Thank you for your honesty! I did level 1 and 3 at different schools and placed into level 5 at SNU. It is tough and honestly pretty disappointing as my goal is improving Korean communication and the program is simply not set up for that. Interesting to see that even Sogang suffers from some of the same problems. I wish other non traditional programs could sponsor the D4.

Go to restaurants where the shop owner is old, like grandma or grandpa old. They will talk with you all day. Try to talk with native speakers outside of class.

Hi, Leila! Thank you for your video! I came here looking for advice on repeating the levels in Sogang, so it was really useful. I'm currently in KLEC level 3 and this is my first level here. It's been really hard to keep up with the class but now I see a lot of progress :) however, it's impossible not to compare myself with my classmates that started studying here from level 1 or 2. One of my teachers suggested that I should do level 3 again, since it contains the most important grammar points to advance to the higher levels, but since I can only study here for 2 semesters (2 levels) I still dont know of its worth it, or if I should go to level 4 and learn new things even though I know I will struggle 😭

Hmm… Levels 1 & 2 are usually easy; Level 3 is when things start getting more demanding. So, feeling a sense of struggle at that level is quite normal. You mentioned that things are improving, so you are on the right path. Repeating the level or moving to the next depends on many factors. Ask yourself these questions. 1. Have I studied enough to pass the exam and the oral test at the end of the trimester? Because at the end of the day, the results will dictate your fate. If you have studied enough to pass, there is no reason why you should repeat the level. If you fail both tests, then that’s your sign to redo it again 😊 2. What is more important to you: Focusing on learning as much as you can and pushing forward, or staying safe and consolidating your basics? 3. For your 2nd trimester, do you want to be at level 4, study hard, be diligent, and do your best to succeed (meaning at least 4 hours of daily self-study)? Or do you want to take it easy and chill your last 3 months in Korea (you’ll be repeating level 3, so the intensity and demand will be less)? Are you here to improve your Korean, or are you in Korea to have a good time and use Sogang as an excuse to make it happen? Once you contemplate those questions, you will find the right answer for you. Something I learned the hard way but would like you to remember is that comparison is the thief of joy. Some people will be more predisposed to be better at Korean than others (because of early exposure or similar languages spoken, having a boyfriend/girlfriend, etc.). Only compare yourself to the old version of yourself. Have you progressed compared to three months ago? If so, then you are on the right track. Learning a language is supposed to be fun. Let’s not let frustration take the joy away. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your videos-some of the most helpful videos I have seen online about this topic. Super inspiring for me as well because we have very similar profiles; I'm 28, working full time in the tech industry (native French speaker, but studied, lived, and worked abroad in Australia and the States for +5 years). I have been saving money for the past few years, and I am about to leave my job to study in Korea, and hopefully find a job after I test out the grounds. How crazy!! :D I'm also trying to get placed in level 2 after a few years of self-study and a true passion for this language; I was wondering where to get the vocabulary books you mentioned in your video. I wondered if there were specific vocab books, worried about getting the actual class book without explanation, etc.

You must be so excited and anxious. I remember that stage of my life; it feels like it happened forever ago. I don’t have a specific link for the vocab books. You’ll have to research online or buy the books if you can-no need to focus on other vocab books. Focus on the one Sogang uses. You will have to remember 50+ words every chapter, so… For self-study, I still maintain that Sogang books aren’t the best. You can check out www.howtostudykorean.com. I love his work. And it is free!

Is the grammar and writing part of the program good? Because when I see info about Sogang, usually people say that it's strongly focused on speaking and students may do some mistakes in conversation which, for example, students studying at the grammar/writing oriented program wouldn't do (though at that expense they lack confidence in actuality speaking Korean)
@Missklei
@Missklei 2 года назад
The grammar and writing was good. If you intend to study Korean so you can go to University, then this program won't necessarily be a good fit. They have another one for people in that situation. Or you can try Seoul National University but the workload is intense

@@Missklei Oh I see, thank you for answering! And do you you know anyone who studied Yonsei program, by any chance? If so, were they content with it or was it bad?

@@Missklei I’m at SNU KLEC level 5 now and yes, the workload is insane. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who is looking to improve their Korean, though it is good for those trying to pass TOPIK.

Can we chose the levels that we want to start? bcs right now i am at level 5 i study korean at the KCC but i don't wanna start from level 1 if i go and also on their website they have two programs: korean immersion program and internationale summer program. do you have any idea which is good?

Hi, I don't know if you've answered this in any of your videos about Sogang but the tuition is about $1.300 USD a semester right? Also, I've been following you since your beginning I aspire to be just as you are truly! :))

Hi. I'm glad my path is inspiring to you 🥰 When looking for info, it's best to go straight to the source for accurate and up to date info. You should visit the Sogang KLEC website. Last time I attended it was 1,790,000KRW

Do you happen to know if the evening course level 3 is similar to the level 3 course you took?
@Missklei

It can't be similar. The regular session is about 200 hours, and the evening session is about 60 hours total

Hi! Do you recommend buying the physical books or online version for Sogang student book? Since it is not a work book that we need to write on
@Missklei
@Missklei 2 года назад
You can write in the workbook. I would recommend buying the physical books especially if you have to be in class. It's just more convenient

Hi! I wanted to ask if you sign up for the course it’s 100% guaranteed that you will get to attend it? Since it’s pretty affordable not like other korean courses in Korea I was thinking if they choose the students or everyone who signed get into?
@Missklei
@Missklei 9 месяцев назад
There is no "selection" process. As long as you provide all the documents required on time and pay your tuition, you're in. It's first come, first serve, so the sooner you apply, the better.
