Writers: We’ll have a joke where Jimmy calls salt sodium chloride and Skeet doesn’t understand Internet:

The day that Skeet speaks up, is the day we achieve world peace.

This feels like Skeet is trying to tell Jimmy to not become Rick Sanchez.

Jimmy opened the door to his parent's house and stepped inside. He just stood there, at the landing, for a moment. From the kitchen, a shuffling was heard, and Jimmy's mother came into the living room. "Oh Jimmy, you're home early. I'm making something special for dinner tonight. How was your day?" Jimmy looked up and smiled softly. There was so much he wanted to say. All those years that he treated his mother like... like she wasn't his mother. Like she was a servant. All those things Skeeter said... "It was good, mother. How... how was your day?" Her eyes shone with some emotion he couldn't place. "My day? Well, I... I must admit I was a little lonely. I miss having you and your father around. That's awfully kind of you, to ask about my day. Actually, I started a sewing project today..." She went on about the pattern she found and what fabric she chose to sew it with, the thread she tried first, and how it turned out far too weak to handle the weight of the fabric so she had to start over. Jimmy came into the kitchen and sat down, listening with rapt attention. He never knew she was so skilled. They spoke like that for a while, Jimmy asking questions about her methods and her preferences in thread count, as she worked on dinner. Just as she finished, his father arrived from work. His father, who worked so hard to earn his family a living. His father tried to be smart like his son and fit in with Jimmy's peers. He wanted so badly to show his son how much he loved him. Really, what more could Jimmy ask for? How had he taken all of this for granted? Shouldn't he of all people his age know better? "Jimmy! My smart boy. How was your day at work?" Jimmy felt a pang in his chest and he didn't understand why. "I had an enlight--" he paused. His dad might not know what that word meant. "Er, I had an eye-opening day at work today. I learned some new things that I'm sure will help me live my life better." His father grinned, looking almost baffled. "Wow, that's... fantastic, son! Tell us, what did you learn?" He looked down at his hands. He had used them to build many, many things and to learn a great deal. Yet, today, he learned more than he had in all his years of scientific endeavor. He vowed to himself, then, to use his hands for better purposes. He didn't know what yet, but he would learn. "I learned that there's more to life than science and knowledge. I learned that sometimes it's better to share time with your family than build a super-computing medical robot." He sighed. "I learned that... my friends need me for more than my inventions." He looked up, to both of them. "Father, Mother, thank you. For feeding me, and caring for me, and working so hard. I thought I was being helpful, building all those things, but really I was being selfish. So... let me know if you need someone to wash the car, or take out the garbage. I want to help. It's the least I can do." His father's lip was quivering, and tears threatened to fall from his eyes. "Oh son," he said, and the tears fell, and Jimmy found himself wrapped in a warm hug. His mother burst into tears and wrapped her arms around both of them. Jimmy wondered how he'd lived without this. "I'm sorry. I'll be a better son, I promise," and he wondered why his voice shook as he spoke. "I love you, mom and dad."

Jimmy may have mentioned the sodium chloride, but I think he’s now buried by the salt.

I can't tell is this was meant to be a roast, a character analysis, or a therapy session. That's the quality McSpanky's treatment.

Idk what’s funnier: the fact that this man actually referenced several pieces of Jimmy Neutron lore or the fact that he’s presumably giving this speech to a child.

I don't know how the internet got around to using a minor fast-food employee from an old Nickelodeon show as a mouthpiece for cold-hard rationality but I respect it.

As one of the “gifted” kids who acted like Jimmy when I was younger, this actually hit really hard and I’m glad I learned this lesson young so I could sit back and laugh at this video instead of going through a crisis

Imagine being a customer there and having to watch someone completely destroy a kid with words for 5 minutes before asking for a burger

Whenever I see long rants like this, I get a bad feeling in the back of my throat or in my chest or something thats like "Dude, I would ABSOLUTELY listen to every word of this...but are THEY gonna listen? Are they even gonna care or read it? They might just instantly mock you and learn nothing, all that effort down the drain..." I get a sense of dread for the poor soul trying to talk to people. However, I do think that Jimmy is, ironically, one of the only people who WOULD listen, since despite his ego, he seems like the kind of kid who, deep down, is still going to use his brain and listen, I feel like he is the kind of guy who cares about the lecture if you will. He's studious and smart as is, right? Why wouldn't he be likely to listen?

I really like how this is more of a therapy session than a roasting. The advice is great and he wasn't too disrespectful and personal.

Okay, but why does this sound like they turned Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius into an anime... And THIS is the monologue at the climax of the season.

Skeet was right up until the end. Despite the intelligence gap, The Neutrons genuinely seem like a happy, and surprisingly functional family for a cartoon. Jimmy and his Dad are shown hanging out at length and they enjoy each other’s company. Jimmy did invent stuff for his Mom ( a lot of the time she’ll refuse because she likes to do it her way ). Also it’s not like Jimmy doesn’t respect his parents, they’ve been shown on numerous occasions disciplining Jimmy. How many times has Judy said Jimmy’s full name “James Issac Neutron “ . Also you can’t say that Jimmy doesn’t value his friends, a lot of his schemes start because they’re bored or they want to do something, it’s not like Jimmy acts like he’s above them, they do normal kid stuff.

I love how when the show first aired the joke was “haha skeeter is a classic dumb teenager” But as time went on the story was entirely changed

Head canon: Skeeter was actually like this at some point, possibly in psychology (which is how he could analyze the behaviors of those mentioned). His dad left when he was around 12 because of his behavior and it was the wake up call he needed to turn his life around. He doesn’t want jimmy to go through that, especially not at his age.

Dear Skeet, It's been 16 years since we had a very difficult conversation. Having finally graduated college I still found myself discontent by what you said. The primary thesis of your tirade was this: that my intelligence was my personality and that my ego was… substantial to say the least. That because of these two items, I will be unable to make true, meaningful human connections in this life. Don’t get me wrong, I AGREED with what you said. Perhaps that’s why the words stung the most. At the time we had the conversation, I often went out of my own way to voraciously seek praise. But this was due to the nonstop decade-to that point-of derision and self-hate. I had to mask my insecurities with a sense of self-importance. Not that you offered me much room to healthily discuss this, instead immediately firing me on the spot. While I appreciate what the words you said meant on the surface, I couldn’t help but sense a bubbling undercurrent of your own insecurity piloting the true intention of your words. If we are to discuss true, underlying motivations, Skeet, we have to take into account a full 360 degree view. The words ‘sodium chloride’ held a very special place in my heart at the time. I said a lot of things back then that make me cringe today, and I had to learn to re-love myself. But I think most people experience that. It actually made me cry when my therapist said I was allowed to love that off-beat kitschy 11-year-old me. To me, the words ‘sodium chloride’ represented-not my intelligence-but my interests. My grandfather, who worked in a science lab, would often play games with me as a kid that involved the periodic table; my saying ‘sodium chloride’ brought a lot of familiarity into the workplace at McSpanky's. Neither do you, Skeet. The words ‘sodium chloride’ aren’t a curse word. If they make me happy to say, do you really have to explain to me why my authenticity undermines you? Just let me cook, man. And the next time you feel the need to let your emotions off your chest, seek professional help first. You don’t need a brain blast to know it’s not cool to dump your emotions onto a kid that’s barely left grade school. You know this would be a great clap back, but it clearly violates McSpankies tm Employee incident protocol, also Jimmy Neutron (despite being an egotist who deserves it) reserves the right to take it up with HR (without retaliation) and make a claim that A harassment incident occurred (this includes anyone in management) so that the proper disciplinary procedures (if corporate deems it) are carried out up to and including termination. There is a reason why he does not call Jimmy out as he is currently employed at McSpankies tm and must follow the proper management protocol, If anything this is only his first incident and does not require coaching, however it probably would not matter given that Skeet failed to prevent Jimmy from tampering with company property thus resulting in Many OSHA violations and irreputable brand damage as well as injury claims from the sentient restaurant robot when it was doing its illegal anti trust violating hostile takeovers against its competitors as well as costing several thousands of dollars from non essential power consumption used by Jimmies needlessly complicated computational matrix servers, as well as the AI mainframe he installed without corporate consent and protocol. You talk down to me like I’m some sociopathic monster for the way I act, but you haven’t lived even one minute in my shoes. I’m smart enough to invent robots out of toasters and even a rocket ship out of an amusement park ride, sure, but I’m also still 11 years old. Any 11 year old... no, any person would want to feel like something they feel confident in is worthy of praise and admiration to even the smallest degree. When you were my age, did you not talk for long periods about even the smallest of accomplishments, just hoping for someone to say so much as a ‘good job’ for it? Every time I invent something, I do it because it’s what makes me happy, and I want to feel like the people around me might appreciate it too, and just reward me with a simple acknowledgement that I can be special, that I don’t have to limit myself or my ambitions just to be appreciated, that I can earn them by doing the thing I feel best suits me. Yet, I still have to go to the same school as everyone else my age, even if what I learn there doesn’t stimulate my mind. Everyone moans and groans when I show them something that I dedicated my time to, yet I have to pretend it doesn’t get to me when they just as easily cheer for something as simple as Nick telling a ghost story in class or Cindy pulling a childish prank on me. And, you know what, that would be fine! All of that could be fine on its own if I wasn’t then instead mocked and ridiculed for being me. I know everyone gets bullied at my age at some point, but at least many of them have the option go off with their friends who share common interests and feel validated for it. Imagine being treated like a total loser just because you can’t play baseball or run track, only to suddenly be treated like an egomaniac when you show off what you CAN do better than them. For some reason, I’m immediately invalidated as a someone worthy of respect the second I’m not good at something, and everyone conveniently forgets whatever cool invention I was able to create a literal week before. So not only are my inventions ignored and treated like bragging or a nuisance when they do get public attention, they also become completely forgotten the second that they don’t. I’m sorry that I just wanted to be treated like i was special for something I cared about, I only took this job so I could keep following my passions, as I’m certain you’ve done just as well. Don’t forget you’ve hired people that aren’t even old enough to legally work in this country, yet still choose to berate me for oversights I made throughout. I didn’t know that it was an issue to not push the buttons on the register to confirm an order, and I apologize for not having done so in the first place. But you also threw us kids into a job with little training, and even told me just from a glance that I’m not good enough to work for you. You even talked badly about me to my own friends about my performance, who you may have noticed didn’t even bother defending me. I needed to hear this when I was younger. When I was very young I was easily beyond my classmates in a classroom setting, and because of this I received constant praise about how smart I was. To spare you all the L:R, you can guess what that did to my young ego. And by extension how I saw myself and my classmates. Since then I’ve significantly mellowed out and made my “intellect” no longer the entire core of my personality, (to top it off I’m not sure I was that smart to begin with, just good at school stuff) I would have had MANY more friends in school growing up if I’d heard this. This is the prompt that makes me actually interested in Jimmy Neutron's universe now. I'd fucking pay if the guy that wrote that speech made a continuation of what Jimmy did after his speech. Jimmy wandering around, dazed, looking at everyone and everything in a different perspective. I NEED IT.

I genuinely think this whole conversation happened, because there are episodes where Jimmy tries to connect with the people around him. I remember one with his dad where they brought up that both him and Jimmy just have a hard time interacting because they both like challenges, it's just that what one considers a challenge is what the other considers to be either Child's Play or advanced college-level thinking. I don't remember if they found some other third thing to bond over, or if they just accepted it and decided to instead try to show more that they appreciate each other. I also more vividly remember one where they did be looking to the Future thing, and showed a old Jimmy Neutron who was all alone and bitter and desperate for connection, which overall had him show more Fox to his friends. I also remember an episode with Sheen where he gets hyper intelligent, and even get smarter than Jimmy. But he ends up going mad with power, so when Jimmy remove that he's genuinely thankful and states that he doesn't understand how Jimmy doesn't do the same thing. I believe Jimmy's response basically water down to "I have you guys." Edit: I don't think they ever had a mom episode that wasn't just the stereotypical Mother's Day episode. I think I was more of a problem with the times then anything else. But yeah, I genuinely think that Skeeter may have actually had a more child-friendly version of this conversation, and this combined a few other episodes led to Jimmy genuinely caring about his friends. Because I remember later on, he genuinely makes inventions for his friends and not for himself to be praised by his friends. I remember an episode where they had to do a project on Egypt, I believe it was specifically Libby. And so Jimmy blew them to Egypt, not to show off not to do anything like that, just because it would be easier than reading a textbook. I also remember later on he starts to figure out how to work with his friends the most. He knows is not going to learn by being in a classroom, so a lot of the ways he teaches Sheen stuff is physically showing him what he needs to learn. Letting him interact with it helps a lot. He figures out Carl needs someone to keep him focused, otherwise he's going to get distracted. He also eventually figures out, though takes forever because of the density that makes up his skull and brain matter, that the girl who bullies him but also seems to enjoy being around him likes him. I remember this one taking the longest, as it starts with him trying to be openly caring towards her, then only doing it when they're in private because he realizes it would make her uncomfortable, and eventually they both get comfortable enough to do it in front of their close knitted friend group. I think due to these interactions in learning to not define himself by intelligence, Jimmy would have actually grown up to make a fantastic teacher, working with his students as individuals instead of "here is the cookie cutter lesson". How he has the potential to be his own Miss Frizzle, taking the kids on wild Adventures, not to show off, but to physically show them what they're learning.

This hits hard and should be seen as a lesson to everyone who took friends and family for granted.

Maybe it’s selfish to want people to treat me like my gifts means even the slightest bit of anything to them, but, again, let me inquire just what 11 year old wouldn’t want that? And you know what? Sometimes I do get that. Sometimes I can invent something everyone in the town thinks is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but you know what? Science isn’t a guaranteed process. There’s bound to be miscalculations and flaws and margins of errors in any experiment, as mine typically have. But suddenly, I’m the bad guy all because I wanted to cool down the heat on a summers day and the town gets stuck in an ice age. You think I planned for that to happen? No, but it’s the risk that comes from creating something, it can always backfire in some way. But the town doesn’t care if I’ve done good deeds for them, or if I invented something they themselves loved just as much as I did, they just care that it didn’t work out 100% perfectly, and then I’m back to being ridiculed for the things I find passion in. I don’t blame them to be upset, sure, but this cycle gets tiring time and time again. For once, I just want to hold one conversation with someone that actually keeps ME invested, instead of always having to keep my mouth shut to hear yet again about the 100 millionth episode of Ultra Lord, or about every single species of duck in existence. I listen, I smile, and I even engage the conversation as best I can, and I think that’s the most a guy can do talking to his friends and family about things he finds little interest in. But the second I want to show off something that I like or talk about something that interests me, I don’t even get a courteous ‘mhm’ and nod while I talk. Instead they just immediately ask me to ‘talk in English’ instead or compromise what I want to talk about, even though I never ask that of them and their topics of interest. And, you know what, that would be fine! All of that could be fine on its own if I wasn’t then instead mocked and ridiculed for being me. I know everyone gets bullied at my age at some point, but at least many of them have the option go off with their friends who share common interests and feel validated for it. Imagine being treated like a total loser just because you can’t play baseball or run track, only to suddenly be treated like an egomaniac when you show off what you CAN do better than them. For some reason, I’m immediately invalidated as a someone worthy of respect the second I’m not good at something, and everyone conveniently forgets whatever cool invention I was able to create a literal week before. So not only are my inventions ignored and treated like bragging or a nuisance when they do get public attention, they also become completely forgotten the second that they don’t. I’m sorry that I just wanted to be treated like i was special for something I cared about, I only took this job so I could keep following my passions, as I’m certain you’ve done just as well. Don’t forget you’ve hired people that aren’t even old enough to legally work in this country, yet still choose to berate me for oversights I made throughout. I didn’t know that it was an issue to not push the buttons on the register to confirm an order, and I apologize for not having done so in the first place. But you also threw us kids into a job with little training, and even told me just from a glance that I’m not good enough to work for you. You even talked badly about me to my own friends about my performance, who you may have noticed didn’t even bother defending me. That just goes to prove how little any of you take the time to actually understand my feelings or even stop to ask yourselves why I might try to show off for a little attention so much. Instead you immediately judge me like everyone else, and I’m sick of having to sit around and just take it. Give me my pink slip, I don’t need to sit around and listen to you berate me, like everyone else in my life has done time and time again. I don’t want to change who I am just because it might make you think less of me, I want to feel like I can be proud of who and what I am. I’m not giving up on the one thing that makes me feel special and gives me joy just because everyone else thinks it’s annoying. And if that is enough to make everyone hate me, maybe I never needed your conditional love and respect in the first place. Gotta blast.

The fascinating part about this is that in early episodes of Jimmy Neutron, Jimmy was more insecure about his needs as a kid, almost worrying about his social status and his approach on girls and others. It kinda interesting on how the theme shifted later. Makes you think what Jimmy was after the fire nation attacked.

When I was in the 4th grade, I was in the Gifted and Talented program in my elementary school. I didn’t have many friends, as I had moved in from around 1,500 miles away the year prior. I used this as an opportunity to make new friends, but whenever people not in the Gifted and Talented class approached me, wanting to play at recess, I turned them away due to them not being “smart enough.” I was a miserable bastard that year. And the next year, I continued that trend, rejecting people because they weren’t smart enough. I would also question why I did not make any friends, why I wasn’t invited to any sleepovers. Later that year, I started talking more to someone not in the “smarter” classes because of our common interests. I realized that I shouldn’t be such a smug little prick that summer, and luckily that stopped before I reached middle school that September. Now I’m a helluva lot less lonely, because bragging about your academic achievements, surprise, surprise, makes you an egotistical prick that nobody wants to hang out with. Sadly, some of my former classmates have not learned that lesson quite yet, and they still have the same dysfunctional friend group from elementary school. They’re hella miserable because nobody else wants to hang out with them, and they all have nothing in common with each other besides being in the Gifted classes in elementary school. I really hope they learn the lesson I did soon. Nobody’s probably gonna read this, but I’m just going to leave it here because I needed to get that off my brain.
