Soarin' & Scratchin' React to Internet Historian with The Engoodening of No Man's Sky - Brilliant 

I (EF) have picked up this game from Steam since watching this video. Will try it this week sometime.

I like how you pause the video and give your takes on the video, Internet Historian - The cost of Concordia is another cool video.

I think this is internethistorian's best video; it really makes you feel empathy for the developers and gives a full story of the whole situation

I have to say I was in a similar place. Fell for the hype, bought it, refunded it, watched Internet Historian's video, bought it again, been loving it ever since.

I'm a new viewer for your channel, and I gotta say, it's very refreshing seeing y'all empathize and be understanding with Sean and his team from the beginning. I've see too many reactions to this where people just absolutely get livid with Sean, or berate Hello Games for their absolute failure at the release of NMS. Too many people saying "tHeY sTiLl LiEd ThOuGh!!" and maintaining that stance throughout the breakdown of the situation. It's a breath of fresh air to see someone wait for the information before passing and absolute judgement. Y'all are amazing, and I love that you didn't go in 100% blind, you knew about the game and had experience with it. I can personally vouch that NMS is great now, it's a really good game. HG is still working on it diligently. It just keeps getting better and better. I subscribed, you deserve more viewers and subscribers.

Hello Games proved to everyone how games should be done. Instead of adding pay-to-win and micro transactions to a poorly developed game, they improved and fixed the game without asking their audience for a single penny, and they turned their dumpster fire of a game into an absolute masterpiece. I tried it just after the "NEXT" update, which was about 3 years ago. They've obviously done loads of stuff since then and it was already pretty good when I played.

The talk about developer criticism reminds me of Fez 2. Basically Fez was a major indie game and even was featured in a movie about indie developers. After getting into a Twitter fight with the writer, the developer basically acted like a little kid, and cancelled the sequel and left Twitter.

You should make a video on your impressions of the game as it is now.

One thing I’ll mention here since this reaction is so thoughtful: How do you think game development is impacted when you take the creator and lead dev and instead have him spend a significant portion of his time doing press junkets? Could it have a negative impact? Maybe? Personally I feel like Sony may be more to blame in the background of this, though that’s more speculation on my part. Great reaction~! I look forward to seeing more Internet Historian content. I can tell you both vibe with him. 🙂

I highly respect Hello Games now with how much they updated and put out tons of free content. They filled pretty much every promise, plus more. They really worked their ass off to fix their mess. They went from overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam to very positive reviews with almost 1000 recent reviews.

IH's video single handedly made me just buy No Man's Sky. I don't really see myself playing it, but I bought it anyway to support developers who actually care. As an introvert myself who's struggling with severe social anxiety I really felt for Sean.

Internet historians "swedish job" is another excellent video you guys should watch!

No Man's Sky is a much better game now, but I'd still say it's not for everyone It's a chill experience though, but could get crazy with friends (which is true for everything I suppose)

The game admittedly starts off kind of slow when you get into it. But once you start unlocking certain stuff like the Anomaly, that's when the game really hooks you (that's what happened to me at least). Just play through the story missions and you'll start unlocking everything at a pretty fast rate. Also fun fact, since Internet Historian's video there's been like 12 more updates lol, Prisms being the latest.

Honestly, while Sean really should hand over PR to someone else (then again, he's the head developer, I guess it'd always end up falling on him), circumstances near the end of the development just got really unfair on the team. They had to deal with 2 different legal threats, a flood, and then Sony basically throwing them under the bus.

Even Sean Murray watched the video and enjoyed it.

The Gentleman Pirate is in my opinion the best Internet Historian video, although there is tough competition.

Thing is - I don't even think adding DLC / microtransactions per se is a bad thing. It's just that the big companies are doing it in an outragoues way which is annoying.

Who knows if we can meet. The multiplayer I think is divided up in many lobbies as to not… I would say overwhelm things. But hey who knows.

I love watching reactions to this video. I love No Man's Sky, and the whole story is great. And the fact that they've never once charged extra for ANYTHING, is ridiculous. They've added so much content to the game since launch, that any other company would have been charging $10+ for. Almost every major update is an entire expansion's worth of new content and fixes, and it's all been free. I think the death threats and things were a bit much, obviously, but i think the general dislike and a lot of the hate was justified around launch. Same with Cyberpunk and other games that had horrible launches. But the thing this game did, was make up for that screw up. Like this video says, they didn't turn around and add monetization to try and make extra money, they didn't charge for expansions, they didn't do anything other than sit down and work on the game to try and make up for the screw up. The best thing i think they could've done, is not make excuses or try to pass the blame off. As far as I'm aware, they never denied that it was their fault or anything. They could've easily tried to blame Sony or something, and made themselves look bad in the process, but they didn't. They accepted it, and just pushed through it to make a really good game. I really want to see him make a part 2 to this video with all the new stuff. _____ FYI, the game is STILL getting regular massive updates, even in 2024. Hell, they even released the game on Switch since this video was made. Definitely worth checking out. ___ Also, gotta say. I really like how you guys do these reactions. Im not a fan of when people pause CONSTANTLY to talk. Like, sure, if I just want to watch the original video, I will, but that's not the point. The person reacting isn't even watching the video properly at that point. I MUCH prefer how it's done here, where you guys watch a chunk, pause to discuss, then continue. Better for the viewer, and it makes it feel like you guys are actually paying attention.

I was one of the "nay-sayers" and "skeptics" during the development of No Man's Sky, and I fully remember how viciously I was attacked for telling people their expectations were unrealistic in the extreme, so I had very little sympathy for the people who felt betrayed from their disappointment.

Having been part of game development myself, I always feel a lot for Sean and his team. Specially being an introvert as well. I'm glad IH did this video and looked at their side of the story, cause developing a game as a small group is tough. I actually went and purchased the game after this Historian video went out, and I've been enjoying it. And still getting new free expansions to this date.

No doubt, one of the greatest come backs in videogame history. Speaking of that, have you guys watched the "Story of Tetris" by Gaming Historian? (Not the same guy) It's great, you should dive into that channel, does not disappoint.
