a lot of stoppages occur because believe it or not, american football is actually a very strategically complex sport.

It doesn’t get boring because it’s extremely difficult to see what exactly is happening in each play. Seeing rotations, blocks, and other factors for the untrained eye is a godsend for anyone trying to learn, or people who don’t watch certain positions. Like I played a skilled position so I watch receivers, corners and safeties run routes and rotate. I miss blocks at the line of scrimmage. My buddy who played lineman will pick up reach blocks and trap plays like no one else. My other buddy played runningback and can see what the runningback does and how he picked up a blitz or see which hole to hit on a running play pre snap. And my other friend played qb and can dissect the entire play before it happens before any of us see it and looks like a fortune teller. But besides the last dude I explained we all can watch different parts of a play and miss 2-4 sections of the field if we aren’t looking at the right thing. Replays help show the athleticism at every position. 22 players doing coordinated plays in 5 seconds or less is sensory overload to most. You really don’t know what you miss until someone explains it or you have a knack for knowing what to look for, which takes years and years of experience watching

Damn...that sounds complicated.

@@GoddyGE it’s not super complicated, but there’s a lot to unpack. Beyond the brutal nature (violence of the sport) I’d recommend watching/reacting to the 3 videos (in order). You’ll get why Americans say it’s like playing chess and most other sports are “simple” and more like checkers. While there’s 40 seconds between every play this is how complex each play can be and why players spend 20-50 hours a week preparing for games just in studying film and understanding what to do: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GKVteUGl-dE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bHLrXMPBQ9s.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tn8kIt5wmog.html

Having someone teach you line play on video is like finding out someone is boxing in the middle of your football (soccer) game. It's soooo important and so crazy to watch it played right.

my opinion, the main reason it's so popular is it is the ultimate "team" sport because all 11 guys on the field and on your team have to do their job or the whole play gets messed up usually. basketball, soccer and baseball can be dominated by a couple of superstars, that's the difference :)
@GoddyGE
@GoddyGE 2 года назад
That's actually a fair assessment.

American football started in the 1860's as a game between University students! It was originally a combination between Rugby Football and Association Football (Soccer or "regular football"). A lot of people got hurt and died playing the sport. It was almost banned until 1908, when President Theodore Roosevelt summoned the University teams and worked with them to make it safer. This was the intro to the Forward Pass, helmets, and other rules that created Modern American Football. We never called it "Football" as an insult to Soccer or anything. It was just more popular and as tradition, the name stuck. I've always known American Football as just "Football"! Its a fun sport! I always loved it! But it is dangerous!

Gridiron would be an accurate name for both American Football & Canadian Football. I think the origins of the name has to do with how the field originally looked. If a touchdown is scored on the final play of the game the extra point will only be attempted if it can make a difference to the final result, that if successful, would benefit the scoring team. Example. Team A trails by fewer than 6 points. Scores a TD on the final play of the game the game is over Team A wins. The extra point wouldn't change the outcome in a manner favorable to Team A so it's not attempted. Team A trails by 6, 7, or 8 points and scores a TD on the final play of the game. Team A will attempt the extra point or a 2 point conversion to try and tie the score or win the game. The result of the extra point or 2 point conversion attempt, will decide who wins, or if the game goes into overtime. Team A trails by more than 8 points and scores a TD as time expires. Game is over, Team B wins. No extra point or two point attempt. That's why the guy in the fantasy football part was angry. Someone scored on the last play of the game and either the first or third scenario I mentioned applies.
@Max-Films
@Max-Films Год назад
so what you're saying, is that Gridiron is played on a Football pitch? (that was a joke, jic)
@chaosXP3RT

American football, in my opinion, is the most fun to play! I've played Soccer/football, basketball and baseball. American Football is my favorite! There is lots of strategy in every play! There is lots of fun in tackling and hitting the opponents! You are always running or jumping or catching or tackling! It's a team sport! Every player matters! You can't hope to win if you only have one good player! The NFL Draft also makes sure that every team has a chance to get good players, rather than a few teams keep all of the good players! Also, American football is played in all weather, from rain and wind to snow! It's so fun to watch and play! Especially as a kid! Although, the biggest down side by far is that it can be a painful and dangerous sport.

The NFL owns a day of the week in the U.S.! Bennet Omalu and his battle to raise awareness about CTE is the inspiration behind the 2015 movie starring Will Smith. Concussion stars Will Smith as Dr. Bennet Omalu, a Nigerian-born pathologist who brought the issue of brain damage in retired NFL players to the forefront. Great movie!

I won’t lie. I played American Football as a teen and have watched it for decades. It wasn’t even till about 10 years ago I even knew what the hash marks were for and how they used them. I’ll be honest some more. The less I knew the more I enjoyed watching it. Now that I know quite a bit. I can see why my team will lose and really lose that hopeful fan wishfulness. Nickel defense, zone coverage, wham, trap, blast, A gap, field, boundary, stunt, split zone, wide zone, cover zero, cover 2, duo, China route, dig, curl, base personnel, over the top, chip, crack block, kick out, X receiver, 12 personnel, 11 personnel, squib, pooch, screen, tunnel screen, draw and on and on. Man, I don’t wanna know all that stuff. I just want to see people try and kill each other.

That is not why. It's because all the sports named football were played ON foot, by footmen. That separated/distinguished it from other sports that also moved a ball towards a goal on a horse, like Polo.

Well since we're talking about stupid f****** s*** let's talk about going to a stadium in which you have no influence on the game you just go you make noise doesn't matter you have no control over what goes on on the field you can't influence it in any way shape or form you might not even need to be there and the team would still play the same.
