Nobody cared because of the Acura Integra. The Integra was a great car. The 91 Integra was so awesome and that is just the LS. I have never even been in a GSR. But the LS was so good. Those long gears really made you feel how good that B18 was at high RPMs.

@@HellHunter00 My fourth gen Prelude was also my first new car, back in the winter of 1995. I felt such an increase of status when I parked that beauty at my parent’s driveway. My coworkers at the Florida Department of Children and Families loved that car when I parked it in that parking lot in 1997. Paid it off in late 2000. I had that car during every IT job I had, during the late 90’s/early 2000s IT boom.

@nunyabusiness5075
@nunyabusiness5075 2 месяца назад
Mine used to get warped rotors pretty quick, likely due to the commute I had. It had some high speed highway, then stop and go highway and then a congested long uphill that you had to use your brakes on so you didn't roll back. So basically you had to stand on your brakes after getting them good and hot.

i own a 97’ 5th gen manual prelude i bought in 2017 Ontario /L.A . i constantly get asked if i “sell it” & i always say NO ! i saved up $1 by $1 in high school just to get the car i wanted . By this , i had observed many of honda cars that most typical people get like the EG/EK ( which i call mini egors ) , Civics , RSX’s , Del Sol’s , integras , bla bla . i wanted something different & unique ! also to mention preludes aren’t even seen often so when im out in the street i always get necks broken & its usually older heads telling me they like my car & saying they wish they got it when they were younger. Preludes are a gem so i told myself im never letting my baby go no matter if im old . ill be old & still have the prelude you wanted 😂 ahh such a great car despite its oil burning issue

Nice summary. Honda learned what Chrysler did with K car based Coupes, Ford did with the Probe, Mazda did with the 626 Coupe, and Toyota did with the last front drive Celica. And Lancia did with the Gamma Coupe. Under-steering front drive and big fours don't make great Speciality Coupes. Fords Mustang and Chevs Camaro and Pontiacs Firebird offered all the fire and brimstone with better recognition and reasonable cost.

The big windows of the second Gen were because the beltine was so low. If they were made proportionate no one would fit in the car. That said, it was the smoothest, best handling, most entertaining 13/10 scale go-kart ever created. I went toe to toe with a 79 4 speed Z28 and we were dead matched on the highway but I had the edge on the twisties.

You didn't mention there was Prelude with 4 wheel steering. Yes the rear steered too. The late '80s model used double Keihin carbs, then they switched to multipoint FI and added VTEC in 4th gen and suddenly the car was a rocket. One of the nicest looking Honda machines.

3:33 Correction, double wishbone suspension is on hardly any new cars. Even honda went back to economy strut suspension. That is a HUGE difference in handling. 7:30 VTEC is for getting a larger powerband, aka, more power down low, not peak power. Peak hp is not affected that much, but does get a bit better than economy tuning alone allows. Too bad they killed the integra after 2001. The new one is a civic with a body kit, and lacks even the double wishbone suspension that made the OG special. Honda has become a joke.

The old Vtec kicked in around 6k RPM. The current one is 3 stage optimized for midband performance. My friends '96 Type R Vtec kicks at high RPMs, but once he had 2000 Civic build specifically for track - Type R power plant with supercharger. It was as fast as 911. I knew physics Ph.D, specializing in acoustic and DSP. He still owns turbocharger Type R build for track. And then, people also used Prelude engines in Civics or various head swaps to get more juice.

The one main drawback about the prelude that he forgets to mention is that these things were fucking BOATS. The 3rd gen cars almost weighed about 3,000lbs with the 4th gen coming at more than 2,800lbs. Compare that to a civic of the same year which weigh about 500-600lbs lighter, it was easy for people to make civics a track car rather then the prelude. Honestly, i see the prelude as more of a luxury sports car that just became too overweight imo. So just a little extra fact for ya

good video. My 2nd car was a 1981 prelude that i bought in 1988. I slammed it to the ground by cutting the springs on it. It became nicknamed the bouncer, but it looked cool that low. This was the time of Mini Truckin, so there were very few lowered import cars back then.

Awesome video, just a few things: the 3rd Gen prelude came out before the NSX, so it’s a bit more that the nsx borrowed from the prelude, not the other way around. Also most 3rd gens had the 2.0L b20a engine that made 135hp, but some of the later production ones had the 2.1L b21a which made 140hp. Other than that you were spot on with everything and I loved the video!

Back in 2000 I was in college and my fraternity did a cat wash. This mid-20s guy pulled up in a fully loaded last gen Prelude SI with the manumatic transmission. He let me pull it from the wash bay to the area we were hand drying and I was blown away in that 15-20 seconds. I always liked the Prelude but after that they had a special place in my heart. Never had one, but wouldn't mind getting one!

I loved my old '84 Prelude. It was the first Honda I ever bought. Now I'm on my 4th Honda and will likely keep it for a long time. I wouldn't mind if they brought back the Prelude again, but with the current supply chain shortages, I'm sure it won't be easy to make it very affordable.

They would overengineer the thing and check too many boxes... hybrid, AWD, DCT or CVT with no manual option for the US, every creature comfort imaginable, and a long list of unimpressive emissions control crap. The best one could hope for is a transplant powertrain directly from the Civic Si.

One of my favourite cars. Two of my buddies had one. Handled like crazy, solid feeling controls, and interior, sleek, flat undercarriage. The twin carb engine performed, and sounded awesome. His ‘86 was as tough as nails, and he bought it third hand. The guy he bought it from over 20 years ago, says it was his favourite car to this day.

I’ve owned 2 5th gen preludes now, a type s and type sh. I personally think these cars are performance bargains if you can scoop up a clean one for around 5k. Before the k series became the k series the h22 was the most coveted Honda swap you could do since it was the “big block” motor. Parts are cheap although a little more scarce then your average civic or Miata but if you look in the right places they’re certainly there.
@MrKnoxguy101
@MrKnoxguy101 2 года назад
Yeah.. the H22’s performance was quite uncommon back when the 5th gen Prelude was new. I had a 97 GSX Eclipse back in the day, and when you compare factory tuned performance of those two cars, the 4G motor was a turbocharged 2 liter boasting 210 hp and could not pull away from a Prelude. Some days the Eclipse ran better than others (temperamental turbo).. the Prelude’s H22 was more consistent needless to say. I’ve seen that engine swapped into 4th gen Accords and it literally turned the car into a sleeper. Consistent low 8 second passes in the 8th mile. Pretty impressive.

Just as an addition of info for anyone interested. The 2G came in 2 versions which are both seen in the video. The Si and the DX. The Si had a single cam injection engine with 110hp and the DX a single cam carbed engine which produced 100hp. At least for the US. The japanese market also got a double cam Fi engine. The "first" B-engine from Honda and it produced a (for that time) whoping 160hp! The european market got a down tuned version of that with approx 140hp😄

For me I think it was the HRN216VKA. The performance that thing had was unmatched by anything of its generation. Great cornering. weight distribution was near 50/50. The Mid mounted motor really helped the balance. and Honda reliability to top it all off. They would run forever if you took care of them.

As first Gen Prelude owner, I’m glad to see someone talking about it, even though it wasn’t talked about in the best way haha Quick note ln the first gen’s engine: in Europe we had a 1.6L 80hp engine, and in Japan they got the 1.8L 90hp, so 15hp more than in the US, not that much, but for a 850-900kg car it’s nice !
