Love it ! Ive had a similar dream. But I opted not to go recumbant. I didnt feel comfortable being that low to the ground on busy roads. But all in all this is really cool. Cheers!
hanoverview I think it would be difficult to find another boost one like it. unless maybe you charge you lipos in parallel rather than series but that would be a complete pain. but you could use a standard buck MPPT controller.
Great project, I'd thought to make something similar but this would not hold up to the rough roads where I live. maybe an off-road version with some suspension and motorcycle tires? Glad I found your channel!! Thanks for the contact!
You know how to enjoy yourself lol. With how much you play around with electronics I can totally see you covering that bike with pv cells. With the mttp boost controller it won't matter how much voltage you throw at it so why not? It wouldn't be a thing. I got some good laughs in definitely worth a like and subscribe. Thanks!

I'm thinking about building a solar trike with overhead panels but i want to try to fit 'thin film' panels which work much better in any less than perfect conditions. WOuld you consider such panels? Have you ever thought about it?
@@hanoverview I think the trick is to try to find the Amorphous solar panels that are best for the job. It's not easy to find them and most of them have been designed for high voltage housing and industrial solar applications.
Have a look at GVB-8-WP (BOOST) | 105-350W WATERPROOF SOLAR BOOST CHARGE CONTROLLER WITH Mppt. It should fix the slow start up and clouds issue for you.

You need to get yourself a BMS! :) They are not too expensive from china these days. What kind of consumption do you have while running and how fast do you go? Very interesting project, i bet it could be fun to bring on a tour of europe :)
for now i dont need one i can check the balance and my lipo warners check every cell . if they get out of balance i can fix that . on flat good ground i drive around 18 to 25 kmh using around 100-140w . a longer tour is in planing but for now there are still some errors in the design once i fix them i am good to go
True, you can always check them manually, personally i would put in a bms just to have one less thing to worry about/spend time on :) 140W is really good! I guess that means that the panel would deliver more than you consume in perfect weather?
I found out something strange . i can read out what kind of power the motor uses so i can drive without batterys and i get full power after a dropout instantly even when the charger is not showing it. so far i am happy with them !
lets say the sun is shining .. i got 200W total power if i ONLY use the sun . a good stron taser runs on 8w . 200/8= 25 . i can make a fence out of 25 taserguns and run them the whole day :)
Nice job. Watch on utube - Light Rider operation Paul Revere. Switch the 6-50watt glass panels to 6-18watt flex panels. I used mine to boil 2litres of water, cook food etc. Traveled across Canada, transversed the Rockies 3xs. Mobile Solar is the future.
Wow. I did some research while back ago with solar panel provider. The efficiency of these solar panel are low. The amount of solar panel + extra stuff weight it carry will already eat up what it can provide. Is it true?
the panel can give me up to 230W i need about 140W to move the bike with me on it . yes that panel is big :) keep in mind you dont ride all day whenever you go downhill or take a brake the bike keeps charging :)

hanoverview ok dann tue es doch unter die Fahrerkabine oder in eine Art Büchse mit Isolation, dort könntest du dann während der fahrt gucken wieviel Strom du machst und so ein besseren Ort zum laden finden

Wir, zwei Kumpels aus München, basteln uns seit zwei Monaten auch jeweils sowas zusammen, (Radreise die Donau entlang zum schwarzen Meer). Allerdings ein Liegerad und ein unverschämt hohes siebziger NormalRad je mit Solaranhänger. Ich, Uwe, würde gern mal mit dir schnacken drüber. Deine Verkabelung - alle Achtung - hat mich etwas verwirrt, da ich, wie so viele, eher der Mechaniker bin. Ich hab mich übrigens für einen ähnlichen Lade Regler entschieden, nämlich den blauen auch aus China Land. you done it wrong, with the solar and with the front side vehicle. its a pretty project but you have little imagination and creativity. you need to thinl more about using the materials and invest little bit more money than just playing with a trailer. you need to work bu aluminium roof frame with 4 panels, you will stay safe in the shadow, dont waste your time like kids
I am not dude like you and your education. I studied by myself spending half of my life in diy, creativity and energy inovations. Do not fell frustrated, but honestly your are a child. I am younger than you, but come on, there are a lot of cool materials you can use with your skills. why dont you add plexiglass with auto foil, and leatherette for some parts...white and chrome....thats reppeling the sun heating. you shouldnt be frustrated, I was telling you the true about your job.
Ok i play your game : 1.plexiglas itself wont block UV but plexiglas 100 will . Plexiglat 100 is 30€ per m² the stuff i used "stegplatten" will block UV but is less then 10€ per m² and it i ad car wrap fiol its easy another 13€ per m² . 2 if you throw money at a problem sure it will be better if i got spare money i can make everything out of carbon . but this trailer works , is cheap , and can be repaired .

Sure this is a project that can be improved upon but it's still very impressive and successful for the amount he's invested. I'm about to start my own version in fact and this is one of many vids I find inspiring.
