I have several SOG knives including the Flash & Flash II. This SOG Flash AT-XR is by far my favorite! Deep pocket clip, excellent blade shape, coating, D2 steel...it's freaking awesome.

Have you noticed any decline in the operation of the assisted technology? I've read a few reviews that says it is kinda slinky out of the box and declined in performance quickly.. had that been true for you? Cuz I am considering this knife a lot.

@@firstlast2514 With the original version of the SOG Aegis & Flash that was true. The assisted opening did lose some snappiness...though a little lube love restores it pretty well. These new Flash & Aegis AT-XR models haven't lost any snap speed for me, they've been in my regular carry rotation since released. Though I do try to keep them clean after heavy use...blow the workings out with compressed air too. Hope this helps!

2 years later, but none the less, i have the cyan blue variant and its still my edc along with my leatherman wave. Still going strong.

So one way you can one hand it is to pull the xr lock down then while holding it down push the back of the blade on your thigh. Your can also use your thumb only to disengage the lock and use the index finger over the spine to close it. I use this technique with framelocks and liner locks too. May take a few tries to get the hang of it but you'll get it. One thing I love about the xr lock is actuation on one side only is really easy to do. The lock won't bind like benchmade's axis lock

I have a gray one and I love it but my favorite among all my SOG knives is my Vision XR. You've got hands that are on the smaller side. The Vision XR would suit you very well. It's fully manual and there's no mistaking the fact that it's a tactical/self-defense knife. It's also an excellent fidget toy. Check it out.

I've been checking out the new SOGs and really dig their new XR and AT-XR line up.. It's been a toss up between the flash and the aegis. I've read some reviews that the assisted technology starts slowing down incredibly over a month or two. Is that something you've noticed? The terminus xr is on my list as well and that is not assisted but it's quite a bit smaller and I'm looking for bigger. Also, just subbed. Thanks for the review!

SOG has majorly improved over these past couple years,I bought the SOG Flash 2 a few years ago and I can’t stand it,1)the pocket clip gets loose too easily 2)the safety pissed me off 3)AUS8 leave a lot to be desired..the only thing I really don’t like about this newer model is the safety switch on the spine,though it is far better than the safety on the SOG FLASH 2.I just don’t think a safety is necessary on an assisted opening knife,most of my automatic knives don’t even have a safety and a I’ve never had one open in my pocket..if they feel like a safety is necessary,I think it should be done like the Spyderco Autonomy 2,it is there is you want it but it’s completely up to you if you want to use it or not..with all that being said,excellent review,keep up the great work

Pull back on the lock with your thumb, use your index finger to push the blade down and catch it with your thumb and press all the way down until it's closed.

For closing, I use the back of my leg. I push the back of the blade against the back of my leg and push it close. 🤙🏼

LittleFitDevil , here in South Africa , there is only 3 or 4 stores in the country that sell it and they were asking about Us $ 516 per knife which was too expensive . but one of my cousins was able to source himself and myself a sebenza dirt cheap so I could not say no , we picked up both knives for under $516 including shipment .

If sog would've nested the liners on these I would've bought the new flash,tac,and trident.. I love sog but exposed liners are a major turn off even if same color I don't know why but I don't like it and has saved me a great amount of money over the years..thanks

Does this knife have thr feature to switch sides with the clip. I am rt handed and am looking for a knife for my left back pocket in the event that my rt hand becomes disabled. I always wear black pants so it should not be noticeable. Thank you. 💝💝💝

I've never had a SOG but Ive had over 20 pocket knives in my life. Mostly for work but i always have a carry around blade on me as well. Out of all my knives I've ever owned, the one i have now is a Gerber which was a gift from my pops. This knife is incredible! So sturdy, strong and has endured hell without ever getting loose or compromised. Are Gerbers good knives or did i just get lucky? If Littlefitdevil or anyone in this community can share, I'd appreciate because im in the market for a carry around knife that i wont be using at work

After praising my Gerber knife to you like a fan boy, i bust it out today to shave the plastic coating off some gas line and the blade is all loose and wobbly for no good reason!!! I jinxed it!!! 😫. Oh well, gives me an excuse to do some more knife shopping! But now i ordered another gerber for non-work use and im half regretting it! Im wondering if something not foldable would be better for work because this always seems to happen🤔

Yes can close it with one hand use the back of the blade against your leg and it will close one hand

@@micahh108 I'm just more impressed with the Japanese quality. I've got a spiderco police i got back in 94. Never sharpened it. It still cuts through paper although not as quickly as it used to. My mcusta is a scalpel practically.
