This video left me hungry for more. This masterful work gives us a very unique view of the rails, although I suspect others will follow Dan in these awesome vistas.

Cool flying Dan, what a beautiful region. Those are propane tankers. My guess is they are used as a storage and supply depot for the many switch heaters up and down the line.
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 4 месяца назад
Thanks a lot and yes you've got it right. The propane tanks are to heat the switches. I failed to mention something about that.

Smooooooth drone pilotage-we know it’s not the headend of a train because the cab would be bouncing all over.😂

This was “WOW” :-) Great job!! I feel like you asked for feedback, choose what worked for you/you wanted to do, and blended that all together into an amazing video (experience). Thank you for sharing your work/efforts!!

Excellent work. Like a cab ride. Interesting how you can cover so much distance with the drone flying so low.

I enjoyed riding the rails in this video, Dan! It was nice watching the scenery go by. The Maintenance of Way snowplow with the painting on the plow adds some hilarity to what a tedious job. As I sit at my computer watching the drone fly along the rails, I keep wondering "Where is Dan controlling the hiding as he controls the drone?" I presume the car that appears at 11:00 is where you stopped to control the drone for a distance before and after this road crossing.
@TheRailfanDan

Thanks Thomas glad you enjoyed! I know how funny to spend money on painting that snowplow like that. Yes you did catch my blue Jeep at 11 minutes! It is noticeable in a couple of other locations as well but not as obvious as that spot.

I thought you did a great job...A good mix of hovering over the rails...the birds eye view, and other points of interest...you said something at the end of the video about it being a little long...I thought it wasn't long enough and look forward to episode 3!!
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 4 месяца назад
Thanks so much! Well I just meant this one will be exceptionally longer than most I think. I can't say for sure yet but I think on average they will be between 5 and 10 minutes each. They're supposed to be really fast and easy to edit. That's the only way I can justify doing them so I still spend 95% of my effort on the main videos.

A beautiful day for drone flying and photography. The "Flying Tigers shark's mouth" makes that snowplow more effective. The forest seems endless from trackside viewing. Is this a second growth forest? I think this area (old growth) was probably harvested back in the lumber boom era of the 1930's. I once studied this area for a model railroad and have read a few books about the SP and the lumber boom their rail connection stimulated. There were many mills around Klamath Falls and Klamath Lake area back then.
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 4 месяца назад
The forest does seem endless even when you're out in it! It is quite a stretch of railroad through thick trees for sure. It sounds like you know more about that then I do. I don't have any knowledge of that unfortunately. I am betting you're right though. Yes many railroads long gone now.

Okay we have to get together sometime. I would love to give you some location tips and what to look for along the right-of-way as you push more of these videos out! I think that viewers would love to learn more about specific landmarks and why they're there, and I'm really understanding of why they're there (as you know). I'll find a way to reach out to you and we can possibly talk in the future. This video was AWESOME!!!
@TheRailfanDan

Thank you for your enthusiasm Mike! It all sounds great to add more detailed information to these but to be honest these are supposed to be pretty simple so that I can edit and produce them much quicker than my normal videos. The only reason I considered doing these is because they're so much easier and quicker to make so they need to stay simple in order for me to fit them in for production between my regular videos. You've got great ideas though! It could definitely be made more than it is. If I wasn't already so slammed with everything that I'm doing in life then it might be possible but I already spend every waking moment doing this hobby when I'm not at my day job or spending time with my wife.

Wow this is really good. I love snowy landscapes and we can see the ground better from this perspective. This is a beautiful line and I'm sure the crews really like it. Tall trees on both sides of the track and the views are spectacular too. Are the switches heated in this area? There's no snow between the rails where the switches are. And the road crossings are clean and dry too. This was a great idea Dan, I hope the series will be popular. I'm definitely looking forward to the next episode. Thank you for the relaxing ride.
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 4 месяца назад
Thank you Z! Yes I failed to mention those propane thanks along the way are to keep the switches heated to prevent ice buildup. They do the job well. So far it is popular enough I will keep doing it. Not nearly the views of the main videos but they're easy and quick enough to produce that I can fit in a little time to do them.
