I'm liking this a lot more than the SSL UC1, seems like is designed to go right to the needed tools, such as shape and dry/wet compression with less fuzz. Also a better layout for EQing.
@@pete3816 Exactly. I've only had these to Softube controllers for a day and I've already wrapped my head around what it truly frees us up from having to do and get in the mindset of an "ANALOG CONSOLE"! Oh well, to each their own but this along with Fader is simply amazing.
@@pete3816 nah, you're just a condescending asshole.. Having a channel volume fader makes 100% sense to round off the package and is a reasonable feature request. There's much better stuff out there than console 1.. I'd rather have a dedicated controller for my DAW's mixer AND any native plugin I want to program into it... This is adding another mixer layer on top of the DAW mixer.
if this thing had actual numbers printed around automated knobs ( or a small screen anywhere) and one automated fader it would be such a GREAT product.
Think maybe the balance is off because it sounds a bit messy, maybe process the individual channels more in context than by themselves. Other than that nice vid demoing this hybrid piece.
Why in the world would any company build a remote that allows you to work without looking at your computer (which is a GREAT idea) and not put very basic frequency prints on the knobs of the remote...so basically if you wanna know what frequencies your are adjusting you have to....LOOK AT YOUR COMPUTER. same for compression and the rest of the features. was THIS close to buying this, thank God I watched this video.
Hello and thanks for this video. It helps. You mentioned that it isn't too heavy on your CPU, but what are the specs on your computer? Im sure you have quite a powerful tower. Im concerned how it would run on a laptop...?
thanks for this video Reverb! few questions: 1. can we use this with ANY plugin? like lets say kush audio, fab filter, Universal audio? 2. can you make a video showing how it can be used with other plugin brands?
Yes there is, but no you're not. I also have the original controller (made in Europe) and it works perfectly. You can tell visually by the channel buttons say 1-20 AND 21-40. The Mark II (made in China) is nearly identical to the eye, and even more so to the touch. Softube decided to have hardware manufacturers do the job, which allowed them to cut the price in HALF. I paid $1000 when it launched, which for a hands on SSL4k was insanely cheap. Then they launched the 9K, my favorite, and the Neve, and the API, and now the Summit, the Chandler, and the Weiss. But when they partnered with UA and allowed me to switch between back and forth between controlling my DAW, AND UA Console, there was no turning back.
Cholo Hermosa from what I believe it’s only a few plugins and UA and Softube won’t put any time into it. If it worked with Console on all the plugins I’d buy it in a flash.
softube recommends adding the plugin on every track even if your not using it on said track - that way the console can still associate itself with each track accurately.
I'm just saying it seems like a lot of money to play pretend. Sure it gives you control, but it isn't going to insert the plug in into your strip. In which case, you're already using your mouse. Idk, stuff like this just confuses me when it comes to how expensive it is to do something you can do with a $15 mouse with the same sound quality.
There was nothing mentioned about working with Universal Audio plugs for this. I wonder if that relationship kind of fell apart. It was a bit weird about the GUI looking different.
UA has a track record of making devices go obsolete (including their own), which is how they've tried to monopolize the market.. and that's probably why Softube dumped them. UA is simply a greedy company who proved they didn't care about their customers in the beginning. UAD-1 was a perfect example. They cut off all their customer support and the cards became totally useless. Very nasty.
There's so many great native plugins out these days and many controllers that are worlds better.. This actually looks like it would be torture for my medium/large hands.. I don't get the appeal of console 1 anymore.. If it processed the channel strips, say 32 of them, on a dedicated DSP, different story.. then it's a uad satellite competitor but with hardware control as well.. I dunno.. it just seems a nothing product to me. Don't shoot.
@@UTSONUT That's an excellent question... that's why I said if it had dsp it would be like UAD, *but*, also with hardware control. Last time I used my UAD there still wasn't hardware control, so I have no idea. I haven't even turned my apollo 8s on since I probably made that statement. 2 for sale if you're interested, mint, and a twin duo as well. :)
@@UTSONUT Ok maybe we are confusing each other. LOL. Are you saying there is actually a control surface now that can control UAD plugins? As far as I remember they had no controller support. Not the plugins and not the Apollo console. I have two octo satellites and one quad and I've only ever used the mouse to control them even on massive mixing sessions. I would LOVE a hardware controller for UAD.. if you know of any.....I really wish I could help you, I'm so sorry. But I don't know the answer.
@@teddym2808 check out the video here from sweetwater! the Softube console hardware can be used to control UA plugins!!!!!! but via their own software acting as middle man.... so yea i dont think you understood my question,..... its all good though! how well this works in your daw will vary... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-givZrCyJlSw.html&ab_channel=Sweetwater
All the comments on this are hilarious and ignorant!!!! The people are more interested in ridiculing the mix over what the video is really about!!! The best one is the guy saying "its a glorified mouse, I can do all this with a $15 mouse". No you cant. A $15 mouse does not have 20 select buttons. A mouse doesn't have a knob for each function of the channel strip. A mouse does not do what this does. If you tried to do what this can do with a mouse, you will be an hour behind in 5 minutes!!!!! You're gonna say that a mouse can do all this and actually mean it?!!!! You obviously haven't bothered to look into what this video is actually about or even watched it!!!!
Bell Q is not sharp enough. Way too wide.. which means, you cannot completely isolate certain frequencies. That's what I don't like about most parametric equalizers. They're simply not narrow enough to hone in on specific frequencies and let some of the audio through. Far too aggressive equalization for my tastes. HL/LP filters also wipe out a lot of frequency detail, which I don't really care for. Music shouldn't sound like it underwater. It should breathe.
I would say don't buy it. It's a mess to set up and you're forced to open Softube, iLok and Gobbler accounts before you can even get your software. That's 3 separate accounts you have to give personal information for. For me, they took so long to sort out my licence I just gave up on this.
