This video documents some of the aspects of the BMAA instructor course. I learnt with Rob Grimwood at Exodus Airsports based at Plaistows airfield just outside London. The instructor course has been a huge undertaking of study, preparation and time to get to the end and be ready for the test.
I have to thank a few people who have helped/mentored me along the way, Mark Hilton who most are quite familiar with from the channel and Alan who helped me practice by board briefs.
It has slowly sunk in what I have achieved and I'm looking forward to getting my Flying Instructor (RESTRICTED) licence so I can teach others and share the joy of flying.

Well done Giles I'm sure the students will be lining up to learn with you. I think the fact that you were used to the discipline that a forces career gives you will make you a really great instructor, I cannot imagine you would ever accept less from your students. Brilliant video, Giles. Many congratulations on your well-deserved achievement - as so many have said, you'll make a great tutor. I believe that people's attitude to you depends on your attitude to them, and you have the ability to put folk at their ease and give them confidence. Humility is a big part of that, and you have it in spades. It was interesting to see your view from the rear seat - without seeing that you tend to think the pilot behind has the same view. I think that would have been useful for me to see when I was having my training with Gary. I'm glad to see below that you'll be hanging on to your PeaBee... Cheers. John

Hi buddy, CONGRATS!, I nearly started an instructors course in my late twenties - I did the sensible thing and went and got post grad qualifications, which stood me in good stead. BUT I've always regretted not being employed in aviation. Too late now - maybe, maybe not - but all things considered, realistically it is, for me. So you go for it and don't let go of the dream!😊😊👍👍✌️✌️ Good to see WIS&D veterans flying and becoming instructors, I've met a few of the chaps before, although I'm a civvie (my father, grandfather, uncles all served), I've a similar background in terms of life experiences, injuries etc, as has one of my friends. In the wider world WIS&D are often overlooked, especially in civvie street and especially if the disabilities are hidden. All have something to bring regardless, yet despite high numbers, WIS&D are often a minority. In addition men are often overlooked when it comes to disabilities, homelessness, cancer, mental health, men in the UK are often the highest in numbers in the 'worst off catagory' (according to stats) yet the least heard and catered for🤔🤔🤔😕😕😕 BTW, I'm subscribed, have the alert bell and still keep missing you're videos, not sure what IT glitch You Tube has as other channels seem to work okay🤔🤔🤔🙄🙄😊✌️👍

I wasn’t introduced to your channel until after this part of your journey. Congratulations on becoming an instructor! On a separate note, is the Raptor product still in production? I guess I was confused as to who was the manufacturer. So Flylight builds the PeaBee line, but Micromaintenance builds the Raptor? Is that correct?

HI Tom, many thanks and I'm so enjoying my instructor side of things. I don't post much about that, teaching videos take you down some awkward rabbit holes I don't want to go down. Yes, the Raptor is still made, but all made to the customers needs, ie you just choose the colour😁. It's made in conjuction with Flylight so it's a joint effort.

Hi Jed, thank you. The Flying Instructor (restricted) means that I have to operate under a Flying Instructor. To remove the restriction, I have to get 100 hours instruction, more than 10 months and pass the FI upgrade test. This has to be completed inside of 36 months or start all over again.

Great job if you like subsidising other peoples flying while you live like a pauper. And the renewals every three years are an absolute joke, costing anywhere between £600 and £1000 to be treated like something that the examiner just stepped in and grilled on minutiae that only someone with a brain the size of a planet would ever be able to remember if they did the entire ATPL theory course every year. 30 years worth of experience in my case down the drain thanks to the economics of the "industry" and the renewal experience which is a very expensive way of spending a really shit day learning nothing other than how little you care about going flying anymore.
