A buddy of mine with Navy Special Warfare gave me a regual Seal Pup with the paritally serrated blade as a birthday gift one year. He loved that little knife and carried one himself for a while. He also gave me one of the MK III knives they are issued in BUDs, which he said they replaced as soon as they could.

Good review! Just ordered one. Most of the review's I've been seeing have this knife as being pretty tough and dependable. It's on sale at SMKW's so why not... Good knife, good deal, can't pass that up AND, good video too... Sold!!!

I work on a joint expeditionary base where some of the teams are based out of in VA. Im just a regular sailor but i have met some of the spec boat guys and my best friend works in their armory. She told me that they still get issued these and every navy exchange ive been to in conus and over seas sells these.

The test that won the Navy seals contract wasn't this knife. It was the full sized SOG Seal 2000 that was bigger and thicker. Wayy more robust. This little version didn't pass nor put through any official tests as far as I know. If it did, SOG would have bragged about it. I hear people all the time saying how the Sog Seal knives (any of them- lol!) passed the gruesome test but in reality only one version did and that was the US-made Seal 2000 which has long been discontinued.

What's the purpose for the bumpy spine?

The Navy SEALS currently issue the Ontario MK III Navy knife. Its basically an M9 Bayonet profile type blade without the wire cutter hole and improved grips. But the SEALS being the 1st pick on weapons, I'm sure they carry whatever they want as long as it meets a minimum standard. I'm certain there are still quite a few SOG SEAL Team Elites and even some Ka-Bars floating around the armory and being picked up by SEALs.

I always thought this knife was more show than go.
