Some officials that made this complicated scenario are really twisting the minds of senior citizen, respect is supposedly be shown to this group of people they don’t have much to live and they not into reading,online, information but only need to get what they deserves by working and accumulating until they retire,instead they all have to go thru worst of their times when they working and now getting their retirement becomes another hurdle in their life. Why can’t seniors be given a simple not agonizing process in order to get their retirement? I can’t wait for any strong and sensible officials,legislators, or better yet a President that will proclaim social security is simplified for seniors !! What a big relief,a win win situations for all seniors who contributed enough or more to their hard earned salaries to taxes,and taxed again when they spend their taxed dollar already. God saved America!

The SS booklet says the PIA is adjusted by the annual COLA. Does that mean if I retire at my FRA and my wife turns her FRA 5 years later, she will get 50% of my SS + COLA increases or just 50% of my FRA benefits (of five years ago)?

Like most things from the government ROI is not looking impressive.

If you don't get an ROI, it's your own fault for dying early😂

My wife is 10 years younger than I am. Do you count COLA adjustments to your calculations? For example, I filed for SS at 62 and received $1698. Now I'm 66.8 and now collecting $2076 per month, do you calculate spousal benefits from the $1698 x 50%=$849 x 63%=$534 if she were to start collecting at 62? Or would she collect benefits off from my FRA based on 66.6 years old.

What if your wife claims her benefits at 62 and is eligible and claims spousal benefits when she is 67?

When she opens her account she opens her account. If she decides to do so at 62 she maxes out at about 30 percent. Spousal maxes out at 50 percent at her full retirement age. You cannot draw restricted and switch unless you were born before 1954.

My spouse and I are BOTH at FRA. He started taking his Social Security 3 years ago. I still work full-time and am trying to build my Social Security by working to age 70 to at least be as good as his. I was told today by an agent at Social Security that I COULD NOT take the spousal benefit because that would only be about $1500 (50% of his), and my current benefit is higher (about $2700). The agent told me I would HAVE to take my benefits because they are higher. They will not let me take spousal benefits until I can either build mine up higher OR switch to my spouse's full retirement amount once he DIES. Talk about being confused as hell.

I think your confusion is about Spousal and Survivor. Two different things.

When you choose to take it you get your own with a spousal top upnif yours is low. Spousal maxes out at 50 percent at your full retirement age. Your own might be higher. You do not get both your get yours or spousal amount. Neither my husband or I will draw spousal as our own would be higher.

Josh, thank you for all your videos and information. What if Charlotte was a teacher and never paid into SS? Does she even qualify?

Hello Josh. First I want to thank you for all the content you have shared. It has helped me understand so much more. You mentioned in this video that your goal was to wait until 70 so you will receive the extra 24%. I was going to do the same until I did the math. In my case it would take me until the age 77 to break even compared to starting at my full retirement of 66 1/3. The only downside I see is it has a bigger affect on spousal benefits. I am sure you have done the math as well, do you still feel the same way?

8% a year - 66 to 70 - 4 years x 8% = 32% more that you would get at FRA.

Josh, what if the lesser (younger), earner has a pension. Would she still get 50% of your PIA, or would she still be subject to the Windfall Elimination (WEP). Thx Semper Fi

My hubby is 73 and retired at fra. I turn 62 this year and am thinking i should take early spousal benefits now instead of waiting 5 more years because i believe when my husband passes i can switch to full survivor benefits. Am i correct that one doesnt impact the other?
@Satjr35031
@Satjr35031 5 месяцев назад
You would get around 30% of what is benefit was at his FRA .When he passes you can switch to survivor
@janetmartin9372

You are correct. Reduced spousal but full amount for survivors.

What if you are 64 and Charlotte is 72 and Charlotte started taking her social security at 66 her full retirement age. If I take at 66 and 10 months then would she get half of my benefit or ??!
@johnnyadams1755
@johnnyadams1755 Год назад
If half of your was greater than her own PIA, then her would be increased to half of yours. If hers was the greater, she would continue on with hers.
