I really enjoy the BA videos, and looked forward to new ones, but it doesn’t seem right to watch them now. At least until the management confirms that Sohla will be compensated for her appearances.I don’t want my views to add more $ to CondeNast’s pockets
@rainbowtron300 rappaport is terrible but he was allowed to be as problematic as he was because Duckor is horrible and set the standard for racism and discrimination as well as sexual harassment. Duckor should also be fired otherwise BA can’t move forward
I can't even!! And I wanna boost the numbers of the POC videos but I know they weren't paid, so that would be moot. I need to erase it from my recommendeds
HERE FOR SOHLA SINCE SHE SPOKE UP ABOUT THE ABHORRENT MANAGEMENT ISSUES WITHIN CONDE NAST! love you sohla! love your recipes and your attitude toward cooking. thank you for teaching me to cook!
She is def a dope vibe n u can tell it’s all for the passion of cooking, 🥘 💗 she is extremely passionate about cooking and absolutely looves being a chef 👩🏾🍳 and landing a job at BA is definitely , by most people’s standards, a great place at any point in your career to have as far as we can see (obviously the ones who are actually involved would know, and know the real contract could have the real tea 🍵 lol no pun intended 😆 😂 lol). Would be hesitant to possibly give that up and put it on the line bc that’s the real reason people like Sohla don’t speak up when injustices, no matter how big or small is happening, in anyone’s place of work. The risk of being fired or if not ostracized and probably more by the higher ups . And that’s just the reality of the situation n I hope y’all read all this n she does n knows we support her and realize and support what she did 🤟🏾bc imagine if u were in that situation u might have not done the same idk if I would n I’m just being honest . 💕 💗 go getter Soh 💗 I support u and love you and I know so many others do also❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ✊🏽💋
@@laurenbi a quick Google search will give you all the answers you need. Sohla and other POC team members have been mistreated at BA. They are exposing and working against the systemic racism within Conte.
This is two years ago and Sohla was already an assistant editor at serious eats. She joined BA with both her 15 years chef/restauranteur experience and direct experience in a food publication/videos. And they gave her the same title and paid her $50k a year because they can. Atrocious behavior.
@@howva she really does look not only happier but more comfortable. Maybe she was respected and treated better? I heard that it wasn't only her that wasn't paid for video. The sad thing is that its common in the creative industry ( saying this because yes it food but its also staring in videos) a lot of BIPOC have to work unpaid or paid half.
Damn seeing how much things cost no wonder she is so upset about her salary. I'm honestly shocked about how little BA paid her especially for living in NY
@@PunofHarts are you serious? That's such a giant amount of money. I can't imagine that being rentable. They can't make that much money off of one episode, can they?
Yup, she deleted the original tweet but you can see it quoted here. www.reddit.com/r/seriouseats/comments/9q7lck/where_did_sohla_go_shes_no_longer_listed_as_an/
I love Sohla's commitment and fearlessness to trying wild and new things. She could easily pick from her bank of guaranteed recipies but she puts herself out there unafraid of the outcome but also fully confident in her skills.
A show that has summoned the iconic, heart warming Sohla for her creativity and expertise as a chef, is a show I can can get behind. Tokenism is a joke and Sohla is a queen
If she jumped on that now, it would take off incredibly well. However, she is poised to finally get the recognition she deserves at BA should she stick around. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Honestly, they've probably made her sign a non-compete agreement. But I agree that that would be fantastic....hopefuly she'll get the big $$ that she is owed from BA and then she can take her cash and skedaddle.
"Have you ever done this before?" Sohla: "No. What's the fun in doing something that you already know is gonna work?" Sohla: *nails it anyway* classic Sohla
@@ctwest3601 forget Serious Eats- just go independent like Binging with Babish. BA is shooting itself in the foot- one of the top comments on EVERY single It's Alive video is some variation of "someone give the editor a raise" & on every non-It's Alive video with Brad it's "Love Brad, but I miss the usual editing."
Farmers markets tend to be a little pricier, because the farmers need to pay themselves so they don't operate at a loss and make it worth their time to drive into the city. But, yeah, that's pricey.
@Alexandra McLean that also shows how short-sighted they imagined their viewers and readers to be. stagnant work culture with an unbending, privileged upper management will do that to ya
Apparently, she wasn't treated much better at Serious Eats. She tweeted: 'One day women of color won’t have to choose between tolerating discrimination or quitting their jobs. But not today.' after leaving SE.
Sohla is so inventive with her cooking. To be honest there are a lot of these smaller cooking channels that employed some of our favorite chefs that we didn't know about.
"Why do I make things harder for myself?" Because you're freaking brilliant!!! Sohla cooking improv has taught me so much. She truly has taught me not to be scared in the kitchen. 💞
Stella: She's gonna make me dinner so I better buy things I like! Sohla: haha i sp ent half the money on berryes let's buy something salty to annoi her
I love these two ladies! This was such a fun video. I didn't learn a new recipe or technique, but I did have a good time. Great chemistry between Stella and Sohla. More of these babes!
SOHLAAAAAAAAAAA AWWWW Im grateful my youtube recommended this even if its old, I wish sohla the best i hope things are better and u get the amazing series u deserve TT____TT
This was delightful. I really loved their willingness to just do different stuff. I seriously think doing a Farmers Market Swap would be a great show. Sohla is so imaginative. Everyone always compliments her BA Team Lunch ( another possible idea). Not sure when this was made. Please let Sohla show us some of her mad skills. Thanks 💐
I’d actually love to see this series continue, but bring in Kenji and Daniel as well! I’d love to see those two go up iron chef style against each other. Also Stella and Sohla are national treasures.
Sohla is just so incredibly knowledgeable and yet still chooses to take risks and try new, weird things. I love how her ego doesn't ride on if the result is perfect or not, but just that she tried it, she'll learn from it, and her next experiment will be better informed. She's just a damn delight. I hope she reads all these comments pumping her up, I feel like she needs it after all these years. Also, Stella, you are a gem and your cake looked gorgeous! I can't believe you just whipped up raspberry ripple ice cream like it was NBD, that is so stinkin' awesome!
@@sweetrojimiie955 They must've heard your concern, because BA has been pumping out tons of Sohla content with her appearing multiple times as a guest on others' videos :)
I like the idea but two things I think it needs: 1. Talk a little more about what you are doing with the cooking, not just what you are making 2. Talk a little more about the food when you're eating it, particularly as you're using more obscure ingredients. What's it actually taste like, did that root work in the cake? I don't mind if this makes the video a little longer but while it's nice to see you having fun I still want to actually know more about the food, that's why I come to Serious Eats. Also damn, that is an expensive market...
