Smudges on my Prints!
Head Strikes on my print edges!
Uneven Printing on my Borderless prints!
What in the world is causing this?
Well there are many reasons and variables.
But here is a little trick the Printer engineers
forgot to implement that would have solved and
prevented a lot of these problems.

A-MAZING!!! thank you, sir, you saved my life and my business!. i have been wasting so much time head cleaning because after every few pages the smudges keep coming back! i read somewhere it had something to do with the paper edges curling, but when you explained the book trick to close the gap between the paper and the paper tray it did the trick perfectly! no more ink smudges, not even a tiny bit!!! kudos to you sir! thank you so much!!! God bless and keep sharing your knowledge!

I was trying to print labels on my pro-100 and even though your video didn’t cover my issue, you said something about the borderless printing and it clicked in my head. I don’t even know why I kept selecting borderless printing cuz in my head I was thinking that the labels were outside the parameters of the reg print box. Then I realized, nope, they were in the confines of the print box. I wasted an entire package of labels (and this ink which we all know is not cheap) and it was all because I kept selecting borderless printing. It’s going to stretch your image out! Duhhhhh! Anyway you’re right about these things not being aligned properly

Thank you so much for this video! I've been having smudges on the edges of my printer. No matter how many times I clean it, it still curls the edge and leaves smudges underneath and on the edge. I tried putting a thin book, just enough for it to close the gap and it came out perfectly. I can now print my notes without smudges and curls on the edges.

Perhaps the 3/4" to 1" 'fall' is to allow for people who print multiple copies of one picture, or multiple prints at one time?
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 5 лет назад
Sure. But that would apply if I was using an all in one or even a PRO100 printing a bunch of 4x6s But the printers I and most of us use are form fine art photo printing single pri ts are a time and not for printing 25 in a row. I do a one at a time system and babysit as I one as I print so I don't end up throwing out a $5 print for something I could have easily avoided.

I'm the guy with the problem. Thanks for this great tip, I will try it. I'll also try printing with a border to see if that helps. I also spoke to Breathing Color about it and they said their canvas media tended to curl more than their paper media. I'd be willing to try their roll paper but they only make it in 17" width and wider. Won't work with the Pro 100. Thanks, again, Jose.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 5 лет назад
Cut pieces of canvas media can be very difficult to print on because they are very curly due to the fact that they're only coated on one side printers that utilize rolls can print with canvas flawlessly Almost 100% loading the rules can be a bit difficult though

I print panoramas on Fotospeed's excellent panoramic paper and I find I have to gently take up the feed as it passes through the printer due to the paper being so long. Not had any head strike issues but I'll try this technique of yours, elevating the paper as it exits just in case such an issue occurs. 😊
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 5 лет назад
I dont know about panos but it helps on certain papers to support the exiting print.
@tomcollier2444
@tomcollier2444 5 лет назад
The Pro 1 exit tray is angled upwards, so that by the time the print emerges more than about 75% the important leading edge is supported in an upward direction. In Custom Settings you can also tick a box to 'reduce paper abrasion' this is for heavyweight high ink drinking papers. The trade off is supposedly potentially less sharp images. I personally can see no difference! I've had my Pro 1 for five years and have never had any ink smudging. I mostly use 300+gsm papers. Once, and once only I heard what I believed to be a head strike, but there was no evidence of smudging or misalignment of the print.

When i print pictures on my canon printer the pictures come out wer and leaves little ink dots do you know how to fix that or why it is happening?
@melissarizo2804
@melissarizo2804 2 года назад
The way you explained the wave part of the paper and causing the smudging is exactly what’s happening to me. I tried different settings, what else can I do? This happens especially in my darker colors. Thank you!
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 2 года назад
Smudges are caused by mechanical reasons and not settings of anything related to inks or such. If the corners on the leading and trailing edges curl up you will very like get head strikes.

So if I had smudge does something need to be cleaned on the printer? Or run some type of print clean or check? Thank Jose
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 3 года назад
If they are on the entry edge of the paper it's your print head striking due to curling. But gunk does build up under print heads and sometimes a cleaning with the wet paper towel method will help. But if not done correctly will cause more harm than good.

@brianlspilner807
@brianlspilner807 4 года назад
@@cheo1949 yes there is this little bit of smearing that happens on the top right corner. It's like little smudges of black ink. Well tonight I tried a different paper. It's called canon luster pro. It printed with no smudges. I tried the glossy paper after again and it smudged the top corner again. I tried the luster pro paper after again and no smudges anywhere.
@brianlspilner807
@brianlspilner807 4 года назад
@@cheo1949 no rubbing. It comes out that way. I put a little stack of paper underneath like you showed but it didnt prevent it. I honestly think the paper is the issue.

What papers should I use with EPSON L1800 since it smudges on all the papers but plain 80/90g papers. I've tried like every posible preset for papers and printings, the color just dries too slow
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 4 года назад
L series printers are for documents on plain paper and not so much for Photos. Try some real Epson photo paper and see if it performs better. Smearing means the Ink is NOT compatible with the paper coating.

Fortunately for me the pro 2000 has a vacuum and I use roll 99% of the time. However I did see some smudging on the side of the roll and I wasn't printing boarderless, however it was a sheet feed job ,I did that so I don't loose the last meters from each roll since I can use it almost all when on manual feed .when I don't do that the roll at the end gets stuck on its tube and the print head goes over and over the same place till it destroys the image. Has anyone found a way to avoid that happening towards the end of the roll?
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 5 лет назад
The end is taped onto the roll. Not much one can do. I have the same situation on my P800 using roll paper.
@angelsmokee
@angelsmokee 5 лет назад
@@cheo1949 I actually have found a way to avoid this, I don't print the last meter and a half, cut the sheet and then insert that piece as a manual feed job. Works great so far! I still loose around 25cm but I think that's better than ruining every job towards the end of the roll, especially if it is a big print I get pretty frustrated 😜😮 I use canon's app called accounting manager to know how much roll I've used.

Your print head is striking the paper and scratching it. It could be from curling or buckling.
