That's one flowing solo, and the rhythm you put into it is pretty insane. Dang.

it's in reference to the overall form of the piece - the "A" section is in D minor and the "B" section is in Eb minor .. and it's always in this order AABA... AABA... etc

Where can I find the solo'd version to this? Where the first clip before the backing track starts comes from?

Both chords are Dorian (2nd mode of a major scale): D dorian (D to D in the key of C major)/ Eb dorian (Eb to Eb in the key of Db major)

Understanding the lower level building blocks of music (keys, scales, modes, time signatures etc.) allows you to create higher level musical constructs (songs and the like). By working on the smaller stuff you improve not only your ability to play but your ability to create.

Hi Gabe, the chords are listed in the description. I'm basically making up clusters of notes stemming from D dorian and Eb dorian... so it might sound like there's lots of chords, but it's actually a very simple chord structure....I hope that makes sense.. enjoy :)

Play sax to these backing tracks all the time. Just thought you deserved some credit. Great tracks keep them up! Maybe release some videos on music production, and jazz guitar lessons.

Well, I use a mixture D natural minor, D Dorian, and chromatic passing tones for jazzy flavor. And obviously when the key changes to Eb minor you just move everything up a half-step and then back down when it goes back to D minor. You'll get it!

in case that was a serious question... it's because it's dorian mode, which is a type of minor, but a much funkier sounding one than Aeolian mode...

Does the MDQ stay on the Ebm so briefly? I'm just wrapping my mind around the abrupt modulation from D Dorian to Eb Dorian when it (the mind) is whipsawed back into D Dorian. Or maybe I'm just high.

didn't say you should avoid theory, though it is not a substitute for a proper ear. The thing about 'understanding it naturally' includes the theory. Music theory is not that complicated if you don't want to go in depth about the original solfeggio-scale or some of the older ones... In any case, the most important about the theories is that you learn a language, you learn how to communicate music and that is important enough in many ways.

you can learn scales by teaching yourself too. All of my jazz knowledge is self taught. Most of the stuff I've learnt i've taught myself. You don't need a teacher to learn things!

not really, Studying music helps most people to understand music faster, but some doesn't need it, they just get it anyway :P It is all about the ear, nothing more. Though some people, educated in music get lost in the math of music and even if there product sounds crap, they can justify it with all kinds of equations. -Sure, it is one way to approach music, but in my opinion they miss the real depth of music that way. And Yes, I am educated in music, that is why I can say this...

This song is high in fiber with a low fat diet. Many can say they play it but only a few can sustain the level of "Groove" that this song carries.

lol no .. i disagree . some people just have a nack for it.. but it doesnt mean theory should be avoided. if the people who just got it naturally and understood the theory of what they were doing.. im sure they would produce way better outcomes
