So You Want to be a Support Main? | A Comprehensive Guide to Support in Smite Season 5!

Number 1 tip: Expect all of the blame and none of the glory, otherwise this role will not suit you. It's a mostly thankless job.

Here's a tip expect all the blame if you A. Accidently take a kill B. Drop a kill trying to let the carry pick it up so he/she can get fed and they drop it to C. Get pinged by your jungler for not helping him in a gank because you where protecting the carry D. My personal favorite only on on the team placing wards Supps get no love ;-;

Here’s a BIG tip from me ( a support main) when playing khepri specifically, you are going to be a priority target during the start of most team fights, so while the whole enemy team is focusing you, you can ult yourself and keep them all on you for a few extra seconds. Those few seconds can be a make or break situation for most team fights. You will most likely die but you team will be pounding the enemy team while you are getting pounded. So your team will come out on top. Another tip is know when to die and when not to die for your team. I like to call this “ dying for their sins “ if your carry is way pushed up away from the team, and ignore your calls for retreat, stick close enough to them that you can help if needed, but if they get caught out, you can leave. Let them die. It’s alright. You have to learn how to shot call as support too since you will be the one most likely setting up for kills/starting objectives. You are the teams anchor. It’s not something you get immediately. With due time you will know when to go for an objective rather than push a lane, or vice versa.

im super late in terms of commenting to this but i guess ill give my input. the first thing that pops is when you said to usually protect the adc for valid reasons, however, not every one is a super star in their role let alone even good, so for me as a support i think it's key to protect the "true carry" aka the squishy who tends to have the biggest impact. like yea adc can siege but if my mage is the one carrying the game, im butt hugging them because they're my win condition. you also briefly touched on not taking farm from your adc and to go more into that, an important thing to do is freeze the wave. like if your adc died and the waves are meeting up and its only you in the lane, dont touch the wave, especially if you're stacking thebes or even your blessing. it benefits you that way and it helps keep your adc in the game by not missing too much xp and gold. i know its boring but it's how you win. there's also body blocking which comes in really well during those early fights that break out in duo. body block abilities or basic attacks really swings the fight in your favor if your adc can capitalize. also, biggest tips that goes against common belief, if your adc REALLY cant last hit that kill, kill em yourself, assist is just fine for them as long as the enemy dies and you get an advantage out of it, as well knowing when to abandon someone. yea, ppl will tell you, you're support, you're supposed to die for me, but if your ally makes a bad choice or just gets caught out, there's no point in you dying with them if you truly cant help them get out alive. its a bad habit i have to work on

Also, know how to draw out key enemy abilities. Baiting out something like Ymir's freeze or Thoth's gylphs onto your health bar is much more beneficial than on your carry's or mage's health bar. I usually aggressively approach with my team on standby, call out my intention to bait an ability, and draw out the ability

Body blocking. Get nice at it.

If your kit has good cc (like geb or kumbakarna) stone of binding is a great aura item, especially if you team needs more pen.

"except cabrakan" cabrak can be an extremely good support. The only slight issue is the fact that he is very offensive. But that can also be good. His passive and 2's passive all help him tank. And you can use his ult to block enemies from allies in a closed/ small space. And his character model (like most guardians) is big, so you can easily body block autos and abilities with him.

Ok so i have one question as to whether this is a bug or not, but, the genjis armor alternative (the red one) shows up under aura items so is the 5% dmg reduction from it an aura for the team cause if so it could be huge if not that sucks

You can totally play Cabrakan support, it's just really hard to make it work.

I've noticed that starting Stone of Binding is a stupid good start if you want early pressure. It's sad because I never see supports do it even though it's so good.

Here's a tip; If you want to play as a guardian & get kills, the best guardians for that are Athena, Bacchus, Xing Tian, Ymir, & Fafnir. Remember to not hog up all the kills. (Also you don't always have to buy all defense items. One magical damage item would not hurt.)

6:52 Phantom veil is also useful against Cabroken ult and jungle Ymir.

Here's a tip from a Sylvanus main. If you have an ability that can restore health to or buff allies, don't feel like you have to use it for one of them as well as yourself. If you *can*, do it, but your the main healer, it's better to be alive without the ability than dead with it.

Haven't played anything but support for 2 seasons, but you can always improve.

as a support main I think the only things u really missed was the importance of learning to body block, and juking u can win 1v1s easy if u can dodge the enemy's attacks. Also I would always recommend going gauntlets 2nd item it's just too strong to wait for

When playing support how do I level up effectively? I'm constantly behind in levels and have to catch up late game and can't really do much from the level and gold difference

Final step: Understand that the way smite works now that you will ALWAYS be underleveled when a Guardian. Even in the pro scene pros are under leveled as Guardians.

As a Ganesha Support main. The passive made me a better person at work in real life. I see adcs get all the glory for passing by enemies I have slain with Ganesha combo. I love the idea behind the passive.

Tip as a support main for other games; save yourself first to get out and turn to help everyone else get out too

I like to play assassins and destroy the hunter before the minions even get to lane. Also - Biggest Tip - Don't be afraid to show some balls and get your ADC to step up. SO many times as a SUpport I'll go in, say "Attack" and the ADC will just stand there scared cause of position. Go in, kick ass, and then ping teh shit out of him and make him realize "Be an adc"

I main Khepri and my favourite complaint is from the player who gets ganged hard and im almost there bolting towards them as fast as I can and they decide too run in the complete opposite direction from me and the other teammates lead them on a merry chase die and then get mad because i didn't ult them.......its not a global ult its got a limited range and you were running away from me....help me to help you jeez

Even tho this is old, I'd like a guide video specifically on aggressive guardians as supports, idk if I'm allowed to take some kills as it and what to pick for builds, I tried playing aggressive guardians but I end up taking too much dmg and having to retreat early game 😂

So help me out here. I’m a ymir main and I play all gaurdians but ymir is my guy. I have a mindset where I think that if I die but we can secure a kill or even a double that it would be worth. My matches often end with about 10 deaths so I feel like I’m feeding. So which is better, to stay alive and not get the kill for carry or die and get a kill or 2. I’m often put in a situation where my carry is low and really far ahead and the enemy’s are right behind him so I use my wall to save the carry but I die in return, is that worth too.

Why not recommend pyth piece? Giving your team lifesteal really helps everyone stick it out in team fights.

can you do a video showing actual number differences for having auras vs not having them? I feel like alota supports i talk to don't understand how much an aura can help because they can't see the damage numbers changing

Cerberus is probably one of the only supports you can play aggressively. Get kills. And still make it work.

Ya. Don’t be scared to ult. Especially if it’s global like Athena. Don’t save it for carry. Ganks maybe but if your solo needs help. Best believe you better use it

I have two dedicated slots for selfish items on my support builds. While I will build auras once I get those done I just build 2 items I want depending on the situation. If I am fighting a tanky bruiser then I just go obsidian shard or soulreaver and stone of gia for sustain so yeah

As a support main u gotta learn to body block well its really useful and get it through your head the adc doesnt like you, there are too many trash supports out there for them to trust u

Always a big rule. Guardians are not nearly as item dependant as say ADCs. So as he stated. Don't be actively going for last hits and kills. Let the carry get them....... Unless you happen to be an Elephant named Ganesha. In that case. Obliterate everything.

Recently got to rank 10 with Athena. Mainly play Arena, I've only been playing for a week 1/2 and have been trying out conquest. Teammate called me a bot :/ I know I'm not good at conquest yet but it's really discouraging to play when people shit on you all the time. And I play on nintendo switch so that's kind of trash. For the record we did win that game. And I didn't die as much as I had been in previous games. Idk the way I see it, if you don't want trash teammates or people who are trying to learn then go play ranked or stop queuing with randoms. Maybe it's not that simple but it's just an idea.

Update fenrir is an op support early and mid game

Another tip; The best Assassin supports are Ne Zha, Nemesis, Fenrir & Believe it or not, Ratatoskr, I personally have had alot of success playing Ratatoskr.

Since her recent buff Terra is probably the best support in the game right now. Don't put healer mages in support. Enemies build anti heal and then it's a 4v5. If you pick an assassin supp, a double jungle, or double adc, you're just trolling

Hey, this is coming from an ADC, watch what your ADC does, i have to many supports engage with all my abilities down. Look to aggress with your ADC, don't go in expecting them to follow up. And if they go to a camp, follow them, even if you think they are wrong, better peel for them on an invade than let them die.
