1 week after I moved in my cookie cutter house , it snowed. Covered in snow, all the houses looked alike!! I rode slowly past each one and pushed my garage door opener to see which door went up - it was the only way I could identify which soulless little box was mine. So sad.

I’m so sorry to hear about The Goo. I know how tough it is loosing a pup that’s been with you for nearly half of your existence! If The Goo was anything like my Lacy, I’m sure she’s in doggy heaven getting after anyone breaking the rules :)

The backsplash isn't just for water though, it's for all kitchen messes. I actually just put up a backsplash because the general grease and splatter from cooking was soaking into the paint.

I never thought about the sidewalk though. Next project is replacing the horrible builder grade stainless steel sink, faucet and pendant lighting. Your content is enjoyable and helpful.

When I heard about The Goo, I was so worried that you were in LA. I’m glad to hear that you were able to spend time with her before she left you. I don’t know why I was so invested, but pups seem to do that to me. I hope your mind is filled with the best memories of her. ❤️

HOA is shaking in their boots

We swapped a very ugly sliding glass door for vintage French doors in my home, and it's now my favorite feature. They're interior doors, so weatherproofing wasn't an issue. The doors were cheap off marketplace, but the actual DIY swap was.... an adventure. But worth it!

Honestly, after 23 years in our room we've done a lot of the items you've mentioned one by one. Now everyone says how unique our house is inside and out.

Something that I love, is adding actual working shutters. It immediately makes the home look better imo.

This is perfect for military homes too! We are in military housing in Key West and they all look the same. Thank you for all the tips. I can't change too much but we can definitely plant around our home.

We need a cement walk way in MN so we can shovel snow. Shoveling cobblestones is impossible. Also, many cookie cutter homes are part of HOAs that limit landscaping and facade freedoms.

Paige, I am so sorry about The Goo. Everyone could tell that you loved them so. The passing of a pet is so hard. I often try to remember the Tenysen quote “‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”

I lived without a back splash and the wall got water damage. I also didn't have a dishwasher and was washing by hand so thats something to consider.

i think this is a great video to watch when you are looking for a home, too. If you're touring homes you can see what might be making the space feel dated and know what's easy to upgrade or replace.

Our new home’s kitchen has beige granite with deep purple flecks. Yes, PURPLE. It’s nothing we would ever chose, but it is unique and there’s so much of it that replacing with new would be astronomical in cost. Oh Paige….I went from smiling at your comment about the builder who owned half the town, to the news about Goo. I’m so sorry for your loss. I have had times when I thought “why the fuck is all this happening to me?” and it’s tough. Losing a pet is right up there with going through a divorce, or losing your job. Things got easier for me, not great😄, but easier. It will for you too.

A point on the landscaping note but on top of not over manicuring your plants, have lots and lots of native pollinating plants! Not only are these normally always beautiful but they're helpful for the local pollinating populations and therefore SO much better for the environment! One of the things contributing to bees dying off is not local populations not having access to their native plants. On a side note though, so sorry to hear about the Goo. For her to have lived a life where she was so loved by her humans is beautiful

Never saw myself purchasing a subdivision home because I have always loved the character of older homes- but alas! In some ways I’m happy that my 30 year old home does not have the problems that come with a 100 year old home, but I put a lot of mental energy into making it look unique or thinking of ways to bring character and warmth in. I started by painting the front door chartreuse and ripping out the boxwood bushes. It’s going to be a long process but it’s all about changing the perspective and looking at it like a challenge- thanks for this video!

Thank you!!! This just gave me a boost! We just changed our front door and got some paving stones to fix/finish our path!!! We stripped our deck and stained is natural and it looks awesome! Back splash is down, boob lights gone! We’re on the fence about painting our wood trim and adding new molding/trim but there is no rush because money doesn’t grow on trees. I’m delighted to get the positive reinforcement, and know we’re moving in the right direction 😀

The Goo was part of the spirit of your videos and part of your life story too. She had some kind of a bad humor a little bit like you seem to have sometimes, but a lovable bad humor, which I always appreciate and it makes me smile. Our dogs or pets have one big defect : their lives are too short and they die too soon. But they teach us the path to some kind of detachment. Enjoy France and Europe, even if climate change is in action there right now. Take care.

When I see rows and rows of track homes that all look the same reminds me how blessed I am to be born and raised in San Francisco. Good advice on the landscaping. I think some of the trees I see around that all have those shaved swirls and shapes and the bushes might be a generational trend for those in a certain age bracket

Putting our pets down is the hard part of having them but having them is so fulfilling that it's worth it!💞🤗 I frickin HATE our orangy deck but it's piles and piles of paint and would take so much work to change to stain now but I really wish we could. I feel like stained decks look so much better.

I love this. I also think all of these features add significant value to your home. If you decide to sell, you can list it for a bigger price than the standard cookie cutter across the street.

First of all I am so sorry about your loss. As for your tips, I agree with most of them except the one about fake trims and collums. One thing I really don't like more than anything is when something is pretending to be something that it is not. Its like fake plants to me. Never mind, enjoy your time in Europe, times are gonna get better! :)
