I’m French and was visiting a friend in Brighton and as we were walking a beautiful voice caught my attention…it was Ren with the band busking in an adjacent street. Needless to say we went there, and listened to the whole set. It was awesome. When I heard Hi Ren for the first time I didn’t realize that it was the guy busking in the streets. I realized it was him when I finally listened to this video here! That’s when it clicked. He’s amazing.

The last busking session that the big push did over 1000 people turned up, the police had to come and corner it off.

I don’t think he’s necessarily trying to do a Jamaican accent, his Welsh accent is very similar. I LOVE Ren’s “imperfect” singing voice, it makes him interesting and he could not be more perfect to me. 😊 Thank you for reacting to him!

All of thesw boys were born to make music, but ren always looks like he is a conduit for music through his soul. Its awesome to watch. 😊💜💜

Romain (black outfit and guitar) and Gorran (shirtless longer hair) both have solo careers and channels on RU-vid. Gorran has been releasing some new music recently, that is decidedly more folk inspired and Romain has songs that are instrumental, where he sings in English and in French. Romain's song Time After Time (live version in a church) is the song of the year for 2024 so far.

Now that you're a fully certified member of the Ren fan club ( I've unofficially inducted you ) I'd recommend checking out the Big Push version of Wade In The Water/ Nina Simone/ Trouble So Hard. Its beautiful and really showcases Ren's voice 👍

Yes, Ren kills it - each and every TIME! A brilliant display of his diverse genre hopping skills. He just has music and rhythm in his bones! Everything Ren does is intentional (micro-intentional!) and you can see him 'directing' each element of these transitions perfectly. And the imperfections are - yes - part of the whole. { A number of vocal coaches have spoken abut his 'trailing' or 'feathering' vibrato. Not sure if that's the correct term - but we LOVE it! So REN!) If you look at his /their much earlier performance of 'Englishman In New York' this is far less evident. He has had a little bit of vocal training. His mother was a music treacher, and I understand he was in a Choir at some point. The Big Push have been playing together for years, especially around the UK Brighton area and are really In Synch- as we clearly see here. Their skills have been honed out on the streets Busking and in small venues. Live and 'unticketed' is truly the best training ground, where your audience feedback is immediate and can be brutal! No-one's paid for a seat. They walk past or stop. Throw money or not. Can't you see this set going off in a large arena!? These passersby get it for free! ( I wonder how many were late back from Lunch, and what excuses they made to their bosses!?!) The band split over a year ago when Ren had to move to Canada for specialist L/T treatment of his chronic {post?} Lyme Disease symptoms. If you look at more of their Busking clips you can see that they give each other the lead vocals regularly as all are multi-skilled. Each member of the band has since dived off into developing their own stuff, but with the volume of interest engendered by their international exposure, via 'Ren's Rise', there is a 'Big Push' 🤣to get the band back together in some form, even if only for a few performance dates a year. I gather they are interested in doing this. But right now Ren is a Production Powerhouse with all of his own stuff just 'bubbling up' out of him! He has said, in the long periods (Years) when he was bedridden and otherwise severely restricted in his energy and physcial capacity - he still 'created music'. THOUSANDS of pieces, some snippets, some complete works - that he is now polishing up and delivering to the world! And the 'world' is just stunned by his talent and drive. 🤩

The accent what is sounding like an jamacan accent is an accent of his area in wales. That is what I had read in a comment of a viewer how life in the area.

Ren talks about flow state a lot. For recent vocal performances, Back on 74/Message in a Bottle Retake and Fred Again Mashup. Hope you'll react to those. Both different, both great. Ren has multiple different vocal styles. Also, The Big Push Wade in the Water /Nina Simone /Trouble So Hard. Bluesey and Jazzy (better scat). He did an interview with Chris Liepe where they talk about his vocals. Also with Elizabeth Zharoff from Charismatic Voice.

Also the Big Push did Black Sabbath song :War pigs , and made it into a Medley .. Its truly a kick in the face ..

I love the way Ren 'conducts' the band. You can tell they are so well connected that they can improv lots of little flourishes and additions and ride the energy.

I'm Jamaican and i 100% love the accent its authentic and shows his actual love of Marley and he pulls it off. There are a lot of Jamaican reactors that love ren because of this song - humble and murderer Respectfully that opinion is respected but i would disagree and so would any Renegade.

I noticed a long time ago that Ren looks down a lot when he’s interviewed, and when he is talking to people often. I think it is not a shyness, but something to do with his neurological condition or ADHD. He has improved over time, and is now more often looking at the person he’s speaking to, or the interviewer, whatever the case. Alternatively, it could just be that he’s so into the moment with his performance that he’s not focussing around him.

You're right, in that Ren doesn't much care about pitch perfection, and frankly, I agree with that approach. Emotional connection is FAR more important with music. If you've ever been to a few concerts, you've probably seen this phenomenon, where they performed their music just fine, but you still left unimpressed. I think the term he/she put on a show, refers to it. It's that emotional connection that truly drives a REAL performance, makes it more authentic. Some are just better than others at connecting. Ren is a bit of a master at it, IMHO.

I’m a 100% Swiftie. Legit. But Ren is on another level. All of his videos are done in 1 take with 1 camera. What the camera does in Jenny & Screech gives me goosebumps. Also… Ren has been very appreciative of video reactors. He said that his music is open to all who want to use it and that he will never copy strike anyone. Verbatim. Love his mentality. Such a beautiful, peaceful and talented young man. Definitely went through it, still in treatment, but his mental health is so much better. This was shot in 2014, but he released this a year ago when he was announcing the release of his album “Hi Ren!” This decade of his life makes me want to hug him. You would really love Ren’s Retake videos. They’re how own spin on existing songs.

I’m pretty sure that Ren has said that they didn’t really do a lot (or even more than one?) of takes for Chalk Outline. And didn’t even practice it much. Which makes that performance a one of a kind that just happened in that moment. I think the shoulder movement was more likely just from him feeling the song. But I can’t be 100% sure. I don’t think Ren struggles all that much with high notes though. I recommend checking out the Back on 74/Message in a Bottle retake. Anyway The Big Push are great! They’re all talented but the real magic is that it’s clearly a group of people who came together and bonded over a shared love for music and are just enjoying it together. So much fun! And the energy is contagious 😊

I believe The Big Push's drummer, Glenn, got married and moved to Thailand, so you might be able to catch their percussion section anyway. The others are trying to work out a schedule for a reunion project.

6:37 there is definitely a lot of improv in their busking performances - there are multiple performances of them doing I shot the Sherif online, and non of them are the same. You can see with his guitar playing how many times he’s about to play one thing, then he suddenly changes his mind and switches to play a different lick. I’m sure they have a rough idea of what they are going to do, but a lot of it feels like it is in the moment, feeling the mood of the crowd etc and it becoming a unique moment.

Possibly the reason Ren isn't making eye contact is that 98% of the audience is trying to get his attention for obvious reasons, I don't think those young ladies are in with a chance while he's doing what he primarily loves..I smile at the one playing with her hair, that's a tell...

Okay, I'll be the first one and I'll take the shots.... The thumbnail you're using for this cover is to one version of 'I Shot the Sheriff'. The one most people will want to see is the one from The Big Push where Ren is wearing the RED SUSPENDERS. Both are great. Do which one you want. Do both. You will find that the 'red suspender' version is a mashup of a few songs and has better sound quality and a different vibe. Your comments are going to blow up if you do the one in the thumbnail though, telling you it's the wrong one. Just letting you know. Any performance from The Big Push done on the day of the 'Red Suspenders' is supremely excellent and there are many... so yeah. Have fun.

Hiya Bananas! Have you ever done a premiere of your music reactions? I was wondering as the music ones are so much shorter, but it gives you an opportunity to chat with the viewers irt, which not only bumps up engagement, but also creates some positive results for your algorithm..just asking as the particular video length and the 'notoriety' of the now legendary red suspenders (and Romain's guitar solo) tends to really pull an audience in that moment..and keep them there..from my experience. Just a thought, if not for this joint, maybe for another similarly formatted artist in the future, as I really enjoy your energy and think it may translate well to a premiere, if you're into that kinda thing (and no worries, even if you're not in chat, viewers..particularly RENegades.. tend to appreciate the opportunity to talk about the reaction together irt 😊)

I speculate the reason Ren doesn't look at the audience is that, although he is a wonderful performer, he calls himself an "introverted little bugger." He has also said that he is on the Austism spectrum, and he gets overwhelmed with being approached by a lot of people at once. Maybe he doesn't look at the audience as a way to not invite people to speak with him after the performance? As a community theater person person, we do storytelling events which are just 15-25 person groups that arrive at the storyteller's stationary position and listen to a 5🎉 minute story before the whole group moves on to the next storyteller and the next group shows up. Anyway, I find those close-up, intimate sessions way more intimidating than playing for a large crowd from a stage. When they're so close and I lock eyes with someone, I get distracted (and both Ren and I have ADHD) and can see their reactions in far too much detail. Big crowd? Meh, not so bad. Anyway, my speculation of a possible reason. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Considering the absolute hell that Ren's been through, it's hardly surprising that there's darkness in a lot of his songs! For you to dismiss it with, "Finally! Something happy" is condescending, to say the very least. Besides, Ren has plenty of upbeat, even funny, songs and even his darker compositions usually contain humour somewhere. Of course, you have to have empathy to realise this and that appears to be an area in which you're somewhat lacking... I'm out of here. Video unwatched and downvoted.
