Me too, I thought the idea was to keep them from moisture until they sprouted. I'm in the U.S. perhaps the climate, soil, etc are very different in her area.

I see you also put into compost a single tuber....i was advised this would not grow....? did it...?

Yes. I wondered the same thing… grit? Not sure what that is? I want to try this method but I am not sure what grit is. Beautiful yard. Thanks for the video!
