Hello Doc. Great video as always. I'm a recently graduated IMG from India with Step 1 & 2ck scores of 242 and 268 respectively. I'm waiting for ECFMG certification and hopefully giving Step 3 before September. The only blank spot would be no research experience. In your experience, what are the chances of me getting interviews and matched to Internal Medicine program.
@IshwariChandran
@IshwariChandran 2 года назад
Hey! No one knows what a person’s chances are tbh bc there are a lot of subjective things that come into play- strength of LoRs, quality of personal statement, MSPE etc. To answer your question about research, it isn’t really a dealbreaker. People match without research as well. You can find the exact data on the nrmp website :)

Hi, Thankyou for such an informative video, I wanted to ask whether one can apply for positions outside the match if one hasn't participated in the match?
@IshwariChandran

How to get hands on after graduation easily Is getting visa for observership/externship/clerkship getting difficult these days. If yes, can you suggest some tricks to get visa easily/get USCE. Basically how to plan USCE in these covid times when getting visa is itself a challenge. Will i get (preferably paid) research position in US to make connections & do USCE. Will i get visa for that
@IshwariChandran
@IshwariChandran 2 года назад
I'm not quite aware of hands on experience after graduation since I haven't done one myself. Usually, after graduation, people get hands on experience by applying via agencies. I also came across this opportunity. www.heartteam.com/contents/about/careers You can try finding out from people who've rotated here before you sign up (so that you can get an idea of what it is like) Yes, it's hard to get a visa which is why all my rotations were telerotations. You will get a J1 visa for research. You can apply to places like Mayoclinic and Cleveland Clinic on their websites

Mam what's your age when you started your graduation and what's your age when you finally matched and entering your residency .Does usmle had taken hard time of your life than choosing other plans like neet pg and all.
@IshwariChandran
@IshwariChandran 2 года назад
Started at 17, graduated at 23. I'll be 24 when I start residency in July. USMLE is definitely hard but it's worth it! Every journey has its advantages and disadvantages. So it depends on a person's priorities to choose the path they feel is best for them

Are telerotations good enough for US clinical experience. Since I don’t have visa as of now and at the same time it is difficult to obtain visa from India for the time being. How many telerotations can I do to match for peds for the upcoming match? Is it wise to apply this year without on hand rotations?
@IshwariChandran
@IshwariChandran 2 года назад
Depends on the rotation. Telerotations were the only USCE I had. I've spoken more about finding good telerotations & match w them here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EX5UXahF-RQ.html

can I submit score of step 2 ck later in october or November? I think I need more time for prep but also want to apply this year
@IshwariChandran
@IshwariChandran 2 года назад
You can but it's better to have it before ERAS opens to programs (especially if you're an IMG) 'cause some programs use filters based on Step 2 ck scores, ECFMG certification status, complete applications etc.

@IshwariChandran
@IshwariChandran 2 года назад
You can filter programs based on "does not participate in NRMP". These programs will also not have an NRMP code on ERAS. You can find out more about applying to prematch programs here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Cbz8-zm-f54.html&lc=UgyOVTnpq96YCyPgmPN4AaABAg
