At start I found it a little ugly because of that grille, now it's really grown on me and I love that ypu can see the inspiration from the 240,60,80z. Wish it was going to UK
I fell in love with Z's almost 30 years ago when my Dad started working at a Nissan dealer. He brought home a lightly used black 300zx TT and I was in love. It continued the only part of our relationship that stood up. He passed before the reveal. Seeing the Z reveal by Nissan I was actually in tears. One way or another I'll end up with one, just hating the mark up.
When did it become so popular to criticize ever part of new sports cars. This is why we didn’t get new sports cars for the longest. It’s gonna be the downfall of the car community.
@@krisreyes2434 that's more because of inflation..the cost of eveything goes up. So back to the point - hating seems like the easy band wagon to for everyone to jump on.
@@bynjei2530 I mean that’s not entirely true though, within the US at least, as the productivity of middle class workers has gone up (ie they’re getting more done for their bosses so their bosses can make money) pay for those same workers has not gone up, meaning middle and lower class workers on average have less money for things like sports cars (this is a point that Jason Cammisa brought up in his Z video for Hagerty)… So while your right in saying that hard work pays off, there’s also a point to be made that as our society has modernized hard work is paying off much less than before…
For people that don't like hearing that Nissan revised almost 80% of the existing parts to be better, here's a couple or so points to keep in mind. 1. The R35 GT-R changed a TON of times and was updated constantly almost every year to be better and faster since the first version. For over a decade, Nissan did nothing but update the GT-R. Why? For one, it saves a TON of money. Why develop a whole new platform, when what you currently have, is literally matching competition still? Update what can help the car be better and better, and, do minor updates on the inside and outside to keep it relevant. You save tons of money while also offering a badass vehicle. 2. This allowed Nissan to KEEP the Z alive. Toyota, the biggest vehicle manufacturer in the world, said that it's "too expensive" to develop a sports car on their own. What? They redevelop cars constantly and update them constantly. The GR Yaris and GR Corolla are not going to be high sellers, yet they made them anyways. Then, we have 2 GR86's that are completely the same apart from the exterior looks and interior options. The Supra is an amazing vehicle, but they needed BMW's help which I absolutely call bs on. Meanwhile, Nissan uses what they have (which was already a fantastic sports car for the money) and updated it to be modern, look more like a classic Z, and offer an amazing value for what you get. Who cares if the bones are the same? Who cares if the door and door panel are from the 370Z? Would you rather have pure plastic panels or soft touch plastics? It's completely asinine that people are complaining about something they won't even own anyways and/or have zero understanding on how important the Z is to the car enthusiast community.
This is exactly it. Its more cost efficient to continuously refine a current design than develop a new one. Now we have an enthusiast’s vehicle whose base model makes 400 whp and looks damn sharp doing it. I look forward to owning a Z one day and refining it further with aftermarket help. Good luck my fellow enthusiasts.
NGL, I've been dreaming of this car since I heard it was in the making and I'm super hyped for it. I won't have the money on launch, but I do plan on this being the first new car I buy
If there were two be any new sports car I would want it's this. I feel like it's the perfect balance of new and old, flashy but enough to where it's ugly. And good power for what you pay for
This is one of those cars that looks better in person. The hips and a$$ being the best view imo. FYI- the trans is "relatively" new for Nissan and has been used in like 1-2 trucks/suvs fairly reliably. I want to say it is Merc sources via Jatco. The manual will be close to what a lot of Nissan/Infiniti owners are familiar with (not the best but very far from the worst). Also, expect big aftermarket support- same engine in Q50/60 has been shown to dip in the 9s-10s. But out of the gate expect easy high 11's/low 12's with minimal to moderate tune/parts. Visit a site like Z1 to gauge an idea of what to expect.
I feel the same, even before I had one. Such a look all it’s own. When I first saw one in 2009 it became the dream car - last year I bought it. When you love something that long and none of the new stuff over 10 years changed your aim, just buy it haha.
I agree too. The new Z is nice but I'm not in love with it like I am my 370z. That being said though, I will likely test drive it just to gain a first hand perspective.
I'll be honest, at first I was not interested in this launch at all because as a RSX-S owner I was hyped about the Integra launch. Well, after seeing the new teggy I am 100% onboard with the Z. This thing is SICK.
I’ve been waiting on this car ever since rumors and concepts came out years ago. Currently we are weeks away before the new z starts showing up at dealerships and I think my opinion on it has changed. At first I thought about getting my hands on the 1st year production model but thought about it and it would be a better and safer choice to wait at least the first 2-3 years. Gives plenty of time for many mods to be introduced to the martlet specially body kits. Also by then hopefully we have the nismo version out. I agree with Alex, the manual would be the best option to go with, we don’t know what issues the automatic transmission will have. We just gotta wait and see, in case I do go for it I already got a specific whee set up and look. Car would definitely look good wrapped in jade Millenium green with either black or bronze/champagne colored wheels, a couple of carbon fiber pieces, bagged and called it a day.
As a MKIV Supra owner ... i was excited to hear about the new MKV, that is until we heard that BMW was making it, then i lost all interest in it. As a 300ZX and S14 chassis owner, this Z is NICE .. I will go for the auto because its just easier and i have NO plans to beat the shit out of it. My S14 and my 300ZX are manual, my Supra and Genesis are Automatic. Both have their plus and minus but at the end of the day, the automatic is just SO MUCH easier. And again, my goal is not to beat on the Z but to enjoy the drive and i don't need a manual to enjoy it.
@@ACommenterOnRU-vid the MKV is actually a pretty nice ride but everyone has different taste, though it does feel pretty much like driving a bmw. Everyone has their preferences when it comes to which type of transmission to go with. The automatic tends to be a lot more comfortable if you happen to live in big cities with lots of traffic. Like you said they both have their pros and cons we don’t know what kind of problems the 1st year lot will have. Hopefully nothing major or otherwise it’ll take the first 2-3 years to maybe address some of the potential problems. The design, both the interior and exterior are refreshing but there is one major issue that can have an impact on the new z. That is going to be its price and the mark ups at dealers. The new z base model is already 11k more expensive than the predecessor. The nismo hasn’t even been announced yet but with the way it’s going I won’t even be surprise if it has a price tag of like 60-65k. Prices along may cause some potential buyers to skip the vehicle for good or at least for a couple of years. With how the market is it’s actually a bad idea. Regardless, there’s going to be people who buy the z to flip it for a quick buck. It happened with cars such as the Civic type r, the MKV and with the c8 corvette. The question is, how much are these mark ups are going to be. That’s why waiting a year or two doesn’t sound so bad right. Who knows maybe by then things go back to normal with the car market and we may even start seeing rebates and discounts on vehicles. My last advice is that if you do decide to buy one, shop around and if you can find a dealer that does MSRP then go for it. Don’t be the reason guys why the dealer is having a pizza party the following day lol cuz they manage to sell you a car for 10k+ over what it’s worth.
my only argument to that is that if you have a day 1, you have some time to figure out what you do and dont like, as well as the ability to let most of your warranty run down without adding mods to the mix
The 370z's engine, VQ37VHR, doesn't see a significant bump in the peak torque at any particular rpm, as the torque curve is fairly flat across the rev range. This was by design with the VVEL system that seeks to maintain a high volumetric efficiency across a wide range of rpm. If you need more torque at the rear wheels you simply downshift, although with the large displacement high-compression NA engine in the 370Z you still get decent instantaneous performance by just stepping on the pedal.
People bash the Z for being a parts bin car, well YEA its keeping to its heritage and using 3 generations of Z to build this one ... They didn't hide it, they specifically made it this way .. Look at the Zupra ... Transgender Supra at that. Its also a parts bin car. BMW Z4 chassis, BMW M240i B58 engine, BMW X5 interior, BMW suspension, and the new manual is parted out from 4 different BMW transmissions .... i mean, talk about parts bin car and transmission ...
@humble harambe z has better looks AND better performance than the zupra. Why fix what’s not broken? Over 80% of parts used are brand new. Way to prove you know nothing about cars. Maybe find a new hobby 😁
@@FitmentIndustries And what is that position? Too many acronyms in America. That’s why Acura end up with CL, RSX, TL and all that crap. Lol Thank you guys for being so serviceable.
The Nissan Z is definitely like being the tallest midget. It's still a midget though. Haha. Anyway, you are the best fitment Industry host. Hope to see more videos with your reviews.
it all depends on how you will have fun in it. Are you the drifter ? are you rally ?? Are you auto cross ?? Or are you the straight line horsepower monster ?
I love my new Z, so does everyone else. I’ve driven plenty of nice cars, I’ve never gotten the attention that the Z gets. When I pull into meets, there will be 10 lambos and 20 bmws, I’m the only one.. I have seen one other Z, but even now, you won’t see them often.
Please update the fitment industry website to display a larger image of the cars? The current picture is too small, making it difficult to see the wheel setup clearly
The 370z was never really down on torque. Yeah it made peak torque at 5400 rpm. But what about before that? From 2500-6000 rpm the torque curve is actually quite flat.
@@vanislesam some have issues in 18. Not confirmed if they fixed in 19 ish but they figured it out in 20+. Time and mileage will tell honestly. Half of it is that and half of it is improper maintenance
@@tleoipl37 well if you see the front end of that Z and how large it is, thats for cooling. It has dedicated front mount engine oil cooler, transmission oil cooler and an air to air cooler. The cooling or over heat issues are gone. From what i read the turbo's are different. Hargerty also claimed the VR30 in the Red sports has massive issues from over heat and throwing rods after being pushed. They took the Z and did MULTIPLE back to back 0-100 mph runs and back to 0 and had NO over heat at all. He said they pushed it hard and never over heated where as the RS VR30 would either over heat or blow an engine which is why the vr30 got such a bad rap ... But they claim this "revised" VR30 in the Z has been fixed.
10 Year vet here- and i do have to say that within all of the experience points I've accumulated throughout the years, this has to be one of the most rarer types I've ever seen. There's been speculation about it and whether or not I like to think on it as apose to it being the car of the year in my eyes or to anybody that sees it BUT with all do respect I would have to, ultimately, speculate any judgement on it and base it off of that. If you've read this far then I hope you're really confused lmao. In all seriousness, I'm contemplating whether to get the auto or manual.
When comes to newer cars you ride a fine line between mods and leaving it stock, biggest thing right now is that we don't know how far you can push the stock components.
My issue at the end of the day. By the time the two got compared the 2SS 1LE was a few thousand cheaper than a fully loaded Z (for me. There’s discounts I get) so the Cumaro won. I’m salty they didn’t allow that custom plate I was hoping I could slip it by.
It’s definitely on my short list. I have a Q60 with some bolt-ons. I really like it but wish it was a little sportier & I had more control over the transmission. With every manufacturer seemingly headed to EVs only I think it’s a car I could hold onto forever
Exactly my thinking. I’m on the wait list for my local stealership to order the new Z. This is essentially final call for manual ICE sports cars, so I can see it being my “forever car.”
Not the biggest fan of the looks but i respect that it looks a lot like the old Z's. Its still a ripoff, the car is on the same Nissan FM platform that was already used in the 350Z and debuted in 2001. Yeah they surely made improvements over the years but all the basics of the platform are still over 20 years old.
I'd give it a 6, mostly because the performance is there for the price. I'm still not a fan of the overall design though, it seems so... Bland. When I was considering trading my GR Supra in for the new manual, I was giving some thought to just getting the Z instead. What ultimately turned me away was the fact that even entry level sports cars like the Miata or BRZ have more personality in their aesthetics. Yea yea, call the Supra ugly if you want, I however think it's beautiful. Either way though, a wise man once said the worst thing you can be is boring, and the Supra's devisive styling gets looks. I just don't get that vibe from the Z, aside from the brave grille they gave it I suppose.
It’s not ugly it’s just not a Supra it’s a bmw lol. But it’s still a great car tho if you where gonna trade it in I’d trade it in for the manual Supra they have coming out.
Although I do like the new Z I just wish it was closer to the Z32 300zx in style. Not just another 240z style because it's already been done before aka 350z.
I think the car is great. I've been keeping tabs on it since I first heard of it and the Grill on the proto was kind of off but I still liked it overall. This is gonna be a a great car but if this was to be the last ICE Z I think Nissan shouldve gone all the way like Chevy did with putting a corvette engine in the Camaro and put the last GTR engine in it. Then again that could be something they do with the Nismo. I do think sound had something to do with it though because the VR30 sounds more like the VQs(heritage and all the old Z did have a varient with the old RB engine in it.) but more than likely it would be because of cost if im being honest. Still that said great looking car and I want one noooooow!!
