Those 2004/2005 McD's Neopets had a nice amount of quality for a happy meal toy. Two of the few times I ever wanted a whole bunch from a happy meal toy set.
I'm not sure about this specific factory, but speaking from experience some of us who design, cut, screen print, or create anything understand that there are some things that you cannot do comfortably sitting down and you need to stand......I am one of those people! I can't cut fabric sitting down, I have to stand.... But hey, these people sadly need work and low income factories provide their means of living, there is no choice. There are many of us that have had experiences where we were treated unfairly at work, and it still exists today. Unfortunately, despite government debates about fair wages, better conditions, equal pay, being paid the minimum wage (which IMO is well under what people actually need) we are still living in the dark ages! Business is about profit, nothing else
@@chriscaine7689 granted, some jobs you can't do sitting down. it's factory work, what do people expect? i swear, some people need to spend a summer doing landscaping or roofing and learn what real work is. want better wages at work? get rid of the minimum wage. all a MW does is create a poverty level. if you raised it to $100/hr. then that's what the new poverty level would look like once markets adjusted. all you would accomplish is destroying your economy and the life savings of people who did real work all their lives.
I remember these toys! They were my favorite ones of all time and I still have them. The amount of work put into them is very clear. I'm so impressed by it ;; They deserve to be paid very well.
Amazing how so much work went into making these McDonald happy meal toy. The toys look like good quality ones in this factory, yet the ones we usually get in the actual meal seem more cheap and crappy. I think all these works should get a raise for all this tidiest work. My mom use to work in a clothing factory as a seemstress for over 18 years and the conditions were worst than this factory but she did get pay well.
The sad truth is that they get paid very little but it is enough to buy/rent a house in China. This is also the reason why companies and even people online, outsource merchandise to China or Taiwan, because of how little pay the workers get. It's that easy to hire a manufacturer if you have the requirements.
Pretty much all plush are sewn by hand. The work is too fine for machines to do well, least right now it is. These plush artists are very skilled! I just hope working conditions are fair for them / they get paid a living wage.
@@RC.- nah, it's impossible for a machine alone to be able to sew complex seams, such as on gussets or darts! People HAVE used embroidery machines to sew flat pieces, like spikes or wings, in the past though :D!
Its weird that my toys have been to China and I haven't. And if you buy one abroad, its been from China, shipped to the country you holidayed in and then home with you! I hope these people live a safe life and get paid what they deserve. As much as my plushies have improved my life, I care about human lives more.
I have a little star lord that goes with me everywhere as a kind of mascot. After seeing this, it makes me appreciate him even more, seeing what went into making him from printing on his guns and belt and details on his jacket to the lot of embroidery on his mask
I am very grateful to the people that make those little toys, i dont think they realize how many smiles they have brought to the world. I hope they live happy lives.
Ahoyhoy there, Fellow RU-vidrino! I've always been wondering how soft playthings are made. Now I am informed and well learned, thanks a million for the informative RU-vid talkie.
Wow so much science goes into making a simple little plushie. Though I am hoping the conditions approve for these individuals. I am guessing they are doing all this hard work for pennies.
They are paid a minimum wage according to their region. A big reason why products made in China are so cheap is because of very cheap logistics and not because workers are paid low and treated inhumane like most people think.
This video is old, I had these Neopets McDonald's toys on my backpack in grade school. I recognized the cat one at the end, this has to be very early 2000's. I would think by now, that the toys are not hand sewn anymore. (Maybe these are newer Neopets toys, but I haven't seen McDonald's have Neopets in years.)
0:09 Oh my goodness is that a neopet? Jetsam, I believe. Wow that was nostalgic! 1:30 Yeah okay. It's a Flotsam (I was close) It looks great! Wow, I am impressed. Love the process. Thanks for sharing :)
It's nice to know that there are a lot of safety measures in place . I used to think I'd like to work in a place this this but the close proximity they have to work in would drive me to leave, imagine if one of your co workers had body oder. I couldn't handle that. I'd hope that goood personal hygiene would be a company policy .
From Wikipedia about Sweatshop! Sweatshop (or sweat factory) is a pejorative term for a workplace that has poor, socially unacceptable working conditions. The work may be difficult, dangerous, climatically challenged or underpaid. Workers in sweatshops may work long hours with low pay, regardless of laws mandating overtime pay or a minimum wage; child labor laws may also be violated. According to the Fair Labor Association, at least 18 countries are operating sweatshops, including Bangladesh, Costa Rica, El Salvador, China, the Dominican Republic, India, Vietnam, Honduras, Indonesia, Armenia, Brazil, Haiti, Taiwan, the Ivory Coast, Nicaragua, Mexico, the United States and its territories.
Oh boy, you have no idea how things work. As a plush artist, I’m almost offended actually. It is not any different to do it at home. And the patterns are not cut for you, let me tell you that. Also, not everyone can afford an embroidery machine. So I sit here for a whole day or maybe days or weeks, trying to first figure out a pattern, then trace it, cut it and prepare eyes or anything I have to satin stitch on. Then actually do that and sew it all together, getting frustrated at times and stuff the things by hand, hurting my wrist in the process. Then I have to close it shut and mostly add details with the ladder stitch, poking myself with the needle quite often, to be honest. Also, you end up with dry skin on your fingers and sometimes it bursts open and you need to either use a bunch of lotion, or you need band aids. It is fun to sew, don’t get me wrong, but it is a lot of work, so don’t you say we do any less of it!
Cutey Peridot I know I’m an eon late, but the struggles like this were also formerly mine as well, until I utilized the resources around me. For example, my library has a program where they can rent out sewing machines, and my local sewing shop is able to help me with embroidering my files for a few bucks. I don’t know if this is how it is everywhere, but if you look hard enough, you can save up for a sewing machine. I got my current one for $50 at an online auction, and no longer had to return every two weeks and wait 3 days for “cool down” or a spot in line. Still have to pay for embroidery though... and the way you put making patterns, I took 2 weeks to make a miniature scale from start to finish of a plush, so relatable. I have been meaning to post, but school is starting back up again, and the pressure is on /.w.\ anyways, plush art is hard, but I hope you were able to grow from the time of this comment! Edit: I still have a cursed umbreon in my closet when I tried to hand satin stitch, lol.
@@ThatMimiThing designing patterns is the most difficult, machine embroidery is also difficult because you have to make the embroidery file and decide what stitches to use. The physical sewing isn't hard at all but it's extremely time consuming.
Its incredible how much work for make that toys, and after a while, women of them end in the trash or Salvation Army. And the workers earn a minimum paid.
I have once made soft toy, first it is small pieces looks awful when sew but when it is filled it comes alive. Filling gives personality, do it look lazy or active.
@Strong Bad It's not so bad for some people. There are those who prefer to work in this type of field. You can't lose doing something that makes you happy and pays you a wage.
well well well, if u ever wanted to find a video on RU-vid that not only could put u to sleep but also has a great early 90s sound to it... well this is the video for u my friend!
