I review the Sofirn SP35T flashlight - the tactical version of the SP35. This is a great value tactical light, especially if you're just getting started.

Sofirn SP35T Transcript
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• So I've owned the Sofirn SP35 for a long time now, it was actually one of the first flashlights I purchased maybe 2 years ago when I got back into collecting them. It's an excellent all-rounder but I started using it less and less once I got into tactical lights. Turns out Sofirn has a tactical version of the SP35, the SP35T! Sofirn has provided me this sample of the SP35T for this review.
• What's in the box? 21700 cell, metal pocket clip, USB-C charging cable, lanyard, and spare o-rings.
• Comparison with SP35, Fenix PD35.
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
• The construction quality is good, especially at this price point. No imperfections or rough spots. The lettering and battery are lined up nicely as well - it's not always that way with budget lights. Some cutouts on the side of the head + checkered knurling on the body/tailcap. Double-sided clip, USB-C charging port.
• Side switch doubles as battery indicator, and is made of metal. The tailcap features one large rubber button, and two raised edges allowing the light to tail-stand. Sideswitch only works when tailswitch is activated first.
• XHP50B in 6000-6500K - paired with OP reflector. This is probably to make the beam profile more even and remove the donut hole you see with some of these larger profile LEDs. Crenulated bezel but no sharp points. Should be fine for security checkpoints, planes, etc.
UI - modes
• Two modes - tactical and general lighting mode - switch between them by holding the side switch when the light is on. LED flashes twice to indicate the mode switch. ECO shortcut (5 lumens), hold the side switch while pressing tail switch.
• General lighting mode:
○ Press the tail switch to turn on + activate memory mode. Press the side switch for eco, LMH. Double-press the side switch for the turbo. Triple click for strobe, double press from here for SOS, beacon.
• Tactical mode:
○ Tailswitch - shortcut to turbo. Press the side switch for medium/turbo. One tap+one click = strobe. Strobe/SOS/beacon is also accessible from the side switch by double clicking.
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT
• Lots of floody light with a large central hotspot. Though there's more fun factor with those pencil-thin beams from the W1/W2, this beam profile is much more useful.
Considerations
• Maybe I'm biased but I was hoping this light would throw further, but 280m is more than adequate for most urban scenarios.
• Steps down a lot from turbo! I can't confirm but think there is a FET driver in this light. You can also reactivate turbo.
• Would have liked a lower moonlight mode @ 1 lumen
Verdict
• This is probably one of the best value budget 21700 tactical flashlights out there. You get everything you need in the box + accessories and I like how you can change from general to tactical mode for home use. It's not the throwiest tactical light in my collection, but it definitely holds up and also produces a heap of light for its size. It's not much larger than my Fenix PD35R.

I have been carrying nothing but that light for a year, almost to the day now!!! The even and very bright, broad pattern of the XHP 50.2 is so much better for defensive situations than pencil beams like SFT40's. When only a few feet away , the pencil beams are almost impossible to cover both of an attackers eyes( If you only get one eye - he will get you!!). This is one of the best lights for" Flash, Bash and Dash" threat evasion. Put it into tactical mode and you never have to worry, first press of the button is always turbo. I like that only the tail switch can turn the light on because I have had Thrunite TN12 Pro's turn on with the side switch in my pocket, even when locked out and burned holes in 3 pockets. Never had an accidental activation with the SP35T in a year of everyday carry. All 3 of my SP35T's hit just under the advertised 3800 lumens at turn on in my lumen tube. It lights up my backyard to 80 yards like "city street light kinda bright" and covers half the yard which is great if your looking to find what set off one of the motion sensors! After you've used it in a few different situations you'll find that that "floody 5 lumen moonlight is pretty useful and actually only as bright at 1-2 meters as a pencil beam at 1 lumen becauser it is spread out so much.

Agree 100%. Flooders with an intense center spot make the best blinding flashlights against adversaries - both human and dogs. With pencil beam throwers one has to be very accurate when aiming at the eyes. Don't mind my asking you, what batteries do you use in your three SP35Ts? I'm using the blue Molicel M50A 21700 for both my SP35T and Wurkkos TD04. 🙂

@@StratmanII Molicel P42A and P45B as well as Samsung 50S. They all hit about the same Lumens. Mostly I run a Samsung in it and use the Molicel cells in flashlights where they give more than the Samsungs. ( Q8+ for example)

@@scotscheideman9800 Thank ye kindly! 🙏 I have a pair of Molicel P42As and decided that they should go into my Sofirn SC33 and Wurkkos TS23. VapCells INR batteries are slightly more affordable, so I'm experimenting with their button top M35 (18650) and their flat top G50 and G45 (21700). I'm going to look at the Samsung 50S series of batteries next. My first 21700 cells are the ones from Wurkkos and Sofirn. They're not bad but they don't really have super low internal resistance values. I was informed that the Lishen company of China makes these rebranded batteries. 🔦🔋

Finally, a flashlight which I have gotten two months earlier than Darren Yeo did! 🔦😝 Welcome to the club, mate! About two years ago the SP35T was also offered with the SFN43 emitter and it appears that lately it's only available in the XHP 50.2 guise. I had expected this to be a floody-throwy torch since its reflector has a textured OP surface, plus it's using a domed XHP 50.2. When I received mine, I noticed that the inner side of the lens had a fine layer of condensation. I happened to be watching one of your earlier videos in which you had unscrewed the reflector head of another flashlight and without thinking, did the same. To my surprise, the SP35T's head came off easily and the lens and O-ring gasket also came apart. Wasted no time in reaching for my alcohol swab and thoroughly wiped off the misty layer. What I didn't notice was that I had tightened the head a bit too far, causing the "Hot" triangle to become misaligned with the side switch. It took me a week to realize that the misalignment was my fault and not due to the factory's negligence. Slowly rotated the reflector head back and the logo is now in alignment with the side switch. 😀 I ordered this together with the Wurkkos TD04. I noted that the SP35T lacks the latter's anti-reflective coating on the glass and it doesn't have a separate Moonlight mode. Wish it also had a buck driver as the FET driver is said to be unregulated. Anyway, after I had covered the 21700 tactical lights I moved down to the 18650 versions, where I am now. 🙂

@DarrenYeoYT 24 дня назад
Seems like you beat me to it hey 😂 I find using a hairdryer on the internals can help to dry out condensation, then you can screw the head back on. But this also happens naturally in very high output lights like any imalent light over 10K lumens.
@StratmanII
@StratmanII 23 дня назад
@@DarrenYeoYT You have a ton of torches and as a professional flashlight reviewer, I would naturally assume a popular model like the SP35T has been in your collection for years, mate! 🔦🔦🔦😎 Better late than never! 😁 No Imalent for me. Even the MS18 is way too powerful to use in my neighborhood. It's one of those things that is nice to have, but also gives me diminishing returns. Plus the fact that those portable suns have sealed, non swappable batteries and require proprietary chargers. I could probably use ten more Convoys than a single Imalent MS18. 😀

I just hate how you can't turn the light on or off with using just the side switch. You got to use one button to turn it on and then another to switch thru brightness levels, then back to the other button to turn it off again. If they made it where you can use the side switch to turn it on and off and go through brightness modes and the use of the tail switch for an instant Turbo or strobe like for example Olight's Warrior series, I'd buy everyone of their lights! 💯

And of course I'll keep it short every one of your videos involves tactical lights and now I'm completely lost lol but this would be perfect a flashlight that works off of 21,700 I have literally boxes of them not even open batteries and I know the power that the 20700 and the 21,700 can put out over top of an 18650 device of any kind I'm going to watch the video now I won't comment on anything else but this would be as big as I would want to go I'm sure they're expensive hopefully you have prices and links in your descriptions but I would rather get your personal opinion on what I asked in the previous message that's it thank you again your videos Rock I've seen a bunch of people reviewing lights there's a dude in the UK as I mentioned it seems to have a huge following but he tends to do a lot of high-end lights that are the same category but out of my price range and all different companies and the last three videos I've watched were lights that he could shoot a beam over 2 me I don't need that if that's you I apologize I didn't even look but I will know if you go outside he always does his test and a field then he shines down the side of a hill into the city

All good, happy to answer questions, just trying to figure out how I can help. Have you tried looking into Convoy flashlights? They're excellent value and some are very bright, like the L8 or L21B.

I see you're in Australia I apologize about this comment I said I wasn't going to do it again but I clicked on the Amazon link I know it's probably to your country is that the same as US dollars stupid question I know and I see combos popping up what exactly is that consisting of the light you have now and this video and what else? It's very well priced I'll have to look at some more videos but I'll try not to comment that right there would be perfect if it had a way to lock in the last power

Nothing, it has to be on via tailswitch for the side switch to work.
