The average band camp that followed his passion just ended up working a separate career immediately after high school. Dudes who follow sports get scouted all the time at high schools, it's a college tradition to go out to local high schools and scout for potential talent for their college teams. You're not expected to not make it to the NFL, but you are expected to make it the college level. Nine times out of ten, the consistent athletes of your highschool are going straight to college to play at a College level, broadcasted on television for every game. Their stats are going to be listed online, where multi-billion dollar funded scouts from the NFL are looking at on a constant basis alongside highlights. Nine times out of ten, the band kids in your school aren't going anywhere post high school musical related. The clarinet kid's going to be a doctor, the drummer-boy's going to be a teacher, the pianist god is going to be a McDonalds employee. The most they get out of anything is going to college, but there's little air-opening for musical majors. I don't know where people get this idea that music pays off in the long run, because it doesn't. At least people striving to go to the NFL have the NCAA, the musical people don't have a NCAA. For those who drop out of the NCAA, they literally just become doctors or lawyers or whatever. They aren't majoring in the NCAA, they're majoring in separate studies. The NCAA is an additive of their college experience, the NCAA isn't a work of study. The star QB is going to be majoring in criminal justice, the star WR is going to be majoring in computer science. Being in the NCAA isn't seen as a major. People know that the NFL is of the 1% within the football world, everyone's got a plan B. From that alone, compared to music majors, they have more job opportunities. Music majors don't pay off whatsoever. Ever.
