Totally agree with everything you said in this video. When I am the assistant referee, I always wait for the referee's eye contact before sprinting up the touchline to be sure they also think the goal was a good goal. I do the same as the center, check for the assistant's eye contact first! I almost never use the whistle for goals, only when it appears that the ball did not cross the line completely do I then use the whistle. Once the celebrations are completed, then I like to jot down the goal in the score sheet while walking back to the center circle.

I'm sure players, fans, and coaches appreciate a ref of your caliber. Thanks for the comment.

Something that helps me: pay attention to who scored. Check their number. I started doing that for a league that records scorers, and discovered that it keeps me focused on the players for a few extra (critical) seconds.

In a game I played our keep punted the ball out of the net and hit the ref in the back of the neck. Unintentional, but you can’t do it. He was lucky he diddnt get sent off imo. At the cricket grounds in Philly I think.

I have to disagree with you on a few things. 1. It's not necessary to blow the whistle after a goal is scored, what's necessary is to point at the center circle, that's the signal that a goal has scored. If it's unclear that a goal has been scored and you want the players to be aware of your call, blowing the whistle is fine, but it's not necessary. 2. Not sure what's up what "grabbing your head" comment before recording the goal. If you want to do that, no problem, but it's not necessary. 3. If the team scoring the goal wants to bring the ball back to the center circle for a kickoff, that's fine. You want the restart to happen without delay. If the scoring team takes the ball and then is delaying the restart, that is a cautionable offense. Also remember under Law 5, the referee is the ultimate timekeeper, so any timewasting done can be added onto the end of the match.

Hi, i have to pass my exam about football rules. I am confused. Is your first sentence correct? ''It's not necessary to blow the whistle after a goal is scored''

FYI, in the video, he said 'obvious' goal. If you don't need to stop play to indicate that a goal has been scored and a kick-off restart needs to occur, then you don't need to blow the whistle. And the kick-off belongs to the DEFENDING team, the one that allowed the goal. The ball is theirs, not the team who just scored. This is a big misconception and it's what leads to commentators and spectators believing it's perfectly fine to rip the ball out of a keeper's hands to bring it back up to the center circle. It isn't okay, if the defending team is delaying a restart, it's up to the referee to deal with it.

He said if it’s an obvious goal, which is 99% of goals, don’t ever blow your whistle (“throw your whistle into the water” so you don’t use it). How you got “blow your whistle after every goal” from this I’ll never know.
