I've seen those guys years ago in a small metal club in Switzerland and it remains to this date one of the best mixed metal concerts I've seen. Seeing this video is a shame.
+DFKNG Sounds like the audio recorder might be just routed directly out of the mixer through the audio out, if so then we are hearing the raw mix for the live concert which sounds different than mixing for closed listening, you can hear him adjusting as the concert goes on and gets it pretty much dialed in by the 7 min mark. Probably didn't have a good soundcheck before hand to get it dialed in.
They make awesome records. But in my opinion, this is what happens when you force too much things in the studio. The last album is amazing, but I think they haven't discussed much how will they actually manage to perform the songs live. Overall it's a good performance, regardless of poor mix. Bjorn's vocals improved a lot, and Dirk is tearing the shit out of those drums, as usual. Would see them live anytime.
Yeah. It's one of Soilwork's problems. It one of my favourite metalbands of alltime, but the music is sometimes so complex with notes squeezed in etc. that live, it's very hard to make it sound good, EVEN with the right execution, it's hard to mix for the soundman. At the same time, I agree, the mix wasn't that good though and I've heard their guitarplayers be less sloppy than here. I hardly heard any bass guitar and it all just sounded tiny in general. They could also better have triggered the bassdrums. Dirk Verbeuren is an amazing drummer, but he's still a human. Like most human drummers, he's got a problem creating enough steadyness and volume on the bassdrum at 215BPM+. When you need to hit your bassdrum 15 or 16 times per second, it's just hard to kick really hard to cut through the livemix, no matter how good your technique is. That's why most drummers that play faster than that trigger their bassdrums. This is one of the strengths of bands that keep their music very simple, like Rammstein or Volbeat. There's hardly any superfast riffs, there's not that many drumnotes, not that many layers, often slow rhythms and a lot of breathing room. This makes it sooo much easier to mix live and gives room to make things sound fatter and bigger, without making the mix blurry. Everything comes at a price :)
Saw these guys last March and they were great and performed on the level of their studio recordings, the vocal parts seems phoned in on some songs but all the instrumental stuff was tight. This seems like a bad case of shitty to no sound check and bad mixing like MIKAEL DAS LEWD ENGEL had mentioned.
+Richard Jones normally they don´t. saw them again this november. the sound in wacken was just horrible. i´ve been there. nevertheless enough booze made it awesome =D
r43xXoR, actually I made that comment in the summer and saw them later in the fall. They totally nailed the performance. I'm not sure why this show was so rough.
+Richard Jones I am pretty sure that day was hot as hell, you can tell by how much they are sweating. Being performing for an hour with a heat like that must not be easy :p
ithink its more of the shitty sound in festivals like wacken, open air, so many bands (differents sounds, eq, and stuff) and the mixing seems to struggle so much cause that, its nearly impossible find a great sound performance in wacken or similars to any band
I've seen them live about half a dozen times. Bjorn almost always struggles with his growls or his cleans. I like their albums but they really aren't a good live band.
Dirk just radiates this professionality and humility playing his parts. He really puts his playing first, and doesn't get carried away showing off or ranting at the audience. I would so love watching a gig from a dirk-cam point of view.
Well in my opinion the living infinite is their masterpiece by far. glad this set list is mostly from that album. sucks that the sound quality is not that great. this band still kicks ass none the less!

I saw them about 2 months ago and they were literally perfect. The sound was probably messed up. In my experience playing shows sometimes you can't hear yourself on stage and its pretty hard to not play like shit when that happens
Haha, you're right. Western crouds usually suck at clapping in time (always 15-20% too fast). This was an exception for sure. Maybe we always need to make them clap just REALLY slow like here.
what the fuck....I saw them 3 days ago....and their bassist had huge full grown beard....he doesn´t have any in this video....how the hell he managed to grow it so fast??
what let them down here is the fact that not one of the sound team thought hey lets turn bjorns mic up so people can hear him. Its not that he cant peform live i saw them November 2013 and he sounded perfect. Its with a shitty mic or someone fell asleep on the job
actually i checked in setlistfm and it says they did play Stabbing, so who knows (setlist.fm/setlist/soilwork/2013/wacken-open-air-wacken-germany-1bc6e9c4.html)
It's mostly down to the mix, but this wasn't one of their better performances for sure. They were incredible when I seen them last, although that was in a small, indoors venue, which makes a world of difference.
I am sorry, but to comment that these guy were not good ist just to laugh... yes, we have to respect opnions, but I would really also respect their work... they are amazing
I would if I could, had several comments about it being the wrong track since I posted it. Thing is, I was searching the lyrics for The Living Infinite's tracks on Google, so it'd make sense for the time and title to be wrong, not just the title.
So it is. Was only doing lyric searches, which would mean there's 2 songs in there as opposed to one. Wasn't a great performance, so I skipped sections occasionally.
This is not at all indicative of how they sound live. It's obvious the recording here is botched; You can't even hear the backup vocal mics (which are heavily used by both David Andersson and Flink for backup growls). Saw them 2 weeks ago at MetalDays and Björn was spot on with the vocals.
Soilwork is really fucking amazing even live, cmon man... this songs are fucking dificult, to record play live and to think about doing it. Congrats for all of them. Lets pray for Dirk not going away forever (or finding someone good at this level)
wish they had a longer set. I love the last few releases and they're great tunes, but there was some serious lacking for other tunes from steelbath, figure number 5, etc.
What the fuck are these sound techs on? Nonetheless, excellent performance. No doubt these guys CAN play. Vocals are on par with the studio versions, given all natural differences; impeccable drumming as well.
Some audiences rather just listen to the music instead of jumping around. Some audiences are more introvert, but still enjoy the music to a great degree. Ever though of that? There you go.
They did'nt do a proper Soundcheck? The cleanparts of the guitar are not "clean", the keyboard is not clear and the frontman had a lot of trouble to get his voice trough! The bassline is missing! I don't know, I was'nt there but I've seen them and they sounded totally different. Thats the way you mix a Punkband!
the audio is fine, I mean the problem here is the source, looks the web rib or internet video of the concert stream sucks, check this upload ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qwgsP-gETnY.html
i was pretty much up front for that show and i fucked up my voice singing along to every song. the heat nearly killed everyone aswell i'd say, including the band. fuckin awesome wacken altogether
the very first intro of chordes is from a song vest witch is awesome and the first song itself is called This Momentary bliss from the album the living infinite 2013 if i'm not mistaken
the sound is off i don't think it would be the bands fault but the person in charge of the sound. Sounds like they keep tweaking with it throughout the performance. Craptastic
