So. Where's the Foraging Update? | Hypixel Skyblock

The main issue with the update is that there's not enough communication between the devs and the player, we don't know how close we are to the release or what can we expect from the update

The foraging update has been postponed due to certant circumstances based around reserving forests lord knows we can't lose all the oxygen in skyblock

The foraging update better be the best update ever. It will probably bring back thousands of people who have quit, and have a lot of people play the game again.

I just wanna point out that people have no idea how many bugs this game truly has and how much of a pain it is to fix what needs to be fixed. I dont work in game development but I do work in QA for very large titles and the amount of issues that we report is genuinely insane. I cant speak for the rest of what was said but people really should cut the devs more slack when it comes to fixing bugs because I promise u that the ones I have worked on had FAR more people working on it both dev wise and QA wise and the game still had many many issues.

Some insight here, boot server version will be 1.19 and playable in 1.20, just like the whole network is booted 1.7 and playable in 1.8+ The Foraging region will introduce a bunch of new features not associated with Foraging and potentially a Fishing revamp/update in quick succession depending on what the remaining team will do... Main struggles are crashes and compatibility issues since in 1.12 the game changed a lot of plugin data and in 1.16 again and in 1.19 again... Originally Foraging was intended to push the entirety of skyblock to 1.16 but as you can probably tell preparations took so long we decided to boot 1.19 instead due to the massive stabilisations and fixes... Other issues were API queues, location ports, the data transfers, backend without end and Plugin updates and creations... Than there is storage, latency, compatibility, server load and next to all that too few people working on all of it... Excavation was originally planned to release as well after 1.0 but recently the updates just took so long and a project of over 400h of work has been scrapped so yea its been a struggle... It would really help if they hired more freelancers or pushed the server to be pay to play, because everything is just too expensive... Well I quit the dev team a few weeks ago because of a lot of things and Im glad I did

Even if Hypixel released very technical, even hyper-specific/pedantic, info on a regular basis, it'd be better than what they're doing now. It just feels like they aren't working on anything.

I definitely agree that they should be more transparent about what they are doing behind the scenes and the reasons why updates are getting delayed, but I don't think that you have the skills to determine how easy the update to newer versions should take.

oh yeah I’d love to point out as well that transfer packets or eu servers aren’t gonna be an end all fix even if they come to the server as long as isps route based on cheapest connection rather than latency ping is gonna be a forever problem

I can't say much, but I do know that Hypixel's staff team has increased over the months/past year. I am 'sort of' in contact with the Wynncraft Staff information and know that some have left for Hypixel. Now, it would be nice if they actually used their employees. I don't know if they're not getting payed, like.. standards. Salary == Amount/Quality of Work Also, I want to compare Wynncraft & Hypixel here. Salted (Main Creator of Wynncraft) spends everything he gets from the game, back into the game. He's very social with the staff members as well, which makes a connection with the team. Now, I do know that Hypixel has a lot of staff members for different gamemodes, but Skyblock generates so much revenue and the good green dollar bills, that Hypixel should be able to a) properly pay the team if that's the issue b) hire more employees, in both development, spokesperson, testers, etc. I don't know, I am quite knowladgeble in both games, and I am 2y sober from Skyblock. I just wish that they took this gamemode seriously, yeah, some might do, but it doesn't really show like it. Well, at least compared to Wynn. Anyway, done with my rant. Wanted to get that out, have been thinking about this for a while.

i feel like a good foraging update tip could be that they add a boss where you have to fight it with a good axe and the amount of ''blocks'' you broke you get like x100 xp (kinda)

I think people are severly underestimating the amount of work updating from 1.8 to 1.21 is going to be. Not only are they years apart in release dates, but the source code of the game and the APIs surrounding it has changed a MASSIVE amount during this time. One example of massive changes are packets, which play a MAJOR part in the entirety of not only Skyblock, but also Hypixel itself, and most likely every other Minecraft server today. On another note, one reason it could be taking so long is because comparing performance between 1.8 and 1.21, it's a massive difference. They would have to basically hyperoptimize their code if they want to acceive even a fraction of the playability they have today (which is already not very good in some instances). And there's always the possibility of bringing new game breaking bugs or reintroducing old ones with this change. Another major part is that they have to convert a lot of the frontend and backend code (as I mentioned) and Skyblock itself, contains millions, if not even tens of millions of lines of code. Basically what I'm getting at is that what they have in the blog post with all the screenshots and what not, the fact that they already have a somewhat playable version is no short of a miracle, they've done an amazing job working on other parts of the game whilst continuing to work on the foraging update at the same time. The Admins mentioned a while ago that they are focusing on the first island of the update, which sounds like the update will only include 1 island, and the other islands are delayed to another update, similar to the Rift. They probably haven't given us progress on the update because that would make people very disappointed

I've had almost 200M invested in various foraging items for 2 YEARS

Couldn't agree more, look at games like Tower Unite, Phasmophobia, Jackbox Games and Stardew Valley etc... All of these games at some point in time have had solid and planned out road map dividing the year into quarters and using public tools such as trello to openly show the community what is expected to release in certain timeframes and, they could just remove something from the trello if its not working or if they are too unsure. I mean they don't even release game update patch notes until an hour after most updates roll showing that pretty much every update (Unless seen on Alpha, which usually gets the update to release very soon after anyway) is a surprise to the players. Hopefully from this video they get a community manager from all the money they're making excess from firesales to talk and engage with the community.

One of the main reasons i quit sb was because of lack of updates and repeated tasks for skills , i just logged in today to see what's up and it felt the same , the admins first of all do take a lot of time for updates then secondly all the updates we received have come with various bugs and if not bugs the server reliability issues. the admins really need to improve as there is already a lot of competitions spiraling in term of other successful servers , the have to make the swap from 1.8.9 because yeah the game mode it self is dying. I am not saying we need more big updates very fast but the admins do have to cope to the player base of the game if not i don't see the game or even the server surviving for much longer. The have had more than enough time for this and the people who seek out that there might be some staff issues , if hypixel does not focus on the game that runs their server wtf are they even doing?

I don't mind that the update is taking so long. But there are so many aspects of the game of need of an update (Fishing 60, alchemy60/perhaps a revamp, all other t5 slayer bosses, etc) that they maybe could work on that, instead of QOL stuff noone asked for.

I think the comparison to build battle is unfair, as the foraging update will mean interactions between people with blocks/items from different versions; Which means both extra backend headache and decisions on how things get displayed to players on 1.8.9.

Communication with the player base is the biggest problem with the devs in skyblock, when they release foraging either on the main server or on alpha, there will likely be features that the player base might not like and the admins will change or remove, which could have been avoided if they introduced some of the ideas before and asked for feedback on said changes.

I get really excited when rail is at least a little critical of the devs because I know minikloon is subbed to rail, one of his few subscriptions. I always hope it is a wake up call to get their shut together and keep the game from declining.

My conspiracy theory is that the admins have had multiple ideas for the foraging update that they themselves killed because they feared community backlash. Maybe it’s time to informally get a bunch of Hypixel Skyblock YTers together and create a thread/poll/whatever to get players to vote for what they want. I feel if the players directly tell admins what they’re hoping for, it’ll give them guidance and help the foraging update actually drop.

With the 100k plus a week they are currently making feom firesales (they have tome to develop those) youd have hoped they could aee fit to split the team or even add to it so that whilst some people work on the bug fixes others work soley on new content. As for a community manager, its such a no brainer except it requires the company to be honest with the manager so that they dint make pronises the developers aren't going to be able to keep... Otherwise feustration actually gets worse not least for the poor community manager who invariably gets blamed by the community for stuff beyond their control...😊

I still think that they'll release it in the 1.21 update. Yes they said 1.19, but that was before knowing the transfer packets were gonna be released in 1.21 . They'll surely wait for the 1.21 and then start migrating all the items and stuff to 1.21 . Why would they migrate to 1.19 just to update to 1.21 later? That seems like a really big hustle, waste of time and potential bugs, crashes, dupes and wipes. So I still think they'll wait for the 1.21 . Not saying that it is going to release when 1.21, just that they'll start with the coding stuff once it releases.

Hypixel skyblock will officially be out of beta after 7 days to die lol. Really poor communication with the community in the past couple years. The dev cycle for them is abysmal, at best. considering the amount of money they have to work with (Stardew valley, with a way smaller team has had more consistent and imo, game-changing updates. even when the creator was doing it alone). I love the concept of hypixel skyblock, but lack of updates. as well as poor decisions starting to snowball, is really making me want to quit. On top of the really weird/broken progression, as well as most items in collections/slayers being utterly useless/obsolete. Didn't mean to go on a rant in the comments, just hard seeing something with so much potential go down this route. Where the devs/staff only seem to care about player retention and generating revenue. And not quality of product, nor really any meaningful player expression/freedom. I've started comparing hypixel devs to triple A/mobile devs in that way, really. which is sad.

Only anti-QoL updates from now on baby woooooo 20 new pet skins a month, and refusal to fix any of the nerfs to farms wooooooo Everyone called this player bleed out before it happened and staff are too busy designing pets, best minecraft mmorpg weeeeeee!
