I bought this tool two years ago now. I’m thoroughly surprised of how well it’s held up. It’s not perfect but I hate that I love it. The tool set is substantial for its size and with a little modification like adding a flathead to the bottle opener sharpening the can opener and turning the tip of the file in to a chisel. This little guy has as much use as my wave+ a little spit and polish by SOG would make this tool a true GEM. Awesome review!
I saw this at Costco while shopping w/family last night. It was only $20 bucks including a mini pocket knife/tooth pick, which I thought was a good deal & almost bought it, but my better 1/2 talked me out of it, however after watching your review on YT this morning .... guess where im on my way to!?😃
I brought this about a year ago, based on your review, & agree with everything you say. I absolutely love it & it has replaced my Charge+ as my new EDC, mainly because its small & light. Dime & Squirt are too small to be much use, & I cant be bothered carrying a full size MT anymore. This is halfway between a Keychain & a Full size Multitool & is the perfect size for an EDC . Its basically a 2/3 scaled down version of the SOG Power Access Deluxe. It's not perfect, but its pretty damn close, & there is nothing else that comes even close to this many tools in such a small & light MultiTool. Thanks again for the excellent review.
Good review man. Since you asked for feedback I would suggest mentioning the price of this tool msrp or currently this price.... Many people who click on video are window shopping.
Prices fluctuate and people are watching these multitool reviews from all over the world, I'm in the UK. Of course I always check out the best prices over here for multitools and knives I see reviewed on yt, or more often than not I see a multitool on sale, then look at the yt reviews to see if it's any good.
Ive used this in the field and have been very pleased with its performance. Wire cutters actually cut very well, the needle nose work very well and the plier portion does its job. the knife is razor sharp. Love the part where you can use different bits which I usually carry in my pocket. Very convenient even though you have to keep a grip on the tool while using, the magnet helps keep it in there a little. The phillips works well and the flathead is kinda small but for me very useful.scissors work surprisingly well. Its compact size is nice and its ability to be opened with one hand to use the pliers is pretty damn awesome. As far as it not be being perfectly built does take away from its usefulness.
I own a Leatherman Super Tool 300 and a Leatherman Wingman but they weigh too much for EDC. So I just ordered a SOG POWERPINT and am looking forward to it for EDC, especially with its small size and light weight, 1/4” hex bit drive, etc. I like your video review.
Good review. You point out the good and less than good features. I changed the cap lifter and file on the SOG Micro Pint to become 4mm and 7mm flathead screwdrivers resp. It is my favourite tool for everyday use, and it gets a lot of use! Every multitool has one fault or another. The much-vaunted Leatherman Charge TTI has plier handles, for example, that snap shut on your palm, causing painful blood blisters. Its mini scissors could be twice as big. Otherwise, a great tool set, but very heavy. You get the picture. I find that LM MPint is versatile and useful for practically all my little tasks that pop up during an ordinary day.
great review! best size tool, very concealable. i live in Romania, no blade allowed to be carried in public places. i owned SwissTool with ratchet, awesome pliers, could cut 2mm multistrand hardwires. also awesome scissors. didnt like the forward motion can opener and the woodsaw. i need woodsaw pretty often to cut rose branches. all multitools come with woodsaw for drywood, wet wood is like a putty so the saw have no teeth anymore. that is why i switched again to Surge, black and silver. i added 3 awesome thank saws, the ratchetdriver and bits. yet in the summer the 550 grams pack its hard to conceal if i go shopping. not a problem if i ride bicycle or go to work. I just ordered the PowerPint for city and home edc. i also own(ed) SquirtPS4, skeletool cx, dime, some big SAK. PowerPint seems to be alot suited for my needs then any of those.
I have one and I love it. I pocket carry edc it and it comes in handy like hell. I can’t ever go back to a normal pocket knife after carrying this thing. Don’t get one! I like the fact that you don’t see many of them. 😆
Hey great first review. You’ve got me wanting to get one now. Is that a lanyard hole opposite the clip? Also I heard on another review something about in the hinge there is a way to measure angles. I’m sure it’s an awkward method of doing that with such a tiny device but it’s built into it. Sorry if you mentioned those points and I missed. Appreciate your time and thank for doing this.
Thank for the comment and compliments. Yes it has a lanyard hold around one of the screw pivots. It’s pretty small though so you would probably want to get a tiny key ring and then put the lanyard on that. I will be posting a follow up video pretty soon on my thoughts on the tool.
JadeGeminiM390 Hey... I bought one, It’s black Powerpint. I think that’s fairly new to the lineup. It is quite small. Barely over 3” closed. Fits in my jeans watch pocket perfectly though. As you said tool set is not wasteful as they are all solid users. They are tiny though and finely sharpened. Philip’s head is more of a small head use though. Agree with you on the lanyard and adding a split ring. I have never owned a SOG and was pleased with the way pliers open. Compound gearing makes it so smooth. Thanks again and your review helped.
Nice balanced review, what I liked is that you put it next to a standard 91mm SAK to put it into perspective, I can immediately relate to that! So I reckon it's the smallest tool with what you could call full size pliers on it, the design is pretty good as the lack of inner tools means the plier head can take up most of the handle length. The only other tool like that was the old Leatherman mini tool which had very few other tools, as they were squeezed on the inside. For it's pricepoint which is about the same as a Gerber Truss or a couple of pounds more than the Suspension I would say this is definitely much better, if you are not looking to spend twice as much on a Leatherman or Swisstool for the better build quality and inclusion of a saw. However you might be better off spending a couple of dollars extra and getting a Wingman.
Good review! I haven't heard about this little guy at all. How much use have you had on this? I find that cheaper multi-tools can seem fine, then the flaws show up when you actually put them to work.
Outstanding for a first EDC review! Great observations and you are pretty fair and as objective as these things can be. Love the video quality! I get so tired of seeing EDC video where they are trying to show something up close and the focus is all over the place ;-). I am curious about this tool. I have the original SOG Powerlock, which is built like a tank! It is a bit chunky for EDC though.
Good review~ i hope sog will modify wire cutter into replaceable wire cutter. sog gear mechanism builds up the power of wire cutter but that is not a replaceable one, so it can be vulnerable to damage.
I bought mine before I watched this review. My experience with this tool is contrary to yours. Lol. Maybe you got a bad one? Mine has none of the issues you experienced. Everything is tight. Nothing rubs or touches. All the tools work. Pliers are strong and it’s light and compact. My only gripe is the clip. The way it’s oriented allows for the tool to open up while you walk. Other than that it’s exactly what I wanted/needed.
I have to wonder why they did not integrate a flathead into the end of the cap lifter or can opener like they do other sog tools. It doesn't make sense to me a missed opportunity for more functionality that they already do on other models like poweraccess.
I agree. That is a feature that time and time again I find myself needing. The minor saving Grace is that the seatbelt cutter has a sort of flattened in and I have turned it sideways and used it as a flat head screwdriver to takeoff panels for light switches and stuff like that. Although it is awkward to use.
@@JadeGeminiM390 well I ended up taking a Dremel to mine and grinded a flathead into it and it works decent enough. So it can be rectified with a little.
The Victorinox Fieldmaster is my EDC, too! I got it for the scissors/saw combo. I *almost* got the Farmer in Alox instead, but ultimately chose the Fieldmaster because it was cheaper, and I felt like the extra tools would come in handy. I’ve been checking out the PowerPint for its compact design, but it also seems kind of redundant in its tool set. (I already carry two other knives besides my Vic, so a multi tool with redundant functions would be too excessive for even my tastes.) I’m on the fence about this one because it has mixed reviews, mostly bad, but I’m glad it works for you.
I just got the " Gerber - Crucial " small EDC multitool and it wasn't until after I got the the Crucial that I came across the PowerPint... Is it possible to open and close the knife on the PowerPint with one hand?
@@JadeGeminiM390 Would it be impossible for you to upload a video of you opening and closing it with one hand? Even an unlisted video if you can share the link here so I can see it. That would be a massive help! Thanks man
I have a leatherman wave+ and it's nice, will probably last a lifetime if I take care of it but damn is it heavy and I wish it took universal bits, this thing is awesome, this thing with a compact case of bits would probably be perfect for my everyday needs
Good video and well reviewed...I appreciate the detailed explanations. Regarding “fixing” the nits you picked...if you own a Dremel or a very small file it appears that you could enlarge that recess w/o disassembling the tool to make that implement sit flush. Similarly, the scissors simply need to be “krinked” (real word) to clear the power block vs removing any material to make clearance. This adjustment by rights should have been done at the factory. Krinking is how they fine tune blade centering and it’s part of the “hafters” job at the factory. These are manufactured, errr offshore so some of that fine craftsmanship goes away in that case, but by the same token I had to krink (adjust) the scissors on my made in USA LM Juice. Keep up the good work on the videos...I may snag one of these tools myownself!
You’re definitely right. These are quality control issues and I’m sure that these issues are not found in every single product they make. As this is a review, I feel it is my job to point these out so the viewers can determine if that matters or not. 🙂
@@JadeGeminiM390 ok.. Thanks. I've been on the fence about this tool..there are other affordable options for similar size, but the ability to use hex bit is a big plus for me...
To use it as a ¼-inch bit driver, you squeeze the handles tightly to apply torque, then relax your grip, leaving the bit in the screw head, and turn the handles back, grip again and apply torque. This works like a ratchet effect.
I would advise against this one. I have owned two of them and on both of them the hinges broke. Unfortunately for me, SOG would not honor their warranty and I threw both of them in the trash. Leatherman for me from this point forward
@@JadeGeminiM390 agreed. I really liked this tool because it was ideal pocket size and still large enough to be useful. It is the pivots (on the pliers that break). I had them for a few months and both broke with very light usage. SOG told me this was normal wear and tear and offered me 20% on a new one.
Comparing this to the Swiss army knife is a bit disingenous, the swiss knife is just that, a knife with some meh tools added, and no pliers. It's a pocket knife vs a pocket tool. For the same or slightly less space used, even, you get more tools, better tools, a bit driver and pliers. Insofar as bang for the buck goes, this beats the knife in basically all ways.
I think that’s the point! The SAK is better for edc. I could carry a SAK and really have all the thing I need for day to day, while usually a leather style multi tool has to many extra bits that are not needed and usually too big to carry. This really hits a sweet spot having no real extra tools that seem useless. I still like a SAK more then the Powerpint because One Victorinox is my favorite knife company and 2nd I use the knife more than I ever would pliers. I’m sorry you didn’t like the review. By the way a lot of people do consider Victorinox a multitool. Hi considered a knife with tools on it.
I think it was good that he physically showed it next to a SAK, to show how compact it really is. You won't find another multitool this size with a full size plier head.
He spends 2 minutes talking about wanting to make the video he's making and telling you to like & subscribe, etc... Then 2 minutes talking about other random shit that he likes. at about @4:20 he actually starts talking about the tool.
