This softail had a few issues with fuel delivery, and I walked through how I isolate the problem and resolved the issue. I also took the time to replace some maintenance items and freshen up the 50k mile fuel system.
This was a huge help. My 06 FLSTNI id skipping and shutting down at idle and i figured i have to replace fuel pump parts since thats the consensus. great job showing in detail what goes on.
Thanks for replying back man! Ended up running it down. Was a injector hanging open, ended up pulling and replacing them and problem solved and no more low/lean code for the front cylinder
Hey B use a long flat blade to get the fuel pump assembly chinga over center , makes it easier to get out of the tank. You made that look too easy ………. good job 👍🏻
Cool disassembly very informative video, gotta say that all you needed was one little spark, maybe burn down the garage.. get all the gas out ..and work on the pump away from the tank next time..all the way out is not that hard my friend..
The plastic housing on the fuel pressure regulator are notorious for cracking and causing fuel to leak creating low pressure. Next time you do a rebuild like that I would also put on a new plastic housing for the regulator.
was told the screws holding the top plate down should not be reused as they crush a oring, also now that you have a extra quick connect fitting you can use it with some hose as a drain hose for fi tanks and let the pump drain it for you

Your vid's are great man. I bought a really nice 88' Softail Custom a few months ago- one owner, 10kmi. Man the bikes beautiful. It died on the way home. (Story of my life right! Lol) The ICM box was bad under the oil tank. I replaced it and it runs okay now, at least the spark is back! Man I'm having a bit of a popping going on when you roll into the throttle. Iv'e replaced the ignition switch, the coil, icm, plug wires, cam pickup plate.. tested the stator, voltage regulator, new battery.. cleaned all grounds and probed the complete wire harness from fromnt to back! Still has that dang poping. No intake leak. My MAIN Question is putting that new cam pickup plate in do i have to bring the front cylinder to TDC? I didn't think I had to. I made a mark where the old one was so I should be pretty damn close. Motor does have a S&S Super E on it (going to do some test riding and adjustments on it today). Those carbs are tough to find the sweet spot. I'm SO close to figuring it out. Any ideas? (I know its tough trying to give advise on the PC) I just thought I'd see what you think, maybe point me in a different direction.? Thanks for your vid's. You help a lot of DIY people out here that are tired of getting ripped by some of the HD dealerships! Hell I know more about classic EVO's than most dealerships do!!! So it sounds like it’s just a tune issue you’re having. S&S has a great super e carb tubing video that breaks it down perfectly. But if you’re doing a cam, it doesn’t matter if you mark anything at all, as long as you time the cams properly with the marks they have on them. You’ll have to roll the engine over as you install the pushrods. You’ll each individual side to be in the base circle of the cam (TDC) as you set them in and either adjust the pushrods or tighten down the rockers.

@@GilstrapGarage okay.. cool. Not messing with the actual cams. When I bought this bike a few months ago the cam pickup plate module was melted. I made a mark on the old one to try and get the new on placed as close as possible. Seems like its very close, I think I just have to do some test riding to adjust the cam pickup plate dialed in and the S&S adjustments! Thanks SO much for taking time outta your day to reply to me... Comment is six months ago so I'm figuring you chased it down. If it's an E.F.I. bike rather than carburetor the fuel pumps are notorious for cracking and leaking fuel back into the tank. If you get it low on gas you should be able to take the cap off and hear the fuel spraying inside the tank. If you hear it then it's leaking. The popping is a run lean condition and will have some codes in the bike. Not sure but I think they are something like p0122 and p0155. Not sure on the numbers but something similar. Did you fix yours?

Hey man great video! I have a 2008 roadking and I’m having a issue with it starting and running ok when it’s cold, but after it gets up to operating temperature it doesn’t want start back up and dies after a few seconds when it starts and misses as well, getting no codes on my powervision for anything. Once the bike cools off A bit it will start back up, I replaced the crank sensor and still the same. I actually just Bought that fuel tool Setup to check fuel pressure, would you any ideas on it would be much appreciated? Or you had any experience diagnosing a similar issue, the no code thing sucks
something like that, I'd lean towards checking electronic components that are exposed to heat. ignition coils, fuel injectors, etc. if you find/found the problem give me an update! I'd like to know
I just opened my tank and extracted the components, 2001 Ultra Classic, and it all looks like exactly like your components. I need to replace everything inside as it all looks terrible from corrosion. Where did you buy your components? I need to order everything inside the tank. I would like to replace the whole assembly.
I got a trick for you next time you take the outlet hose off the tank get about 18 inch long plastic tube, 1 inch inside diameter.slip the tube in the tank over the hose.. it will spin without bending while you turn the threaded end. 😉
I just got a 2004 Heritage. When I see this, I will probably go back to an Evo. I never thought, that the twincam tanks were hiding such a pile of shit inside! Being honest, I like riding Harleys! But in comparison to my 14 year old car Fiat panda with a comparable engine performance, it is more than a bad joke, what Harley Davidson offers for stellar prices! If it wasnt a passion, all Harleys are not more, than overpriced junk! Management should realize this sooner or later. At least a 20 grand bike should last for at least 200 k miles, without any technical problems!
