I've had my 4th gen prelude for almost 20 years. It was my daily for 15 years straight. It's currently at 425k+ miles...not bad for a 92 with the sohc. I changed the trans last year bc it finally went out, I put the lsd t2t4 in it. I'll be doing the engine swap as I give it another go for wheels, paint, suspension and interior work. i have a honda prelude from 2001 a 2.2 h22c 210 HP with the automatic, and it is completely reliable. I now have 320.000 kilometers on it, and shifts butter smooth. Like with everything else on a car, you need to maintain the auto trans to, most often that gets neglected. Change the ATF and Filter every 60-70.000 kilometers, and you'll have no problems with your automatic transmission.

I love my manual transmission red 5th gen 99 Honda Prelude. I bought it about 2 years ago with about 165k miles on it. It has 170k miles on it right now. Almost completely stock, only thing I've done is change the interior & license plate lights to LEDs. Swapped out the stock radio to a almost button-less clean looking Pioneer touch screen unit while snaking a discreet microphone for Bluetooth calls behind the dash, cluster/A pillar, ceiling, and added the SH trim stock spoiler. I want to replace the oxidized headlights with the same stock ones & put in white HIDs and paint the side & back skirts to make it look like the SH trim and be done with the car. If I could splurge, I'd paint the whole thing black. It'll look just like the SH without all the problems the 4-wheel steering had. When I purchased the car, yes I had to replace the timing belt, it was split in half long ways. Yes, the paint fades. I can tell that whoever had it before did a cheap paint job due to clear coat fading on a fender, the roof, side view mirrors, door handles, & trunk, and everywhere else looking good, but chipping away, meaning a recent, but cheap paint job. Oh, and those H22A engines burn oil quite a bit, and I changed out all the gaskets and seals. Last thing to warn everyone; with the manual transmissions, the synchro gears have known issues and will grind at high RPMs. Mine does it between going from any gear at a high RPM to 5th gear. Still love the car. Apparently its a known defect that I've seen on forums happen to with only 20k miles on it so its best just to live with it.

Still one of my favorite car builds I've done for a friend. 2000 with full bolt ons, closed deck jdm h22 that I refreshed, mail order tune and a Jackson Racing supercharger to top it off. Awesome daily driver that would smoke mustangs all day

I had my '92 prelude for little under a year. I loved it so much. I had so many plans, then some lady felt the need to break check me on the highway and I ended up going 45 mph into her three inch tow hitch. Rip little 'Lude..

My first car was an 88 Prelude 2.0si in the cursed Y-49 Barbados Yellow over Black interior. I bought it in 1996 for 1,250 bucks and it had 220,000 miles on it. I fixed it up as it was slammed on cut springs and I threw a header on it since it was flat AF from being slammered. I drove it for a year putting another 10k miles on it and sold it for 4k. I loved that car but I made a killing off of it. That started me off on my 1 car per year trip I did for about 8 years. I've now had over 20 cars and still love the way the Prelude drove. Although my newest car is my Favorite and I still have an 89 civic that I can drive as well. Never left the Honda game, just added to it.

Just bought one after a lot if work to save up money(coming from Serbia,a fairly poor country where buying a sportscarof any kind or class is a bit of a hassle) Mine is 5th gen, year 2000, 2.0i. 133hp, manual. It is perfect, I am in love. Got it with a cracked left headlight cover and a bit of tail light humidity decay problem as you mentioned.The engine still runs on factory-spec oil density, runs and sounds like clockwork, enough said. Mechanical parts are indeed cheap and not so hard to find, but I am gonna have an adventure replacing that headlight. It has an amazing below-100k miles / 146k km mileage. The interior is perfect, all the fancy electronics work, I am looking forward to years of love😊

Prelude will always get so much more respect than the civic as well. ALWAYS get compliments on my 4th gen when I take it somewhere. Also a lot of people don't know what it is and think its rear wheel drive because the styling is so damn gorgeous. Not to mention the handling and diving feel is incredible.

Anyone who sees this- the 88-91 prelude’s mechanical 4WS has the potential to be a literal cheat code on the track. It moves the wheels in the same direction minimizing understeer but also canceling oversteer out as well. If you put real meaty tires and a turbo on it, the 3rd gen prelude is a track demon.

Had a 97 auto prelude... the engine was going out, well kinda, it smoked and would take about 1 quart of oil a weekish... trans was strong, just change the fluid often... it had 160k-170k miles... also they are extremely front heavy... and yes water would get inside into the trunk which actually got to the back seat, that’s when I noticed it lol

I drove a 5th gen for about 6 years, and the car was already 10 years old when I got it. While it doesn't have nearly the torque of my 10th gen Accord, it was a fun little car to drive, and the high redline made up for the lack of torque. And absolutely, the cars are reliable if you take care of the basic stuff. I had mine up to 200k when I gave it up and the thing still ran like butter.

I have a 2001 Honda prelude, and I've owned it for about 1 year and I got it for 600$ but the catch was that I had to get the transmission rebuilt and it cost me 1500$ to get it done, but the car is extremely fun, I have an automatic transmission in it sadly which at the time I didn't know how to drive manual but now I do😑, but the thing is that it's a good car in general, the H22 is a hell of a fun engine and reliable when it comes to gas

I bought a 97 SH back in 2002. Been daily driving it for almost 20 yrs and while the paint is faded and she's not fast by today's standards, she's still fun in the corners and puts a smile on my face. Except for the leaky trunk, oil burning, and rickety shocks, she's been reliable and running on almost all factory original parts (beyond consumables). Even the AC still blows cold with the original compressor and freon. It isn't worth much and the thing refuses to die, so I'm keeping her.
@Shadowfeaux
@Shadowfeaux 3 года назад
Yea.... I kinda felt this way until I had the opportunity to get one. Bought a 99 SH with 78k about 4 years ago. Looked pretty clean and seemed great for the first few months. Then the curse hit. Struts died, exhaust fell off, learned the trunk leaked water into it, axle boots tore, oil leaking from all the seals, power steering lines rusted out, etc. (Granted I know this is more lack of care by previous owners). Unfortunately dont have much space to do a lot of work myself.... so shelled out near $10k over another 2.5 years to try to save it. At 146k miles currently too. Basically havent made any progress. Oh, and SH requires parts specifically for it, which is much harder to find. (But damn the ATTS def makes it drive well) I do love it, and will regret letting it go since it’s such a fun car to drive and very unique looking, but I’ll stick with dumping my $ into my S2000 instead.
