SOL Origin Survival Kit Review

You are dead on about adding water purification tabs. The bowl made from the foil will hold water, but you cannot drink it without purifying it without taking a big chance on getting sick. This kit is perfect to give to a young person to learn about survival in the outdoors. I would have felt invincible at 10 if I got this for Christmas. Thanks for showing it. SOL makes some good products.

It's a neat little pack but you can't beat you're own Survival Kit and by the way I think your videos are awesome, very knowledgeable and full of great information. You're a inspiration to preppers all over world, good wishes all the way from South Wales in the United Kingdom 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍

Without a container to hold water, purification tablets are useless.

8:37 A piece of tinfoil ... you can even make a bowl out of it ( except for that immediate tearing along the fold .... )

I think its important to put your own gear together but kits like this are great for redundancy or to grab and go for the day

All these years I thought SOL meant S... Outa Luck . Folks can obviously make their own kits , but this is a hands on functional instructional device which people can learn from and build on . I particularly love the mirror . Great review and thanks bro .

For $10 cheaper you can get the ESEE mini survival tin and get more included.

I've always like the SOL kit. Their stuff is so good.

I made a nice kit from using a travel bathroom bags that unfold into 3 sections. It was cheap and holds a lot of stuff for it's size. A fanny pack or something similar also works great to quickly grab amd go...but I recommend a tactical looking pack or your buddies may make fun of you, lmao...

How about a SSAK ‘survival situation avoidance kit’ instead? Especially for young or inexperienced people. Blister and 1st aid kit, trail marking tape, good torch, instructions on how to explore safely, not get lost, stay hydrated etc.

I make my own and it don't cost 35 bucks!

The lanyard handle is a waste. Tin foil a waste I agree add a water purifier and a space blanket for shelter or warmth.A grim wallet card would be good to add.I would hope the survivor was smart enuf to have a water bottle or canteen when they went hiking etc.That covers the 4 survival aspects. Besides a couple purification tablets you mentioned, you can also add a survival mylar blanket and a Fresnel lens.

I love your videos! They are so informative. I love this SOL Kit. I was able to add rite in the rain paper behind the info page. I also added the water purification tablets and a few medications . It holds more than it looks. Great video! Love your hard work!

I do think you should make your own survival kits but these types of kits are a great way to start building your own kit, just add or remove what ever you like or don’t like, I bought one of these cheap ones on amazon just for the case, everything else that came with it I just have around the house as extra tools if I ever need them

These kits went on sale on Midway for $14.99 and for that price an amazing kit. I got a bunch for gifts and kits. Good to throw in a cars and forget about, just so it's always there even if you keep a more serious pack in there (I have the habit of taking them out and forgetting to put them back.)

Another fun video SOL makes a few small kits with vinyl bags instead of plastic They also make items to add to your own kit, such as bivies, ponchos et cetera

Not a bad starter kit. It covers enough with information for the novice out doors type. You can do a lot with a simple knife and fire starter. 😎👍

You can also use the tin foil to make a makeshift pot

I brought this kit for hiking and I truly love it its perfect for keeping in your pocket gust in case something happens

I can see this being a good stocking stuffer. To me, it be the minimalist type of kit, but it be good for short outings and if something does happen, at least you have a little something to help get you by.

Thanks for all you do in your no-nonsense videos to help us to prepare for hard times, as the hard times are already coming to Australia where I live.Still getting a few packs together (minus the guns), our traitorous leaders disarmed us years ago because one or 2 of their patsies staged False Flag attacks (like is happening in the U.S.). Please never give up your ability to defend yourself. I didn't have the guts to go against the $20,000 fine & 10 years jail, or both that the traitors promised us.

I like to carry 30 to 50 ft number 95 paracord still plenty strong for a Ridgeline...2 s o l emergency mylar blankets XL extra large one for a tarp shelter and one to wrap up in... A lightweight but large trash bag to make a bro's bed.. and thin cheap lightweight Walmart poncho

I'm not going to lie this tickle my fancy cause I just love me a gadget.

SOL: Survivor Out of Luck

I have a few of SOL products in my Jeep day kit. A escape bivvy, 2 person survival blanket and emergency shelter kit.

I would give up the foil, add 1/4 in on the case and add SOL lightest emergency blanket, 1 standing water bag and enough tablets for three days of purification for water needs of a 250 lb individual. Voila!

Always build your own kit..don't buy those overpriced survival kits/battle boxes...this SOL kit and few other things to go with it then your good to go

By 5m 42s into the video I couldn't stand hearing the narrator mindlessly repeating "small little" any longer! He just kept on repeating it as though it was a credible and appropriate thing to say. Perhaps consider reviewing your video prior to broadcast and removing such mindless nonsense, or, even better, don't say it in the first instance...

Way overpriced

So this is another useless pre-build survival kit. If you want to have a really good survival kit, you must built it yourself.

That is a nice kit, but I have some which is better and have more included in the kits. That one is good to have in your pocket to compliment the kit you already have in your backpack or EDC bag. I love that knife with the whistle, and compass on it.

I dont think it will be that helpful.still knowledge is what you need to survive.a knife,fire stater rod and a flashlight is i think enough to survive with proper training and survival knowledge..

I like this kit. Definitely supplement with other items, but a nice, basic kit!

Add Morse code printed and covered with water proofing. And yes add water purification and space blanket.

Would be great for a survival supplement kit in a daypack.

I would use a paracord lanyard on this product.

What a piece of junk...a person wouldn't be able to survive in there back yard with this kit....like David hannum once said....there is a sucker born every minute.....

I think a good gift to get someone who does not think about survival to get started on their own kit or as a good back up kit because so small and easy to carry.

I do also make my own out of an old altoids container

Question: if you´d take two knives with you 1) a big, sturdy one for heavy-duty tasks including, chopping, batoning, or maybe even prying etc. 2) one for finer work such as pealing, skinning, carving, eating etc. How would the smaller knife look like?

You are my favorite prepper...and your wife! The first three videos viewed were : 'uses for chap stick', 'uses for nail polish' , 'uses for tampons'...great, I had everything I needed to survive in my cometic bag...of course not, but these down to earth 'how to's' with everyrday items, easily stored, are the best defense...except for your gun.

$35! I’d but that knife for a dollar or two though.

Not a bad kit but way over priced. As far as a ready made kit goes, there are better ones out there for price without compromised quality. Plus this one seems to have limited space to add your own items. There's also no substitute for making your own kit. I tend to find most of the sol survival gear to be over priced except for the sol bivvys as they are actually very effective and worth every penny (I have the sol escape and have used it plenty of times).

No to undo anyone in here but, my Survival Kit contains the following a bottle of Holy Water, a Cross and two lbs of Garlic cloves that's it folks.

When you folded the knife away you could see that there's room for about another inch of blade, wonder why they chose to make it so small?

Problem I see is your water proof test just killed the flint in your striker. Once flint is wet its useless. Fire starting apparatus should be inside.

Maybe an orange para cord lanyard? and an orange ranger band on the outside holding the lighter and compass in place?

Simple backup kit but I carry the Wazoo kits, much smaller footprint.

There is nothing in that kit that I would not want to have in an emergency. Good product.

I would classify it as a 13 year old’s survival kit or someone who is not and to survival kit but does like the outdoors
