Just to make it clear since somebody asked , you have do this ONLY once , Studio One gonna always remember the settings for each plugins you mapped (once) , and the Hardware midi learning has to be done also only once !!
I bought it and everything is working perfectly! - something we need to find out is how to bind the meters (left and right) to Midi CC messages? do you know this?
Jeezo, just one more question, the last i promisse, how many plugins we can map to control with C1?I did map SSL channel strip and work just fine.Do i have to open a new map for other plugin, save with the nem setup and then choose from a list of maps when inserting the plugin?Thank so much my man!
nope , be more precise on the scenario , sometime its the plugin you want to control that is problematic , if it's doing it everytime no matter the plugin on those knbs , double check you mapping in control surfaces panel , and check knobs option (relative absolute ect transmit value is usually the issue , if you don't check this box you will have jump of values , this might be what you're experiencing) ...this type of behavior)
Bravo
Great video! Do you know if there's any of doing this in Logic Pro X? Midi Mapping works, but having a hard time getting it to control only the plugin being focused on. Also side note, where did you get those colored bands @ 1:33, looks awesome!
To be honest , Logic X i m not familiar with its way of handling control surfaces .... As for the colored bands lol it's just my daugthers rings stuff ... : this type of stuff .. www.amazon.fr/Nestling-Elastique-Bricolage-%C3%89lastique-Pendentifs/dp/B0BGHP8VR2/ref=asc_df_B0BGHP8VR2/?tag=googshopfr-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=648840754309&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12757009209006938213&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9056177&hvtargid=pla-1926834743894&psc=1
Amazing content! I just got a c1 fader and was wondering if I can use it as a generic controller. I did saw one of the comment asking the same question but it’s been a year since, do you know or if you know somebody succeeded doing so? Thank you!
Glad it helps , as for cubase , not yet possible last time i tried , it's not C1 but the way Cubase handles control surfaces , that said i promise , since i got Cubase 12 (not yet installed) , i will double check since they implemented a new way to handle controllers !!
Thanks for your reply! I tried it out on studio one, reaper and ableton, none of them seemed to work, and for some reason I can’t get logic open after installing their softube app. Quite disappointed really…
@@ZozillaThaGreat Great choice on using Cubase. The developers for Studio One Cut their teeth working for, and learning from Steinberg Cubase And Nuendo. Cubase Pro 12 IMHO, Is far superior to Studio One. I do Have the Studio One Pro, but Cubase is much more advanced IMHO. Steinberg invented the VST Platform Back In the late 80s and or early 90s and is still currently standard text today.
Still using studio one mainly , i do have cubase (started with pro 24 back then on atari lol) , but since time is crucial nowdays , i really need to be more fluid in it to fully switch ....some stuff still annoy me in cubase .... Audio clip overlapp mix (not crossfade) is one of them !
Amazing video! Liked and subscribed. Thank you so much. 2 quick questions. 1) Does this work in Reaper? I'm going to research Reaper's CC mapping now. 2) Would it be possible for me to use the Console 1 in MIDI mode, but ALSO use the Console 1 Fader in the normal mode with the Softube software on at the same time? That way, I could use the Fader for the Softube DAW integration (track switching, mute, solo, page up page down, etc), and then use the Console 1 for 3rd party plugin mapping. Does this work? Or will having the software on for the Fader interfere with the Console 1's standalone MIDI mode? Hope this question makes sense
It should work in reaper without issues . As for being able to use both , i don't think so since it's using the softube on screen app , if the app is opened , no midi mode alowed ,so it's one way or another , unless you 'll find a way to redfinine C1
@@ZozillaThaGreat Thank you so much! After your video, it opened up the possibilities for me, so I've been doing an extensive amount of research and have now hit a wall in trying to find the best way to "fly through the project" and select the appropriate track quickly via Console 1 buttons in very large projects. Given all that, 2 last questions if you could continue to be so kind!!! 1) Can you change MIDI channels with the Console 1? If there was some way to change to a new "layer" of commands, where all the buttons could be assigned differently on each midi channel/layer, I could make the 1-20 buttons select tracks 1-20, and then next MIDI channel they select 21-40, and on and on. Is this possible? Maybe the "mode" button? 2) I heard some users report that in MIDI mode with the Console 1, some buttons just flat out don't work, I think it was like "shift" and "track +/-" or something like that. The users have said "I guess these are strictly for the Softube software." Is this true? I don't need them to work the way shift normally works, etc (although that would be nice). I just need them to be buttons
Everything you're asking for is depending on your DAW ability to configure the Console 1 Button and midi options depends on your daw , you see me doing it in studio one 1 when i define the action and and feedback type to the controller ... All the macros and daw commands are possible in S1 when it's button , not knobs for exemple , so you will have to check your daw or write your won plugins to costumise it further if you know how to do it . For me the best way to have something dedicated to 3rd party plugins is to use C1 for that and go for a SSL UF8 or equivalent for track controls ....
@@ZozillaThaGreat Thank you so much for the in depth responses. I bought it and have successfully mapped everything I wanted to do and more. I am in love!!! Thank you for this video getting me started on trying out this new work flow. For any Reaper users wondering, I was able to map knobs to plugins and used soft takeover on the mapping to keep it from jumping settings. I mapped the 20 track selection buttons to be my personal banks using cycle commands that I set up customized myself. So I have it set where hitting track button selects track 1, track button 2 selects track 16, track button 3 selects track 31, and on and on getting near track 300. So now I can hit one of those 20 buttons to get close enough to the track I need to be near. Then I use the "track +/-" buttons mapped to "go to next track." Then I have a button mapped to "open track FX" and two more buttons mapped to "select next FX in track" or "select previous FX in track." I also in the plugin window's options turned off the plugin keyboard shortcuts so that Reaper would recognize my normal keyboard shortcuts outside the plugin window, even while the plugin window was focused. With all of that in place, I am able to select 1-20 for my track bank (land at let's say track 91 instantly), quickly hit "track +" a couple times to cycle to the correct track (let's say it was track 93 I needed to reach). Then hit my button to call up that track's FX, then hit a button to cycle through the FX in the chain, then I'm in. I can start turning knobs. When I'm done, I hit the fx window button again to toggle it closed, and I repeat the process to move on to the next track. So now when it comes to plugins, I am virtually DONE touching the mouse. Yay!!!!!! I also want to report that in Reaper with my setup anyway, holding down the shift/fine adjust button on Console 1 DOES work to fine adjust controls! So if you want to turn those knobs with greater precision, YOU CAN! This has been a lot of research and trial and error. But largely thanks to this video, I am finally here! Woo!!!!!
@@ZozillaThaGreat That Is an excellent suggestion as I already have SSL UF8 and the UC1 which I intend to keep. Your suggestion to use UF8 for track controls and console 1 in normal mode, I think this will give me the best of both worlds. I was considering selling the UF8 as the console One seems to fit My workflow better than using the UF8. I hope that this is possible. Do you know about using both controllers, like switching from one controller to the next?
Studio one is really remarkable because it stared from nothing ...... and now it is a major DAW !! By the way you don't have to unplugg , just use the "reconnect" option when your in midi config panel in studio one
I did the same in Cubase Pro 13 with Console 1 MK2. And it works fine!!! I I just killed the Softube Console 1 display app in the Monitor Activity (moniteur d'activité in French), then I unplugged Console 1 and plugged it again, and all the led are on, that means it's on MIDI mode and now I can use it again like MIDI remote controler and control any plug in
@@ZozillaThaGreat Thanks for the suggestion. I tried in the MIDI Control Remote set up and "reintialisation" (in french) but nothing seems to work, I have to unplug then replug.
Hi, are you still using your console 1? If you had to choose just one of the c1b channels, which one would you choose for Indie Rock and maybe some Pop. Thanks and greets
If i had to keep one channel it would be the XL 9000 , BUT for your style the stock one 4000 is exelllent and enougth and this is what i use most of the time for cpu hit (it's friendly) ....
Good evening Zozilla. I like your straight forward and honest explanations. Thanks a lot for your informative upload. I would like to ask you, if you could make a video using Pro Tools. I am primary comfortable with Pro Tools and it would be of great help for me and I think for many other Pro Tool friends out there. For know thank you again and wish you and the rest of RU-vid community a happy and healthy Christmas evening. In respect, Richard 🙏
Don't , for the controller (HW) alone it's worths , simply because any similar option is non existent or inferior .... foot print is spot on for desks and no sub menus or shift stuff , all 1:1 control fast ....
i own a faderport (1) , so far all good , i use it mainly for basic stuff but it does those like a champ ...one thing i love about it is the focus mode , my eyes went on the new ssl but the form factor is terrible with charp edges ... unbelievable ...but the metering option is superb .. talking about c1 , dont forget that you can use it for anything , i m using it for soft synth and it rocks ....
I recently purchased a console one and i'm trying to use this technique in studio one but for some reason no matter what i do i cannot use the console one as a midi device. Everytime i go to midi learn it just doesnt work. Any one else in the same boat? Maybe softube stopped the integration so you use their eco system. Any help appreciated
Dan did ya flallowed what i did , prior to being able to use it as a regular midi device , witch is basically what it is , you need to stop the "softube" app that launches at os start , once done , it will be seen as a regular midi device in your daw ...
I'm thinking of getting one just to control 3rd party plugins. You think it's worth it? Would I be able to assign tab plugin on the track from console 1 so I can easily switch which plugin I want to use on each track inside studio one 5?
I don't know if i get it right , but what i do and you can is that it can goes from plugins to plugins inserted via a shorcut that is assign in my console 1 to next / previous track for exemple , the command to assign is "jump to next window" or something like that ..... so for exemple you have La2 , Neve , and Reverb on one track if you select the track , LA2 pops up , you tweak you hit next track two time and you jump to reverb witch displays itself on the screen and you tweak , you can go previous and go to neve , same ... THIS Can be done , if it's not what you're talking about , hit me we more precisions ;)
Definitly , but if it s for controlling studio and not nessaraly using it with softube /uad stuff , if you have something like maschine it s sufficient ...will do if time allows avideo on how to make maschine a deep s1 controller ...
@@ZozillaThaGreat well ideally I wanna use it with softube and 3rd party. I bought one, it's coming today. Even if I just use softube and it speeds up workflow and keeps creativity running when I write, that's fine! I'm sure I saw someone say they ran it in plugin mapping mode and actually mapped the softube plugin, which would make the best of both worlds, is that possible?!
OH YEAH BABY! Thanks, updated some skills I did not know. I wish to be able to toggle between Midi Mode and "NMormal Mode", is that impossible? I own a fader as well and managed to have Channel in midi mode and the fader in mornalm mode (but I perhaps cannot load in EQ, Comps etc.. hmm)
We asked Softube for that ability to switch to midi mpode , but of course , zero interest finiancially , this will cost nothing to implement , but it's an ecosystem .... so ... you know ;) So simply kill the app , or relaunch it according to what you want ....
Exact , that's why we asked for the midi switch to be on the hardware .... i got a faderport for fader (one fader) and it's exellent , i might grab a Electra one controller and be done ;)
Genial ton tuto, merci beaucoup. J'hesitais a acheter un console 1 mais j'avais peur d'etre limite a leurs plugins native mais si je peut l'utiliser pour tous mes plug-ins c'est vraiment genial. Bonne journée à toi.
Question, this is a feature of Console 1 and the ability in Studio 1 to map its plugins correct? Protools will not allow mapping of the Channel plugins from 3rd party controllers so this will not work in Protools?
It's not linked to console 1 , bascically this can be done with any controller ( maschine MK3 is a beast at it when it comes to controlling a daw ) , as soon as you "free" console 1 from its softube mode, it becomes a regular copntroller with Midi CC informations , so in PT , if ya know how to handle controllers , you should be good ...

Hey thanks so much for posting this, its exactly the kind of thing I am trying to incorporate into my workflow. Super excited to use my analog obsession plugins via C1, in Reaper! I have been researching the console 1 for a few days now itching to pull the trigger and get it running like you have. But Id like to ask how are you feeling with it now a year later? Have you discovered any solution to the fader problem? As far as I can see, you would need to buy a different stand-alone mechanical fader board since the console fader isnt going to work in midi mode correct? Thanks again for re posting this, its taken forever to find anyone in the same boat as me go as in depth as this, super helpful! Cheers!
@@ZozillaThaGreat Just curious, are you using the Presonus Fader port 1 or 16 channels. For some reason, the SSL UF8 seems too awkward, and too much button pushing and scrolling the knobs, too much to learn how to use it. I am thinking about selling it, any suggestions on a separate controller with faders for Cubase to use all my 3rd party plugins, without going through all of the mapping processes? My Plan is the do all my pre-production using console 1 and a different controller for mixing in Cubase. Thank you much for presenting this topic as it is extremely helpful and appreciated.
I use in Faderport 1 With Console 1 , and during production , no console one .... but i tell you a secret hehe ....really thinking of builing a layout for console 1 to make it be usable for synths !!! during production!! As for your next question (you gonna ask ) : yep it's a superb combo (Faderport 1 + console 1)
Salut, Zo!
can you use two console ones with the same system simultaneously? the first consoleone for switching channels and controlling the console one software (regular intended use) and a second console one in midi mode /
So you have to program Console 1 every time you wanna use it on 3rd party plugs? And then when you wanna use it the regular way, you unplug it and replug it in, and it's good. But then you forget about these 5 hidden tracks that you need to use C1 for 3rd party plugins, so you'd have to reprogram it to do 3rd party plugs again? Or can you save a file, or something, and just load that every time you wanna use C1 for 3rd party after the unplug replug action?
You just have to programme this one time , if you look close at the video , in my controller list , you have CONSOLE 1 witch is what i already mapped ect .... i redone it with you guyz for the video !!! (C1) So once it's done , it's done , and each plugins remember its personnal mapping , if that makes sens for you ... The unplugg thing is a must but depends on systems , you can force studio one to refresh midi devices and in this case unplugg might be unneccessary , i gave the method that is working 100 % of the time no mateter the systems , but the goal is not to switch back and forth , it's for people like many that use mainly their plugins , or like me that mix first with C1 and then finish mix with 3rd party plugins . Thks for you questions , this will clarify what i thougth was clear . thks for watching
Thanks for this :) This is very very useful for me. Is there any chance we could also get the vu leds to work so we could see the input and output gain levels?? :)
That would be great but not at this time .... a plugin has to be written for that , for Cakewalk i think somebody has written some if i recall this back then
Wow, awesome... I wish there was a way to do something similar in Pro Tools. Ever heard of a work around to map plugin parameters in Pro Tools, audio tracks? Thanks.
Is it possible to send midi signal from plugin to Console 1 ? For example - If I open different SSL Channel Plugin all new settings from plugin will show on Console 1.
This is exactly what i show in this video , and why you use it as a control surface , the key is , i learn mode , you check "transmit values" option like i showed on the video . And this is why i love C1 also to controle Synths , no jump of values :!:!!
@@ZozillaThaGreat Sorry, I missed this moment in your tutorial. Now it works. I only must find solution why my mapping is lost everytime after I reebot my laptop. Am I missed it too ? :D
@@ZozillaThaGreat Thank You for your quick answers. Now console 1 works great with midi mapping. I'm still waiting for licence transfer, I bought it new but B-stock and previous user used activation code and someone still have it. I hope Softube will reset this code soon. Because of that I can't try "Core Mixing Suite". Do You use it ? I found on some websites that it is possible to control parameters in "Core mixing suite" but te second eq/comp/tape I need to use mouse to control it. Do you know that first compressor or eq I can control with Console 1 MK2 ?
To be honest , the more update they make the less i use what they propose , it's a total mess , it get far and far each time from the original goal " direct and fast " operation . So don't trip about that core thing. I personnaly rolled back to previous versions !! As for the licence tranfsert it's a simple ilok licence , the seller should have transfered it to you !!!
Can C1 control the Softube & UAD plugins (using the C1 plugin) AND 3rd party plugins (as a generic MIDI controller) AT THE SAME TIME? Or is it either one or the other?
It is one or another , but the workaround i do is that the second option , you will be able to control anything so i remapped uad and softube stuff there , even the C1 channel strip (using the plugin then as source for the controll) ... all you have to do first is to save each channel strip (C1 ones ) as preset in your daw wrapper of the C1 plugin to be able to call it ... Exemple : 1) you mapp all the C1 plugin parametters to console 1 HW (easy lol) 2) let's you own the ssl and the neve : a) the ssl is the deafualt one , you open the C1 plugin you save as (daw preset) SSL 4000 E b) you open console in original softube mode , you load the neve channels strip , save it in the c1 plugin in daw preset as Neve for exemple ...ect... 3) now your C1 plugin is mapped and you can load each consoles (or combinaison i made some for tubetech ect) don't know if it's clear lol Oh yeah ,, craziest thing is that you can create even a console with uad stuff in and save it .... ;)
Can't say homie , i don't own one , try asking at Gearspace or other forums , pretty sure people will give an help ... sorry for being unable to help .
@@ZozillaThaGreat I bought the StudioLive 32 and assumed I could control the fat channel from the board with the on screen GUI but nope not as easy as I thought. I will be getting a used console 1 just for this
Man you will get not only a controller but a dammn good chànel strip to start with , don t waist your time with presnonus built in fx ...you will love it and integration with s1 is killer that younmight skip my workaround and stick with the regular operation .
You're Weclome , notice (im gonna try to make a small update) that your do NOT HAVE to unplugg it to get it in midi mode, i discovered that just quiting the softube app AND going in device manager in studio one , selecting console 1 and click reconnect does the job !!
Is third party plugins midi mapping project specific? Will the mapping be available in new projects as well ? meaning that it has to be done only one time ? thank you.
Do you have to restart Studio One in order to control the Softube plugins again? Is there any way to switch from controlling softube plugins to MIDI mode during the same session?
@@ZozillaThaGreat oh, that's amazing. Maybe I'll just get a USB cable with a little on/off switch so I don't have to physically plug and unplug. But as a S1 user, this is incredible! Thank you so much for making this video.
Be sure to 1) not be in softube mode , it will launch itself after each boot , you could blok it from launching in start up if needed , but i didn't since i also use softube c1 stuff 2) be sure to have selected the right controller to control the plugin (up right corner onnt the plugin gui wrapper in studio one , console 1 should be choosen and in yellow meaning active .

@@rickblackers88 Ah , yeah i'm talking about the fact that if you unplug and replug too much times this might kill the usb port in C1 , so to avoid this you could use usb switcher (like hub but with switches , like to disconnect without unplugging the cable)
@@ZozillaThaGreat ok cool thanks. I'm searching for a great plugin controller. I'm not a big Softube fan. Do you think it's worth it as a standalone controller vs Midi fighter twister? In what mode are you using it the most?
dear people, a short question: anyone having problems entering the MIDI mode. I do the unplug-and-replug-thing but the mode keeps looking like still being controlled by the software: no coloured LED rings or such. The manual doesnt say anything about it either. weird thing...
You need to close the console display app first , no need to unplugg by the way just open midi devices options instudio one and choose reconnect , if the softube app is closed when doing so , it will switch to midi mode ...and you're good to go , plug in and unpluggin it will loose the usb connection with time ...
Will the Console 1 fader work in this way too? I was going to get them both! Also does the page track forward and backword work? I sampled a Audient 8024 console , and wanted to control the plugin with my C1 and C1 fader!
I can't say that much since i decided to skip the faders version .... i use faders very early in the production stage and having to put a plugin for that is a deal breaker , the thing now is to know as you asked how it can integrate as a mdidi controller .... in that case people rather go for an Avid artist second hand ....
Ahahah if only it was me selling lol , more seriously , important EDIT , you don'tg have to unplugg C1 to reset in midi mode , in studio one select it in midi config and select reconnect , it does it !!
You're welcome Partricio , and even better , you don't have to reset via unplugging but simply choose reconnect in you devices option in studio one ...
Nan j'ai un soucis avec le jump de values , en gros il récupère pas la value on the fly , pourtant j'ai mis les bonnes options , mais je t'avoue je maitrise pas Cubase ... mais des que je trouve une solution je vous fait une video direct ...
If you mean back to daw integration , it's like that by default , if you done what i did and then want to get back to daw inteartion , you simply re launch the "softube display" software , an unplugg re plug of the HW might be necessary to refresh daw communication for some daws ...
@@ZozillaThaGreat so basically, what is needed is the C1 switching between DAW mode and MIDI mode automatically when switching to a new channel, depending on whether that channel is using the C1 plugin.
in cubase i have on issue , thejump of values , no matter how i choose the pick value option in cc scnerios , it jumps , will dig in more if time allows ..
@@ZozillaThaGreat F### I was hoping it will be kind of similar but man Cubase is falling back compared to Studio One, especially 5.3. It looks awesome. I'm considering the switch you know. Thank you for this type content , is very valeibable.
