I've said it before and I'll say it again. The London system is a perfect opening for someone to learn the chess principles and get to a playable middlegame without having to know theory but just plans. Also if you don't blindly play the moves but play as challenging as you can against some black responses (Nc3 against the king's indian and long castle for example) you can get attacking opportunities. Great video as usually 😊

I'm looking forward to your Chessable Caro-Kann course as well. And I hope after that you'll do a course on the Slav! I believe I've seen you play a couple of Slav games that you called the London in reverse. Those are very interesting. I agree with what you say about the London here, I just wish it wasn't so ridiculously popular. And it's only going to get more popular after the Ding win and chess influencers keep on suggesting it for players of all skill levels.

The London was my first opening. Once I got to 1200 - 1300 I started getting crushed using it, so I learned the English. Of course, I don't know the lines of the London well enough, but I like it because others hate playing against it.I suspect that after Ding using it, there will be a spike of use.

A nice change of pace would be the Jobava London. It offers a enough similarities to the London that it’s not totally alien, but it’s deceptively aggressive and fun to play.

Players will often get similar positions as black with the Caro Kann as he will get as white with the London System. The pawn structures are very similar. The same can be said about the Slav Defense against the Queen's Gambit. It's the same "pawn triangle" with the bishop outside the triangle.
@AlexBanzea
@AlexBanzea Год назад
yeah but bishop outside makes a huge difference
@DavidEmerling79

@@AlexBanzea This is why I could never understand why somebody would choose the French Defense over the Caro Kann. The Caro Kann tends to get more immediate equality whereas the French player has to be more patient before achieving equality - if ever. There is a lot of latent power in the French, however.

It’s not even necessarily the London, but I’ve started playing better ever since I started going 1. d4. Too many people at my level are too prepared for 1.e4 and very unprepared for 1.d4. I feel like most of my opponents just play kings Indian against d4 and they really don’t know what they’re doing because they study 1.e4 so much Then I do the Jobava and # them in 10 moves sometimes.

I came up to the 900+ rating, I bought your London course on chessable but its really long and I still have problems now with 900 rating players, I just can't remember all variations and I still blunder a lot. And bor, that was unnecessary report on the poor guy trying to beat you, come on, you are used to play for the last 40 seconds of your games and I don't know if they are desperate to play and you make them wait. Just saying, I'm using the french defense and almost always loose so I'll check the caro kahn now
