ppl focused and bare other popping white ppl clubs which i also go to cause why not. Motives on campus (kitchen parties, events by the uni) sometimes bang sometimes doesn’t. Warwick has the best societies- i do pole dancing, cocktails and yoga society😛 ermmm ACS is not the best🤷🏾‍♀️ Nigerian society comes thru sometimes. I’m indifferent to the nature around me icl, but then again I don’t have hay fever- it would probably annoy me if i did. Most of the times my curtains are shut, i really don’t try and appreciate the beauty or like the aesthetics of this place (but that’s just me cause, i decorated my room so it feels like home, I don’t care for what’s outside). The walk to tescos is the worst but that might just be me being lazy😂 I bulk shop. Ermmmm shopping…i order majority of the time but i also did that back in london, but i went shopping in city centre before it’s calmmm. There’s all the essentials, JD, sportsdirect, poundland etc. Friends and loneliness- you can make friends with ppl in cov if you like being in the city rather than being cooped on campus, in fact u could get an accom there if u like and pay for travel to campus but I wouldn’t recommend- travel here is big cash loss. I think uni can be lonely anywhere, u could be in birms and still feel lonely, it’s all about how much u put uself out there. For me personally maybe due the accom i choose, i wasn’t easy to make friends, like you will speak to ppl but if they don’t live with u then how do u become close? But i got friends from sixth form and made friends with their friends. Hope this helps lovely!!! Gonna make youtube vids with room tour etc soon cause i wanna help more ppl🥳 Best of luck and may God soon give you the clarity that you need❤️

@@Lala-od1gs I only went there for a Masters (1 year) and stayed in Heronbank. I fell in love with the nature, the herons, the eagles, and the fresh air. So the below is just from my experience. tl;dr (University isn't just about your degree): It's important to not only meet people in your course, but also to live with random strangers going through your same phase in life. You become a better driver the more cars you drive, you become a better house mate the more people you live with. You may find that since you have learned to live with your dorm room mates for a year, and got used to their bad habits, then you might choose them over course mates you may not like after you start living with them in Leam spa, Kenilworth, Warwick (the city), or Coventry (no! no! no!) Don't live with your significant other (if you find one). You are too young to go through that statistically plausible mess. Your grades are far more important. I lived in Heronbank, but Lakeside is just as nice (both these have geese, the others don't). There are other less costly options. The student union will be happy to give you a full menu. Long Answer: Back in my day (2010-2011) I had a wheat field and countryside surrounding me. But I visited in May this year and found that the wheat field in Heronbank has become a car park, and the pond has grown loads of algae :( Regardless, Heronbank and Lakeside are still very charming in the their own right. However, in summer the Geese lay eggs and become very protective. They will hiss at you. But you should think of this as a character building exercise... if you can stand up to a goose, then you just can't lose. Heronbank and Lakeside are a bit of a trek from main campus. However, I felt that the daily mini hike was also part of my character strengthening. Sadly, they have now placed bikes and scooters on campus to ease the student's commute - poor kids, they will think that everything in life has to be close to them.

In my opinion, schooling in Warwick is better. It has a higher ranking education wise and like you said, you prefer the Warwick campus. You could always take a train to the main cities during weekends and holidays. There’ll be a change of environment; when you’re in Warwick, you know you’re in school and all whereas when you’re outside you know it’s just to have fun and what not.

I was just like you, I was torn between UOB and Warwick however I ended up in Warwick. The city life in Birmingham is way better however if you're in Warwick you're only 20mins away and you get to pick and choose when you want to be immersed in the city life. UOB is also a journey away from the main part of Birmingham

Living on campus was the best part of my year in warwick ! U meet people everywhere, all the time, and i felt so much safer than when i was living in a big city! Plus nightlife, you're not far away from cov where u have kasbah every monday and also leamington spa that is litteraly a student city bcse most of the 2nd and 3rd years live there, so you have a lot of night-clubs +pubs and restaurants and it's very nice ! And also every friday, u have a party bus departing from campus to Birmingham if u prefer nightlife there

I graduated from uni a few years ago but I would say that the course, area and city/ town vibe we’re vital parts of my positive uni experience…. However, now that I’m doing additionally studies, I’m realising the course should be a priority. Get the most out of your money and join societies to give you a sprinkle of fun during your studies. I hope this helps and good luck with your decision x Edit: I agree with what the nice young lady said. Go to the better uni and you can always commute from Birms City Centre into Cov during your 2nd or final year, so you get the best of both worlds… I did this for final year whilst studying at Cov and it was the best decision everrrr 😍😂

I went to Warwick a couple years ago and absolutely loved it. I wouldn't say it's rural, just suburban. There's loads of black Londoners in Warwick, at least for a good uni. The academic side is great and the social side is great. Because we're a campus uni it's really easy to get to know people because in first year you don't need to leave campus much. So it's easy to make friends even if you don't live near them. The people are like the best part of Warwick. The societies are amazing, it was a great opportunity to try new things and meet a diverse group of friends. I was involved in ACS and Nigerian Society, I loved ACS. Our ball culture is the best, a lot of societies host balls in march, it's like a prom but with better entertainment. Best accom for black people is sherbourne and lakeside, they're also ensuites. I would definitely pick it over Birms, we travelled to Birms for events and birthdays but it wasn't necessary to be ina big city for 100% of the time. I feel like Warwick sets you up to get a good corporate job. There's a lot careers events and a lot of the societies are sponsored by big companies. You're also just surrounded by excellence, so it encourages you to aim high. You'll probably have to order most of your clothes online or go to Birmingham on the weekend. I wouldn't pick a uni based on the aesthetics tbh, a few years down the line it won't matter. It is really common for Warwick students to do modules from other departments so it allows you to explore other interests. In Warwick, regardless for your degree you can have lecturers in other departments buildings so how your department building looks isn't a big deal. Business/Management is really highly rated at Warwick so that's why the entry requirements are higher. Some of the business management modules require maths, but if you properly revise you'll be fine. I did Business for half my degree. I really like how Business was taught at Warwick, it was quite interactive and you could be assessed in more practical ways like presentations and workshops not just essays and exams.

Also in terms of course do whatever your most interested in, business is still a very useful degree and having a degree in general looks really and will help you whatever path you choose. It’s worth going to uni over doing like a business work experience course is for the experience and the people you meet and just having a good time before you have to get a proper job.

Personally I think Warwick is for you , like u said everything is within the campus and the buildings are more modern . If as well u want the night life u can always travel to other unis for it u don’t have to necessarily stay within ur uni for parties . Also cov is like 20 mins away so u can always travel there for the motives as well. Warwick also offers the course u wanted to do in brum . So overall u should go Warwick

Warwick. For the course. That'll be better in the long run, imo. For business: do a higher level apprenticeship rather than a degree. I personally can't see the point in doing a degree in business: just do some key courses depending on what area of business you're interested in, eg, Agile for project management, etc. Ps, I hope the exams are going well 🙏🏾 🤞🏾 Pps, don't forget that you can still travel to Bham for shopping, hanging out, etc. A bit like if you lived on the outskirts of London you'd travel into central to go Oxford Street or out to Westfield. Don't let lack of vibes in Coventry stress you, you can travel out of there and around the Midlands! Accommodation: you'll probably only be in it in year 1? After that people go into houses with their mates. 🤔

University of Birmingham is way more fun and more london like (accoms are pretty and very social aswell) but Warwick is also really good academically and the course you were talking about with the different modules sounds very interesting! Why should one accumulate all that debt just to enhance their RU-vid channel when they can learn everything about business and marketing through online resources and textbooks available. There are apprenticeship opportunities and degree apprenticeships available which cover the cost of obtaining a degree. However, If your career plan is in line with the degree you’re doing, then going to university would be a wise decision. Moreover, the debt burden will increase significantly after graduating due to the cumulative effect of both loan for upkeep and tuition fee. This may lead to a prolonged repayment period of a decade or more, compounded by the imposed interest. Attending a reputable university is not enough, the individual must utilise the opportunities presented to them wisely. Rather than wasting time socialising and engaging in recreational activities consistently, they should focus on their education. Some individuals actually view their university experience as an opportunity for socialising, rather than an opportunity to further their education.

Both the unis are similar as in they arent a city campus and are secluded uni campuses. Even if going to uob you wouldnt be going to the city centre of Birmingham often cus it's not exactly the nearest unlike aston or bcu. And if you want to learn business and go Birmingham then aston is the one, they're business school is top in west Midlands. Plus aston uni is a city campus so you would literally be 5 mins from bullring and clubs since you said you want fun

Sis honestly I recommend you go to Birmingham and do Business Management over Psychology. This is coming from someone who did Psychology for my bachelor's degree then did Business Management for my master's. If you have no desire to do psychology in the future it is honestly a pointless degree. Second-year is hard and if you are not passionate about it or you have no plans on further studies many people start to hate it. I HIGHLYYYYY recommend you just do business. Business might not be as rated but all that really matters is what you want to do in the future. I am in the business field now and I love it, my master's was the best year for me academically because I did something I actually enjoyed and honestly what you learn will be 10x more applicable for your future outside uni ANDDDDDDDD that placement year will be great on your CV.

Rootes grocery store is a rip off honestly the prices r mad but its so near my accom so its really convienient icl. Birm city centre > cov 100000% but ngl getting to birmingham from cov station is so easy and cheap so you really can go anytime you want. As for the buses, you mentioned they didnt say the stops but I think thats just the odd bus here and there. The two main buses that go from campus (12X and 11) which head straight into the city centre, both announce each stop but google maps has helped me a ton over my first year here especially since im not from cov.

Birmingham university is a great university btw. Don’t let people black excellence you to do death about Warwick. Of course it’s a great uni but the modules you’re offered across all three years is way more important. Which university’s modules get you the most excited? That would be my starting point if I had to do it all over again. You can get a great job going to either. Both universities are Russell Group and have a great standard of teaching. So just do what feels right for you. University is what you make it, it’s about intentionality and carving the path you want for yourself career wise and doing your best academically imo. Very long comment sorry 😂😂 but I’m from London and in my 2nd year studying psychology at Warwick so hopefully this is useful 😊 Area: In my opinion the black population is basically the same in both Warwick and Birmingham. Being from south London Warwick is definitely more suburban and main Coventry (CV1) is very much ghetto but so is Birmingham city centre to be fair, but I personally prefer Warwick as it’s a much more relaxed environment. I do love visiting Birmingham tho for shopping (they have a way better Primark) and social life and it is only a 30min train journey. However the thought of being there full time is too much.(It can be a very chaotic place!! ) So going there for a day or two knowing that I’m going to be coming back to Warwick is amazing for me. But if you prefer city vibes then you would definitely prefer Birms. Accommodations: Very much overpriced in my opinion, and out of 6 choices you can only pick 3 en-suites and the rest have to be shared, so I would recommend Sherborne, cryfield townhouse and lakeside for en-suites and for the rest put anything down but Rootes. If they don’t give you what you want like with me they gave me my 6th choice, I would recommend looking at private accom which is actually better than campus, but I have to say it may be a bit harder to meet people in your year group. Nightlife: I feel like motives in Cov and birms are pretty much the same, because lots of people travel from Warwick to Birms for motives and vice versa. However in terms of everyday there is definitely more to do in Birmingham. Studying: I think Psychology at Warwick is good and the department is overall nice and supportive. But the course can get very intense,stressful and boring, but I feel like that’s how it is with most degrees anyway some modules will always be better than others. Side note- WBS is deffo a nicer building, but you are rarely ever required to go to the psychology building unless you’re meeting with your tutor or if you want to talk to one of your lecturers. Business or psychology: Getting into business and marketing is definitely not hard with a psychology degree and I personally find psychology modules more interesting. However Psychology is actually much harder than you think. So if you know business is what you are more interested in,I would suggest doing that as they will also provide more opportunities tailored to that field. You do get 1 or 2 optional modules a year if I remember correctly, so if you do a business degree you can always psychology modules as ur optional modules or vice versa as lots of psychology students do WBS modules as well. Another thing you might want to consider is people on the course. The amount of black people in the psychology course is extremely small compared to the amount of white people so this does make things a bit difficult in my opinion. Hope this helps you out a bit and good luck in your exams xx

Ong this was so helpful. Ngl i heard about the accommodation thing and that’s what’s swaying me towards birmingham because i reallyyy don’t want shared bathroom😭 Also i’ve heard that the psych course at warwick is really research methods heavy, do u think that’s true?

@@nataniahinds Heyy I do Psychology at Warwick too! I also have friends at Birms doing psychology and I think there’s just slight difference. At Warwick it’s a BSc and at Birms I believe it’s BA and I think it’s translates to the course slightly. In Warwick it’s a great mix of sciences and essay based topics though. I’m also doing a placement in my degree at a tech firm next year so you could also do a business placement with Psychology btw xx

@@nataniahinds There is quite a bit of research methods in yr 1 but I don’t think it’s that bad, it’s mainly A Level stuff with a bit more depth. The worst part of the research methods for me was the statistics part which was very difficult. The accommodation process is really just a thing of luck in Warwick, and for me there was no way I was staying in a shared bathroom, especially since I started uni in 2020 at the peak of COVID. But my friend stayed in one and she said it wasn’t as bad as she thought it would be. What I will say tho is that there’re pros and cons to all uni accommodations, because I had friends who had en-suites in both Birms and Warwick who still hated living there because their kitchens were always terrible. So there is literally no winning unfortunately just heavy on the character building when it comes to accom.

hi, im considering both warwick for 2023. which courses would you say have the most black people on? and overall as a black student do you feel like you face any extra inconveniences eg haircare, food shopping, racism, isolation ect? tysm
@jess_4496
@jess_4496 2 года назад
@@hillary5310 Heyy, I haven’t faced any racism or micro aggressions luckily and don’t think any of my friends have (Everyone is mostly friendly here) so I would consider that rare. Also I’m not really sure about most subjects but I would say business and economic subjects as well as Politics and international relations, sociology, medicine/biomed and law have quite a lot of black people. Food shopping is quite standard as we have a Tesco and Aldi close to campus and a Sainsburys which is a bit further away but if you do want more specific things they will probably have it in main cov which is only a short bus journey. For hair stuff on the other hand it’s definitely difficult, there’s only one store in the shopping centre but it’s expensive. So I would suggest if you did decide to come to Warwick to buy all that stuff beforehand xx

Just from all the comments you’ve been making, I can already tell that you’ve made your decision, & that’s to go to Birmingham. And you going to Warwick was sort of for you to find valid excuses not to go 😂 if i’m making sense. But honestly, I think you should be open to the idea of going to Warwick, it is different from a city campus, but there is easy access to Birmingham, it’s not far, & ultimately, they have the degree you want, which is the important part. But ultimately the decision is yours, & you should do what makes you happy 🤍 & make a decision you won’t regret. all the best xx

@@nataniahinds and that’s ok, because i think if you keep trying to keep convincing yourself that Warwick might be better & that maybe you should go there, when you do end up going, i promise you, every little & i mean EVERY LITTLE inconvenience will lead in you thinking that maybe Birmingham would’ve been better, and that you would have had a better time there. So i say go for what you want 🤍

Hi! If you want to focus more on the academic side I would say go for warwick but if you want more of a balance, Birmingham would be better. Also you would only be living on campus for your first year and living out in the city for the remainder of your degree so keep that in mind x

Watching this I feel like you really want to go to Birmingham but you can’t justify picking Birmingham over Warwick because it’s more respected like academically and your course at Warwick is also more respected. I’m gonna have to say just fuck that and go Birmingham Fr. Like it’s not like Birmingham is some like dead, uni with a bad reputation. It’s also very respectable (just maybe not as much a Warwick). As for the business or psychology decision; I’m one of the “no point in getting a business degree” people but maybe really look into the placement year thing. Like try and evaluate how much that’s going to help you with where you wanna go and what you wanna do. If it seems worth it then pick that over the psychology course. Wishing you luck! Edit: just finished the video. I feel like you were leaning more towards Warwick at the end. But I also feel like you are more into the business and marketing course than you are into the psychology.
