I just released a 2nd video using regular soda on rusty trailer hubs... Here: • Soda Blasting with REG...
Needed to prep some junkyard wheels for a cheap rattle can paint job, for the farm trailer. Soda blasting with regular baking soda worked well to deep clean the wheels, and if I had used more material I could have taken the paint off as well.

I think with a muriatic acid wash then wash it off, then a day or so later after letting it totally dry out in hot weather well use some mild torch heat on the metal before primer would work. I use about the same process after using coal media. That gets tricky with them Harbor Freight blasters even the old Ames blasters have trouble with certain medias. I have 2 of em one works when it works the others been good to me for years and they are nearly Identical. I actually bought a NEOGEN ball valve for the Harbor Freight its what makes the Ames blaster work so good. I just ain't put that on yet. I am itching to try it soon as the weather warms up. An acid wash can also soften hard brittle paint to the point is the soda might just be enough if ya use acid is my point. Using heat as ya primer also makes a huge diff in how the new paint holds up even if ya use cheap paint it lasts a while. I have rims I did like 8 years ago and they still ain't bad not at all.

wait what ? U tube threw this video up immediately after watching an actually useful video on soda blasting aluminum heads heads because sand isnt an option and left over glass beads if not removed will wipe out the engine you install it on. You are blasting a STEEL wheel correct ? unless you got a lot of FREE soda lying around and simply to lazy to get some sand and maybe your are using a very very very large commercial sand blaster ? why on earth would you use soda ? That is sorta like sanding down a car to prep for painting but instead of using 400 grit wet sanding papaer you decided to use bounty kitchen towels instead ? not saying it will not work but dont you value your time ? Soda is something you want to use when cleaning your wife's copper pans and pots because it will not scratch or harm anything. That is a road wheel made out of steel sand or glass beads is what is best and if powder coated aluminum oxide media .
