Thanks for watching you all! Also, when I answer the question around my thoughts on online learning, i wasn't speaking in the context of Covid. I was speaking regarding actual online programs, that will continue to be via online even after vaccines are developed. Just wanted to add that context!
I am getting ready to start my MSW and looking for insights from those with experience. I enjoy your channel. Thank you for sharing those books, I am going to check them out.
Definitely do more Q and A’s! Throw up some question boxes on insta or in one of your videos tell peeps to drop a question in the comment box. your info is really helpful!
My Instagram engagement rate with the Q&A boxes be so low 😂 so that’s why I just look through my comment section. I’ll try again soon though. I’m glad you like this format! Will do more.
Finished my BSW yesterday🎉 can’t wait to start the MSW. I’m just so scared about fitting in an 8 month internship plus a FT job, plus kids and everything else
@@rachel1598 2 eight hour days per week for 8 months with a few weeks off in the middle for Christmas break!! I just accepted my internship placement yesterday in a hospital!
I'm wondering how the time commitment differs between a 2 year or 3 year online MSW? I have kids so it's hard trying to figure out which program fits in with my lifestyle and what I can realistically handle.
Would you recommend getting an LCSW if your a Social Worker going into Alcohol and Drug Counseling or anything dealing with alcohol and substance abuse?
Hi, I've been binging on your videos! They have been incredibly helpful! Do you have any videos with advice or tips on applying to an MSW program and the application process, such as obtaining reccomendations and writing the application essay? As someone who's been out of school for a while the process seems daunting. Thanks 😊
Mariah203 hello and thanks for tuning in! I actually do not. I’ll put that on my future list! Good idea there. But just know that non traditional rec letters are often allowed for students who’ve been out of school for a while !
I literally just read (listened to) How To Win Friends & Influence People yesterday! I think it's definitely a must-read. And I've been meaning to read Maybe You Should Talk To Someone. Thanks for the reminder. I'm soooo glad you made this video so when my subscribers ask me on my channel, I can link to this. 😄
I dont enjoy reading books anymore.... I want to help people, because they just talk and most times the problems fix themselves. I was stressed and the social worker I had, just listened to my problems, then they gave me a tens unit to shock myself. That made no sense. Then they tried to put me in group activities talking out my feelings, and the other VA people were straight up crazy!! Just listening to their problems made me seem sane!
I love your videos and how passionate you are! I am currently in the process of applying to MSW programs. I have my BS in Psychology and experience in Managing for 7 years. I am currently Managing an Urgent Care. I am worried I won't get into any programs without Social Work related experience. What are your thoughts and advice? Thank you in advance :)
Hello and thank you! I appreciate that. For most programs, you don’t need a social work degree or direct experience with social work to get into programs. Having experience working with people is good. My background is psych as well. I wouldn’t worry. I’m sure you have transferable skills to respond to the grad school application prompts.
Would you mind do a video on how to select the right University. What to ask the tutors, what should I look from the universities that I am going to choose? Now with pandemic most of the Universities do not do open days so it is only what you find online and what to ask the tutors
I'm doing my Bsw now... and I have a doubt that is social case work similar to pychologist's work? And I would like to add that in India, people don't know what is social work actually... they simply think social services and social work is same... and in India, there is no license required to practice social work... here the most common fields of social work is Human Resource management, community development, medical nd psychiatric social work. And one negatives of social work in India is that social workers get paid very low...
Thank you for sharing! I never knew that about India. And social workers do have an option to go the therapy route which does have similarities to the work of a psychologist. But there is also a mezzo and macro option too which I do and isn’t as similar to psychology
Your makeup always look so clean and fresh! I've heard the audio for the Dale Carnegie, a years back and I loved it. I may have to revisit. I definitely want to read the New Jim Crow...TFS
Thank you! I appreciate that, I try lol. And yea I love revisiting good books because I interpret them differently depending on what’s currently going on in my life. And definitely check out the New Jim Crow!
WhAT. This is the first time hearing you have to PAY to get LCSW hours supervised 😱 I know it's really my fault for not doing thorough research but what the hell how come literally no one is up front about this?!! I always thought "supervised hours" meant you just find a lcsw to hire you to work for them. So if they typically charge up to $100 for an hour, does that mean you're eventually paying $300,000 since you have to have 3000 hours to get the lcsw????
Hello! I just looked back on an email thread with a social worker who provides supervision and she quoted me $75 an hour! That’s still outlandish if I need 3000 hours. I’m sure she misspoke?? Honestly I never followed up, so please do more research on this based on your state. Also, most social workers get licensed by working under a supervisor who is licensed and in that case, they don’t have to pay. But myself, I don’t work under a licensed supervisor so I’d have to get an outside supervisor, which cost. I want to stay at my current job, so that is my option.
I’m applying to UC Berkeley. I doubt I’ll get in but wonder how difficult the program is especially if I have to take stats. I’m not a math person at all.
Hi Gabby! Really quick but I have my bachelors in Criminal Justice, do you know of a way I can become licensed without having to go back to school to get my bachelors in SW?
Mind your Society Thank you for your reply , I looking to do the same. I am a sociology major and psych minor. I graduate soon and watching your videos are eye opening. :)
Hello Gabbie 🤗, thank you for all the information. I’m planning on changing my career path and social work is something I think will enjoy doing.I have a Bachelor in Biotechnology, but I was thinking about doing a Master in Social Work. I don’t know if this is allowed or even if it is, do you think I’m going to be able to get a job only with a Master degree ? In your experience do you know someone in my situation ? Please can you give me some advice ? 😥
Hi! And thank you so much for watching. You don’t need any one particular bachelors degree to get a Masters of SW. so no worries about that. And most social workers only have bachelors and masters. I only have a masters. So yes you can get a job with only a Masters.
Your point on license for bsw. I thought this counted for specific states. In New York State you have to have a masters to be and LMSW. Some please further explain if I am wrong. But I don’t think this is true for every state.
You need a Masters to become a LMSW, but not to become licensed in general. You can be licensed with just a BA and different state’s call it just a RSW or LBSW (varying titles depending on location)...it just wouldn’t have the M In it ( for Masters) but a B. The different titles state to state are so confusing!
Mind your Society thanks for clarifying. I’m not sure if you have spoken about this yet, but, can you speak on taking social work interns, if you have had the opportunity to do so. What is your experience interning social work students vs. when you had to do your social work internship?
After completing my BSW and MSW, I have joined in a primary school as teacher. Now I want to study MSW in a Canadian University. My question is how can I relate my profession to my subject and make a strong Statement of Purpose??
Princess Udeh I received a great scholarship from being the the McNair Scholars program in undergrad. And I took out loans as well. I also worked through grad school which helped a little.
@@MindyourSociety Heyyy! I’m so glad I saw this comment and I hope you reply. I’m currently in my Junior year of undergrads. I recently been looking into joining the McNair program at my university. Can you please tell me your experience in the program? Thank you so much
