Soft Pastel Review - Faber Castell 

I inherited a box of FC hard sticks many years ago and as a beginner I didn’t know how they performed compared to other brands. I have no experience with any others so your video was especially helpful. So glad to know how they stack up against other brands and that you like them so much. Love your comparison videos. Its funny to hear someone across the pond complain they cant get an art supply! Geez...you guys have alllll the good stuff over there! Outrageous shipping and duty is kinda what we have to expect since most art supply stores dont carry a big range of those things and if they have it boy its pricey!

Thanks a lot. And to answer the comments before mine, as far as i know, pastels are either oil or soft. In soft pastel, there is different degrees of hardness, from the hard conté to the really soft (sennelier, schmincke). But they are all soft pastel and not oil or waxed based. So Mr. Morgan is right to call them soft.

Nice review. Polychromos lightfastness ratings are actually much better than Nupastel, especially for reds, pinks, purples, oranges and some greens, which are fugitive in Nupastel. In the U.S, they don’t sell Polychromos open stock anymore though.

If you want the BEST black on the market try Girault 526 Candle Black from Dakota Pastels

Unfirtunateley Faber Castell has recently discontinued the polychromos pastel sticks all together. Woukd you also please take the initiative with your fellow artists in the UK and write an e-mail to the Faber Castel website at contact and put a request in to gave this pastel reinstated in the Program line. I do have Nu pastel put they don't gave the same colors coordinating with the rest of the Polychromos line. I alrady put a request in myself in the US. We csn only get individual sets of 24 or 36 if one is lucky to find leftovers at outrageous prices. You now pay more for a set of 36 than what a set 60 cist 3 years ago. They used to have sets of 120 which are impossible to find at all. Please write an e mail. Artists need to stick together.

i like them a lot, they have very much intense colors.

I got Nupastels, just the 24 set when they were on super sale. Just to try pastels along with stabilo pastel pencils and some Derwent pastel pencils. I can't use alcohol for under painting and the Nu Pastels blend and fix so nicely with just water.😊

I'm happy to see Faber Castell works great. It is a brand I rely on not just because the quality is great but because of ethics. I loved how others performed too in your review but the others still use animal ingredients which makes them not cruelty-free brands...whereas Faber Castell does this right. I want to do some of your classes, so now I know which pastels I should buy :) thanks.

I'd rather have more colors than those metalic ones . Especially in such a limited set . I never understood really why alot of brands include metalics in their fine art sets when they really don't have serve a fine art application . More of a crafter thing but oh wells .

What kinds of paper are these sticks suitable on?

Hi! Can you blend them with water as some do with soft paatels? I've seen faber caatell water soluble soft pastels which I'd really like to try. I like to blend carbon with water and acrylics. Thanks😉

I can not for the life of me find the Full set(or the small sets for that matter) anywhere. Don't they make them anymore? :(

What about a comparison between nupastel black vs panpatel black?

And how about the colornames/Numbers? Do they correspondent with the pastel pencils or with the polychromos?
