Speaking as an Indonesian, that's the last time you'll see Rusli. Looking for people in Jakarta alone is already a tough task. I'm from Jakarta myself and I supposedly have another set of 11 uncles and aunts there, or at least in the surrounding provinces. No one in the family could find them ever since my grandmother disowned their abusive dad. Also in the Q&A, the engineers downstairs are the unsung heroes here, they managed to keep the backup generator alive and keeping it from short circuiting and burning with water up to their chests.

The captain was a security officer before he captained for Costa, but he was a bridge officer and had his captain's patent before that, to be fair. There were no captaincies available and so he took another officer job until there was, to be fair. That's not uncommon. He wasn't a bouncer, so to speak, who suddenly became captain.

Yeah, cant imagine an untrained person calling for opposite rudder direction to attempt to swing the rear of the ship around the rock while under that kind of stress. He knew how to sail that ship, he just put himself in a ridiculous position from his own complacency.

Even if there’s spots, getting certified as a captain takes years during which one has to work anyways, it’s not uncommon to see someone progress into a captain role from a simple job that isn’t mentally intensive. But that doesn’t excuse everything else that happened 😄 he totally f’d up and then couldn’t take the L so he made it worse 😄

You guys are honestly a fantastic up-and-coming reaction channel. You avoid being leeches (like many other channels) by adding your own thoughts during and after the video, which makes the content your own as opposed to just stealing it. Also, the fact that you guys pause it to discuss is great because it gives us content and insight, but also prevents situations of talking over the video itself, which can be annoying for lovers of the videos. Honestly, you guys are great! Keep it up and I can see this channel growing well :) Also, just as an addendum, Internet Historian's second channel "Internet Historian: Incognito Mode", is also a gold mine of content, I highly recommend the videos there as well.

From what I understand, the captain had qualifications to be a captain before being a security guard. The two accidents he had actually weren’t that bad. And if weren’t for the guy steering, they wouldn’t have gotten so close and they probably would have missed the rocks afterward. If it weren’t for the other officers, he would have likely been notified that they were off course before they got close. He did have the boat a bit fast for this type of maneuver. All in all, it sounds like he wasn’t that bad of a captain. However, everything after impact was just as bad as it sounded. Had the captain taken charge during the accident, there may not have been any deaths. But he fell apart and then ran off like a coward. Other contributing circumstance are the one water tight door jamming and the emergency generator’s fan failing were due to lack of maintenance by the parent company. Instructions in case of emergency were to be given the next day so the passengers didn’t know what to do. The captain definitely contributed to the disaster and deserved prosecution, but so did several other officers and the parent company. The rest got off lightly by throwing all guilt at the captain. At least he faced justice, but they all should have.

The rise from security to captain is not that strange in the cruise line industry. It is not like the military where you need to get promoted through the ranks. To be a captain of a cruise liner, you just need to have certain certifications and be hired as one. What he probably did was took a job in security to get his foot in the door, and then applied for a job as captain as it became available. My sister works in yachting, and according to her, most of the good captains work on yachts, and not cruise ships because it is less stressful and pays better. Also the captain was responsible for having the green helmsman. It is the captains job to remove people from duty if they are not up to the job. I am sure the helmsman would have been fine if they were in open ocean, but, if the captain was going to pull a stunt like this, he should have called a more experienced helmsman to the helm.

The largest Cruise ship disaster, but in what way. In loss of life there's been a lot worse cases (Lusitania and Estonia for example) I dunno how this 1 is the largest since titanic, is it just that the cruise ship was large or what?
@001TheMarksman001
@001TheMarksman001 2 года назад
Lusitania was torped so it is a whole other story. Estonia, yeah it was sort of a ferry so it did not count as a cruise ship. So it is indeed the greatest cruise liner disaster since the Titanic.

@@001TheMarksman001 Those were just examples, theres still Empress of Ireland, Eastland, Saint-philibert, Admiral Nakhimov, Aleksandr suvorov, Morro Castle and Andrea Doria. If loss of life is the measurement then Costa Concordia is a small 1.

Hey guys, some pretty decent content you seem to have. I have a recommendation I'd like to make as I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. It's a series called Freeman's Mind made by Ross Scott. It's a sort of a let's play of the original Half-Life game but instead of just playing it normally he instead takes on the role of the protagonist Gordon Freeman, gives him a voice and plays out the game and acts as a real person in the situation would act and it's incredibly funny. As with any show it's a bit rough but by the end it gets really good and is definitely worth a watch. I recommend the first four episodes to get a feel for the show. I hope you guys decide to check it out.

Hey, now, Titanic is legit good, so don't you feel bad about liking it. x,D It's one of those movies that got dumped on for being a 'stupid girl movie', but when watching it nowadays, it really holds up and didn't really deserve the crap some people gave it back then.

In Italy 13 is considered a lucky number. 17 is the unlucky number in my country. On that front we are covered. 13 in Italy is bad only at the table, because it is the number of Jesus plus the 12 apostles. The N. 13 it was Judas who betrayed him. In addition, the Italian judicial system is crap. Whether it was involuntary or voluntary, Schettino is a serial killer (aka he killed more than one person with the same modus operandi [people drowned]), and received ONLY 15 years, of which 99.9% will discount in minimal part, for good conduct and pardon ... I would say that the Italian judicial system should be reformed, given that life imprisonment is considered inhuman, and is given only partially (beginning of the sentence in serious cases, and is sometimes only day or night only and rarely 24 hours), or is given definitively for mafia crimes or organized crimes and those are 24 hours. As far as I'm concerned, a serial killer does not deserve penalty discounts and never deserves an end sentence, since in Italy the death penalty is illegal, which is why I am in favor of reintroducing it.

Not a serial killer, a mass murderer. There’s a difference.
@ShadowSoul92
@ShadowSoul92 2 года назад
@@thisusernameis2long927 A serial killer by definition is someone who kills more than one person with the same modus operandi, we can call him by any definition, perhaps the most appropriate is mass murderer, but that does not change for the penalty that I would give. Unfortunately I'm not a judge or I would have told the guards to throw him in some forgotten cell in some remote corner of the prison and have them throw away the key. But these are details. Luckily I'm not a judge!
@ApinofArc
@ApinofArc 2 года назад
ShadowSoul So here's the thing, i'm using wikipedias definition here "modus operandi is someone's habits of working..." The thing is, he is not a habitual murderer. His actions (and lack of) lead to many lives lost. But it isnt exaxtly something he makes a habit of. You can essentially view all of this as one event. Rather than killing people one by one. He's a horrible human being (mainly due to his ASTONISHING cowardice) but a serial killer is not the term i'd use. in fact, in terms of law, I don't even think murder is correct, I believe he'd fall under 'involuntary manslaughter', as his actions were neither filled with malice (murder) or premeditated (voluntary). I mean, in the end the guy is a piece of shit, because of him many lives were lost that could have easily been saved (i'm assuming, I doubt the 33 people suddenly died of heart attacks) and he probably does deserve more time in jail, especially considering he went to a fucking party during his house arrest. Iono...kinda lost the topic there, have a good day I guess?
@ShadowSoul92

@@ApinofArc Modus operandi in this case, I mean it as a method in which people died. They all drowned ... The killing method/death is the same.
@ApinofArc
@ApinofArc 2 года назад
@@ShadowSoul92 okay, but that's not how it's used in law...just, throwing that out there. As it's basically always used when viewing more than one crime. (which is what brought me to the whole habit thing)
